Jon Gruden reveals the real reason Dallas Cowboys defense collapsed after Dan Quinn left

Jon Gruden reveals the real reason Dallas Cowboys defense collapsed after Dan Quinn left (Image Via X) The Dallas Cowboys are known for big plays and strong defense, but something changed last season. As the 2025 NFL season gets closer, fans are still asking what went wrong. One big name from the league has shared a surprising take, and it points to a deeper issue than just lost games or injured players. Jon Gruden says Micah Parsons cannot lead Dallas Cowboys defense alone In a recent interview, former NFL head coach Jon Gruden shared his thoughts on the Dallas Cowboys defense. He said that without Dan Quinn, the team lost its identity. Quinn, who coached the defense until early 2024, helped create a strong and disciplined group. Since his departure, Gruden believes that structure is gone. Gruden made it clear: 'I don't think their defense, other than Parsons, has an identity.' He also pointed out the absence of veteran DeMarcus Lawrence and the injury of linebacker DeMarvion Overshown. With both players missing, leadership and energy are lacking. The Cowboys finished the 2024 season ranked 28th in overall defense, a shocking drop for a team that once dominated. Now, Micah Parsons remains the team's top defensive star. But as Gruden noted, one player can't carry the entire unit. Parsons is talented, but leadership needs to come from more than one voice. Brian Schottenheimer and Matt Eberflus face pressure to fix the Cowboys defense After Mike McCarthy was fired as head coach, the Cowboys hired Brian Schottenheimer to take over. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giá vàng đang tăng mạnh trong năm 2025 — Các nhà giao dịch thông minh đã tham gia IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Matt Eberflus stepped in as the new defensive coordinator. As training camp starts, all eyes are on Schottenheimer and Eberflus. Can they create a new identity for the Dallas Cowboys defense in 2025? Or will the team fall into another season of confusion? Pat McAfee a fan of Dolphins' Darren Waller addition

The Miami Dolphins traded for former Pro Bowl tight end Darren Waller. The 32-year-old didn't play football last season and is coming out of retirement to join the Dolphins. But, Waller has played exceptional football throughout his NFL career. Advertisement Waller's best two seasons both came with the Raiders in 2019 and in 2020. The Georgia Tech alum caught 90 passes for 1,145 yards and three scores in 2019 and then notched 107 catches for 1,196 yards and nine touchdowns in 2020. It was in 2020 when Waller earned his lone Pro Bowl nod. Miami's move for Waller came swiftly on the heels of the franchise dealing away tight end Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers. As the news of the Dolphins dealing for Waller made the rounds, ESPN's Pat McAfee praised the move by Miami. "On the football field, when he was with Las Vegas and I believe before that, (Jon) Gruden pulled him up off of the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad. Jon Gruden, whenever the Raiders were taking on the Baltimore Ravens saw Darren Waller doing a workout pregame because he was on the practice squad and he said, 'What is that? I would like that.' Advertisement "Darren Waller would then become a Pro Bowler, All-Pro with the Raiders. Obviously, immensely athletic, incredibly talented. We've seen his life off the field a lot. We know a lot about Darren Waller. But, if (Mike) McDaniel can get the most out of Darren Waller, I think that type of offense suits well for Darren personally. Now, is he all the way back to being a guy? We shall see," McAfee said. This article originally appeared on Dolphins Wire: Pat McAfee a fan of Dolphins' Darren Waller addition

NFL Network's annual America's Game marathon continues to skip Jon Gruden, Rich Dalrymple episodes

The ice has thawed between the Buccaneers and former coach Jon Gruden, who is back in the team's Ring of Honor. The ice remains solid between the league and Gruden. On America's birthday, NFL Network televises a marathon of the America's Game series. Each episode consists of a one-hour look at every Super Bowl champion — starting with the 1966 Packers and culminating with the 2023 Chiefs. (The newest episode, focusing on the 2024 Eagles, has yet to be released.) As noted by Tyler Dunne of the 58-volume library includes only 56. Two are omitted — and they have been, dating back to 2022. Still gone is the episode devoted to the 2002 Buccaneers (featuring Gruden). He was forced to resign as coach of the Raiders during the 2021 season after emails he'd sent years earlier were leaked from the files of an investigation into the Washington franchise. He has a lawsuit still pending against the league and Commissioner Roger Goodell. Also omitted is the 1995 Cowboys edition, which is narrated by former P.R. chief Rich Dalrymple. He resigned abruptly in 2022. Not long after he made his exit, he was linked to not one but two incidents of alleged voyeurism. Allegations that he secretly recorded the Cowboys' cheerleaders in their locker room reportedly resulted in a $2.4 million settlement. Tune in next year, to see if the 2002 Bucs and 1995 'Boys get left out. Until then, you can watch the Gruden episode here, and the Dalrymple one here.

Jon Gruden Sends Strong Arch Manning Message at Manning Passing Academy

Jon Gruden Sends Strong Arch Manning Message at Manning Passing Academy originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Every summer for nearly 30 years, some of the best coaches and players from across all levels have gathered for the iconic Massing Passing Academy. Advertisement Led by Archie, Peyton, Eli, and Cooper Manning, the camp is designed to go over fundamentals for younger players in grades 8-12 at positions such as wide receiver, running back, tight end and of course, quarterback. One of the best aspects of the camp is that some of the top quarterbacks in college football attend the camp as counselors to help spread their knowledge. Among the more notable counselors in attendance is someone who has grown up around this camp, Texas quarterback Arch Manning. The biggest name in college football, despite having just two career starts, is the grandson of Archie and nephew of Peyton and Eli. With three-year starter Quinn Ewers off to the NFL, Manning has been tabbed as the guy in Austin. While expectations are sky high for him, seemingly everyone who encounters Manning expects him to do great. The latest example of this is former Super Bowl-winning head coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jon Gruden. Advertisement The former coach-turned-content creator took to social media to express his high expectations for Manning. "The future in Austin, Texas it's Arch Manning," Gruden wrote. "What an awesome kid with a bright future ahead of him, let's go ARCH!" This past season saw the youngest Manning throw for 939 yards and nine touchdowns, while also racking up 108 yards rushing with four touchdowns on the ground. Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Wachter-Imagn Images The Manning era will begin in Columbus, Ohio, as Texas will be taking on the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes, who ended the Longhorns' season in the College Football Playoff Semifinal. The game is set to take place on Aug. 30, and will air on FS1's Big Noon Kickoff.
