Jurgen Klopp admits his true feelings on Arne Slot being successful at Liverpool
Arne Slot took on the daunting task of succeeding Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool and quickly silenced any doubters, winning the Premier League title in his first campaign Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he briefly wondered if he was actually happy watching Arne Slot take his Liverpool team and turn them into title winners. Slot, 46, has already lifted as many Premier League trophies in one season as Klopp did during his entire eight-and-a-half-year tenure, exceeding all expectations in his first 12 months at Anfield. The Reds were far from title favourites coming into the campaign but Slot's side barely put a foot wrong in the top flight to win the league at a canter. Klopp left a squad packed full of talent and experience for the Dutchman to inherit, having arrived Feyenoord with the daunting task of succeeding one of the biggest names in world football at one of its most successful clubs. There's still a long way to go for Slot to match Klopp's trophy haul and longevity, with the German considered one of the Reds' all-time greatest managers after leaving in May 2024. But there are already echoes of when Bob Paisley successfully took the reins from Bill Shankly, who built the foundations for Liverpool's golden era half a century ago. But how did Klopp feel watching Slot get off to a lightning-fast start with a team who'd finished third the previous season? "To be honest: when things started off so well under him, I briefly asked myself as a person whether I was happy that things were like this," the ex-Reds boss revealed to German newspaper Welt. "Yes, it's really good - it makes me happy." Klopp enjoys a good relationship with those at Liverpool, recently returning for an LFC Foundation event. "We're in very good contact - with some of the players who write now and then or send the occasional photo from their holidays," the 54-year-old continued. "The owners have become good friends. I've also written to Arne now and then; we've only seen each other once. He was pleased with my gesture back then." "I was recently back in Liverpool in my role as ambassador for the LFC Foundation, and it was nice to see everyone again. But I'm glad I don't have to be there every day anymore. My time in Liverpool was wonderful, but it's over. A colourful bouquet of memories - and 99 percent of them are good." Will Arne Slot eclipse Jurgen Klopp's legacy at Liverpool? Give us your prediction in the comments section. Klopp now works as Red Bull 's head of global football, overseeing the development of players and coaches at their stable of clubs. The German doesn't miss being on the touchline, affirming: "Red Bull didn't bring me in as a potential coach. "I'm supposed to pass on the experience I've gained as a head coach and manager, and I'm supposed to help younger colleagues develop. "We want to hire coaches for the right reasons and, if necessary, part ways with them for the right reasons. And for me, it's all about sporting development and not how it's perceived by the public. Jurgen Klopp sends 12-word message to Liverpool after watching Virgil van Dijk's trophy lift
Liverpool legend Jurgen Klopp was inside Anfield for the first time since leaving the club at the end of last season to watch his old players lift the Premier League trophy. The Reds were held to a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace with Ismaila Sarr and Mohamed Salah on the scoresheet. But that was far from the story of the day: it was all about Virgil van Dijk getting his hands on the silverware at last. Klopp had been invited back by Arne Slot already this season but he opted to wait until the title was secured. In town for the LFC Foundation gala and then the trophy parade, he took in the game in the middle. READ MORE: Arne Slot makes Liverpool summer promise and outlines transfer plan - 'Always have to try' READ MORE: 'I saw Anfield come alive in an instant as Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot's Liverpool wish comes true' The German posted a message on social media after the match. "Congratulations. Champions. What a team. What a club. What a season. YNWA!" he wrote on Instagram. Van Dijk, as captain, was the man who got to lift the trophy above his head, having been handed it by Reds legend Alan Hansen. Jordan Henderson, skipper under Klopp, did it in 2020, but that was when no one was in the ground to witness it. Klopp had asked fans not to boo the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold before the game and his wish was granted. The Liverpool number 66 was loudly clapped and was in floods of tears at the final whistle. "I didn't know what to expect stepping out at Anfield today after what happened a few weeks ago but I wanted to play for the club one more time," Alexander-Arnold told Sky Sports. "I said that to the manager and he trusted me to go in at half-time. "To get the reception that I got means more than anything to me. I've played hundreds of games for the club but I've never felt more loved and more cared for than today. "From the bottom of my heart, I hope that one day, the fans and supporters of this club are able to recognize the hard work and everything that I've done for the team. "There wasn't a day, a minute or a second that I didn't think about the team, from six years old to 26 years old. "Twenty years is a very, very long time, but I've loved every single minute of it. The ups and the downs, coming through the academy to the first team, and then being part of the first team properly. It's been an honor and a privilege for me to be part of this club." While it has not been confirmed yet, Alexander-Arnold will be joining Real Madrid. There, he will link up with the former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso. Klopp, meanwhile, has been linked with the AS Roma job recently. However, the German has definitively ruled out such a move. He is happy in his current role with the Red Bull group.

Jurgen Klopp criticises Liverpool fans for booing Trent Alexander-Arnold
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp criticised the club's fans for booing Trent Alexander-Arnold after admitting he had never been so disappointed in their actions. The German, who is beloved on Merseyside after winning the Champions League, Premier League, FA and League Cups in a nine-year spell which ended last summer, said he switched off the television when he heard the jeers. Unlike his successor Arne Slot, who said it was not his place to tell supporters how to react, Klopp did not hold back in his contempt for their behaviour. 'I don't want to tell anyone what they should think, I don't want to say what you have to think but I can tell you what you think is wrong. I am an old man and I don't waste time with hiding my opinion,' said Klopp, who was guest of honour at the LFC Foundation – of which he is an ambassador – Gala Ball. 'I watched the game when he came on and I heard the booing. I'm old so it my be my hearing so I turned up the volume and said 'That's booing'. 'I needed another 10 seconds to realise and then I switched the telly off. I honestly could not have been more disappointed in this moment. This is not us, 100 per cent. 'I don't tell you you should not be disappointed or angry, I tell you 'Don't forget'. This club does not forget. We are famous for not forgetting. 'We don't forget anything: we don't forget the good thing and we don't forget the bad thing. But we ignore the bad things and remember the good things. 'You don't have to be happy he is going but don't forget what he did for this club because I can't forget it.' Klopp listed a whole number of occasions in which Alexander-Arnold had delivered for the club and stressed without his contribution they would not have had the success they did. The England international has decided to bring an end his 20-year association with the club when his current deal expires in the summer and is expected to sign for Real Madrid. Klopp said that he was well within his rights to do that and if anyone had the right to be angry it was owners Fenway Sports Group as it was their multi-million asset who was leaving on a free transfer. 'I was there every day – if he wouldn't have given everything, I would tell you now but every day he gave absolutely everything for this club and now, after 20 years, he has decided he wants to go somewhere else,' added the German, who said he had contemplated attending Sunday's final match of the season in an Alexander-Arnold shirt but did not want to detract from the Premier League trophy presentation. 'If someone should be angry it should be the owners – but they are not. 'Why didn't he sign a new contract?'. I hear this from fans, this money discussion: 'He goes without a transfer fee'. 'They (the owners) have to be angry. Not us but it is not about that. He gave absolutely everything and wears the Liverpool badge in the skin. 'This boy, 18 years old, scored a free-kick in Hoffenheim where if he doesn't score that we don't qualify for the Champions League. 'Against Barcelona he did the most cheeky thing in the world and set up the goal for 4-0, a result and a game which will not happen again. 'But now he plays next year for another club and we decide how we deal with that.'

Klopp's incredible £84k gesture as ex-Liverpool boss slams 'bulls***' claim
Ex-Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has returned as the Reds prepare to lift the Premier League trophy for the second time with a heart-warming move from the German having been confirmed Jurgen Klopp donated an incredible £84,000 to Liverpool to mark his return to the club. The former boss has returned to Merseyside this weekend ahead of the Reds' Premier League title celebrations. Liverpool will lift the trophy this weekend after their final match of the season against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace. Klopp had promised to be in attendance but has also had a number of other duties to fulfil over the past few days. Klopp also attended the LFC Foundation's Gala Ball at Liverpool Cathedral on Friday having been named an ambassador of the charity. And Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan announced that the former boss donated a huge €100,000 (£84k) to help the charity's work in the community. Attention will now turn to Liverpool's celebrations, with Klopp determined to make the most of it. Speaking in a video shared on the club's social media channels, he said: 'Hello. So now I'm back, back in Liverpool. 'Back here in the wonderful cathedral for the Liverpool Foundation. Finally. Too me a year to find a way back. But, now I'm here. What a weekend ahead. Wow. 'I heard the city will be buzzing. I'm pretty sure it will be and I see it from a different perspective. From a very good perspective. From your perspective. I told you on my last day from now on, I will be one of you. 'Yeah, okay, maybe standing in a black suit is maybe not the best example but at the weekend, I'll try to be in as much as you let me. I'll try to be part of it as much as you let me. So congratulations for last season. 'Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. I enjoyed it so much. Congratulations to the team. Congratulations to Arne especially. What a guy and what a coach and let's have the best weekend of our lives so far because there are loads of great weekends will follow with this wonderful team and this great club. All the best.' Klopp's donation comes amid questions over his future. He has been linked with a move to Italian side Roma to replace the outgoing Claudio Ranieri. But speaking at the LFC Foundation gala, he rejected that speculation out of hand. He said: 'I'm not going to Roma. If you read any rumours about me taking a coaching job in the next few years it's b*******. You can be the first to say it.'
