Hun Sen calls Thaksin out, reveals historic role in Thai politics
Mr Hun Sen said he is not interested in speaking with former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, after the latter told Thai media that he has stopped communicating with the former Cambodia prime minister. 'I want to tell Thaksin that it should be me who should not want to talk to you, ever since your daughter was arrogant and looked down on me. Moreover, I have no interest in speaking with someone who has been convicted and is preparing to face additional charges. So, do not think too highly of yourself – talking to you only brings me trouble!' Mr Hun Sen wrote in a Facebook post on July 20. On July 19, Thaksin declared that he was determined to stop communicating with Mr Hun Sen, citing fears of his conversations being secretly recorded. He also urged the Thai authorities to complain to the UN regarding a landmine explosion that injured Thai soldiers earlier that week, according to Thai media outlet Khaosod English. 'From my observation, since Thaksin became involved in Thai politics, Thailand has been in great turmoil, starting before the 2006 coup. I also do not want to bring up the severe insults you directed at the Thai monarchy – those words were too vile for me to repeat, as they would only tarnish the dignity of the Thai King. But you acknowledge that they are true,' Mr Hun Sen added. He added that a few days ago, Thaksin called Cambodia's leader immoral, an insult as grave as the one made by his daughter, Ms Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who referred to the Cambodian leadership as 'unprofessional', sparking anger among the Cambodian public. 'I want to ask you, if I lack morality, why did you rely on me for 19 years, from 2006 to 2025, constantly listening to my advice and even calling me 'Leader Number One'? Do you remember the formation of the Pheu Thai Party to contest the 2011 elections? Apart from some ideas, there was a theory: 'Thaksin thinks, Pheu Thai acts.' That was my theory, Hun Sen's theory, which I shouldn't have to remind you of,' he added. He also revealed that Thaksin was the mastermind behind the Pheu Thai Party and that the betrayal of the Bhumjaithai Party was Thaksin's idea, not that of his daughter, who is currently suspended from her role as Thai Prime Minister. Police slam Brit 'drug mule' teen's claims as 'baseless' with fresh CCTV
Bella Culley claimed during a pre-trial hearing that she was forced to smuggle drugs out of Thailand and that 'nobody paid attention' when she asked for help at Bangkok airport Police in Thailand have criticised the claims made by a British teenager accused of smuggling drugs out of the country as "baseless", as new CCTV images of her at the airport emerged. Bella Culley is currently detained in Georgia for alleged drug trafficking and faces a potential sentence of 20 years or life imprisonment if found guilty. The 19-year-old, from Billingham, County Durham, sobbed in court last week as she claimed she was "forced by torture" to smuggle drugs out of Thailand. She was arrested at Tblisi International Airport on May 10 after being caught with 30 pounds of marijuana and hashish in her luggage. She said during her pre-trial hearing at a Tbilisi City court: "I didn't want to do this. I was forced by torture. I just wanted to travel. I study at the university… to become a nurse. "All I wanted to do was to travel and this happened to me. I'm clean - I had nothing in my blood test. I wanted to make my family proud. Thanks for listening." She also added "nobody paid attention" when she tried to ask for help from Thai customs officers at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok. But Thai authorities have hit back at Culley's claims, as they say CCTV images from the airport shows her calmly passing through airport checks without showing unusual behaviour. Police Lieutenant General Choengron Rimpadee said "there is absolutely no factual basis to her claims" while presenting airport CCTV footage showing Culley walking normally through passport control at the Thai airport. He added: "There is no evidence whatsoever that any immigration or police officers forced or threatened the suspect to smuggle drugs out of the country." According to Khaosod English, Thai immigration records say the suspect departed from Thailand at 7am local time on May 10. Culley will now be registered as a "prohibited person" by authorities in Thailand, it has been reported. The British student is now awaiting her fate at the notorious Women's Penitentiary Number Five in Georgia, close to the Russian border. It's understood that Culley, who is pregnant, is sharing a cell with two other inmates in the "hellhole" jail known for its cramped and dirty conditions. The teen has claimed she's had no medical care in jail, despite her pregnancy. Her lawyer Mariam Kublashvili said back in May: "She is pregnant and needs medical care which she complained she wasn't getting – there were no tests or checks or medical examinations done, she told me. She said she asked for a doctor, but the doctor wasn't speaking English and they couldn't understand each other." Campaigners and lawyers are now warning that Culley's apparent lack of medical care could "raise serious human rights concerns." Describing reports of her being denied medical care as "extremely worrying", Adam Jones, from law firm HD Claims, told the Mirror: "Even while incarcerated, individuals have the right to basic healthcare, and pregnancy care falls firmly within that. Georgia is a signatory to multiple international conventions, including the European Convention on Human Rights and the UN's Convention Against Torture. "These establish a minimum standard of care, especially for vulnerable individuals such as pregnant women. Day-to-day, Bella should be receiving routine antenatal check-ups, access to qualified medical professionals, proper nutrition, and immediate care in the event of complications. Denial of such care may breach Article 3 of the ECHR, which prohibits inhuman or degrading treatment."

Boy, 8, found being raised by dogs and can only communicate by barking
An eight-year-old boy was found barking like a dog after allegedly being left to live among them in a filthy hut in northern Thailand. The child, who has not been named, was discovered at a run-down shack during a welfare check on Monday, according to local media. Authorities found him living with his mother, 46, and brother, 23, in Lap Lae District, Uttaradit Province. He was allegedly neglected and isolated from human interaction for years. He then turned to his six pet dogs instead and began to mimic their behaviour by crawling on all fours and communicating in barks. The child was discovered after Sophon Seehaamphai, director of the school the boy once attended, alerted that he had not returned for two years, The Thaiger reported. The school informed child rights activisit, Paveena Hongsakul of the Foundation for Children and Women, who escalated the case to local police. Social workers and police officers then visited the dilapidated house on June 30 and found the child living in squalid conditions. His mother and brother were charged with drug consumption after testing positive for illegal substances. Authorities placed the boy under protective care at a local children's home. Paveena Hongsakul said the boy 'didn't speak, he just barked', adding: 'It was pitiful to see.' The English-language Bangkok-based news website Khaosod English reported the boy never attended school but once visited with his mother to collect a government support grant that was meant to be spent on his education. 'After getting the money, she simply kept him at home,' Paveena said, as reported by the South China Morning Post. Neighbours claimed the mother regularly begged for money and food from local temples. Families in the area reportedly prevented their children from interacting with the boy because of his mother's behaviour. Paveena has helped to coordinate the child's education in the future and her foundation will continue to monitor his progress alongside the Social Development and Education ministries in Thailand. She said: 'The boy will be given a chance at a good life. We'll follow up with him to make sure he gets everything he needs.' More Trending The disturbing reports come after two children who were unable to speak were found living in the woods in Italy. Rayan, six, and Noha, nine, were 'filthy' and wearing nappies when discovered by military officers near Lauriano, outside Turn, in April. Their parents never registered the children with health officials or a school and claimed to be home-educating them, despite that they could not read of write. The father, 54, told the Italian newspaper Corriere Torino that he and his wife, 38, brought the children to a remote farmhouse to 'protect them' from the coronavirus pandemic.
