Celtic's two transfer priorities after Brendan Rodgers message as Munteanu and winger await 'concrete' bid

The shopping spree could finally be about to jolt into life after the pre-season drubbing by Ajax Brendan Rodgers believes Celtic must show ambition in the transfer market in the wake of the pre-season humbling from Ajax. ‌ And with the Premiership season and Champions League qualifiers fast approaching for the Hoops boss, two deals appear to be rocketing up the transfer shortlist. ‌ It has been a relatively quiet window for the Scottish champions so far with Kieran Tierney and Benji Nygren two players who look set to make their mark on the first-team. ‌ Recruits Shin Yamada, Callum Osmand, Hayato Inamura and Ross Doohan may find their opportunities harder to come by this term - and Andy Walker reckons that a new frontman and winger must shoot to the top of the Celtic shopping list. He told the Go Radio Football Show: 'I think need a new striker and I think they need someone in the wide area given Jota is going to be out for so long. "In an ideal world, you would get them in as early as possible to give the player, the manager and the coaching staff the chance to get it all right from the word go in the league and the qualifier. They must be ready for that.' As the Scottish champions search for a new frontman to rival Adam Idah, the door to sign Louis Munteanu remains open. The Romania international has been thrown into a bizarre situation by Cluj amid claims that a £10.5million bid from Stade Rennes had been accepted - while a Celtic bid had been knocked back. ‌ But club president Cristi Balaj has stepped in to clarify the striker's future, telling Fanatik: "There is nothing concrete at the moment, discussions are ongoing. "As long as we have nothing concrete, there is no point in developing the subject. "There are chances he might leave, of course. Anything can happen in football. ‌ "He is a sought-after player, and clubs looking for a player of his caliber bring him in even in the middle of the transfer period, it's not a problem. "The important thing is that Louis Munteanu is healthy, preparing very well, and fully focused on everything we need to do." Reports have also suggested Celtic have seen a £1.5million bid for Go Ahead Eagles winger Jakob Breum turned down - but CEO Jan Willem van Dop has revealed the club are still awaiting an offer. He told De Oosttribune: "There's no concrete offer for him yet. There was some interest from FC Twente last winter. "That didn't happen. I think he could still leave, but then a hefty sum will have to be paid."

Louis Munteanu transfer cover broken as Celtic told Balikwisha's private feelings amid 'ridiculous' left back offer

Cluj boss Dan Petrescu has branded Louis Munteanu "irreplaceable" following reports of a £6.9million bid from Celtic The Scottish Premiership champions are keen to sign a striker despite the incoming arrivals of Shin Yamada - but Brendan Rodgers' declared the club would like to add even more firepower. The Hoops have lost both Nicolas Kuhn to Como and Kyogo Furuhashi in the last six months - and Rodgers insists he needs to replaced the goals that have been lost since January. READ MORE: Kasper Schmeichel tells Celtic fans what he's really thinking about fairytale Parkhead ending READ MORE: Benjamin Nygren blows Brendan Rodgers away as Celtic boss reveals real 'value' dwarves £2.2m transfer fee And reports in Romania claim that the the Hoops have seen an offer of just under £6.9million booted out by the Transylvania based club - with the club holding out for a £15.5million. Cluj owner Nelutu Varga told Sport Pesurse : "I have clearly said that Louis Munteanu will only leave if someone pays 18 million euros. I am not discussing anything else." And Petrescu is keen to keep the frontman who netted 25 goals last term. He said: "Louis Munteanu will be almost irreplaceable. If we get a player who scores that many goals, it means we won the lottery." Royal Antwerp wide man Michel-Ange Balikwisha is top of Celtic's list to replace the Kuhn after his move to Como Sporting director Marc Overmars has declared that he will only sell the winger for the right price - but reports suggest that a deal could be done with the Belgian outfit in dire need of a financial boost. Speaking to Off the Underside, Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph claimed that the wide man has given Celtic an "indication" he would like to join the club this summer after long-standing interest. Celtic have also been credited with an interest in Manchester United misfit Tyrell Malacia as they search for a new left-back. After Greg Taylor's departure, the boss is looking to add competition for Kieran Tierney. Celtic had shown interest in taking the Netherlands international on loan in January, Reports suggest that after United need to sell him for £3.22million to avoid a loss under the profit and sustainability rules (PSR). It is claimed the club willing to accept that lowball bid due to the lack of interest so far this summer - and former United striker Teddy Sheringham has branded the situation "ridiculous." He told Sky Bet: 'It's very easy to spend money on players, but it's hard to recoup it. 'It seems quiet, but I bet there's lots going on behind the scenes at Manchester United. Other clubs know United's position. 'They've made it known that they're looking to sell around five players, which signals to other clubs to make them ridiculous offers. 'I would assume that's what football clubs are doing around Europe, and Manchester United are turning them down at the moment. 'The longer that goes on, I reckon those offers might be a little less ridiculous, but United want these players off the books – they've made their bed and they've got to lie in it. 'They'll probably take anything from a quarter to a fifth of their asking price for some of them.'

Daizen Maeda in transfer hint amid Brentford swirl as Celtic face £6m price drop with three deals required

Brentford are reportedly among the clubs chasing Daizen Maeda this summer - but the striker has hinted his focus is on Celtic. The 27-year-old was the standout performer for the Scottish Premiership champions last season netting 33 goals as Brendan Rodgers' claimed a domestic double. That has seen the likes of Tottenham, Fenerbahce and West Ham touted with a move for the forward - and reports in Japan suggest The Bees' have joined the race. READ MORE: Louis Munteanu breaks Celtic transfer silence as striker names exactly when 'necessary' change will happen READ MORE: Louis Munteanu transfer cover broken as Celtic told Balikwisha's private feelings amid 'ridiculous' left back offer Reports in Turkey stating Jose Mourinho's men were told stump up £21million for the star by Celtic - and that valuation is unlikely to have moved since. But Maeda has already hinted this summer that he is in no rush to leave - and he has now talked up his Parkhead teammates in the latest clue he is focussed on life in Glasgow's east end. The forward told KICK OFF! KANSAI: "There is one year left until the North-Central America World Cup: I want to make connections with Japanese national team players special. "Like at Celtic, there were many scenes where I thought my teammate was coming but my timing with the passer was in sync. After three and a half years, my teammates understand me." In terms of incoming players, Red Star Belgrade defender Veljko Milosavljevic is also said to be on the agenda - with Mozzart Sport claiming that the Serbian side are ready to drop their asking price. It was claimed earlier this summer that Celtic representatives "offered" £5.1million for the 17-year-old, which was rejected. It is now stated that while Red Star hope to receive €10million (£8.6million) for the player they could sell for €7million (£6million) with interest from earlier in the window cooling. And while a new centre-back appears to be on the agenda, Gordon Strachan insists that a winger, striker and another midfielder are required by Rodgers this summer. He told OLBG: 'Celtic have had wide attackers rather than wingers. People can score goals, get in the box, make goals, rather than just a winger who can cross the ball and things like that. So I think that's where they'll be going. 'Do they need another striker? Yes I think they do. They'll be looking at that as well. They'll be looking at a midfield player similar to Reo Hatate who can eliminate people in midfield. 'In the modern game, because the defenders are good, when people get back into zonal areas or go man for man, the fact is that you need somebody to eliminate people. 'Hatate could do that and so could Matt O'Riley. Matt O'Riley has been gone a year but they still need somebody who can do that as well.' The comments come with the Hoops' on the lookout for a successor to Nicolas Kuhn - who has admitted he would love to play against his former club Celtic next week and introduce himself to Como in style. The German winger completed a £17million move to the big-spending Serie A side last week and will be an important part of Cesc Fabregas' team. One of his first matches could even be against the former club in pre-season as the Parkhead side prepare to jet into Italy for the Como Cup tournament. Celtic face Ajax and Como entertain Al Ahli and there's a chance Kuhn could face his old teammates in either the final or the third and fourth place play-off. And he would relish coming up against his former colleagues, having also played for Ajax too. He said: "I'll definitely play against one of my former teams because we will play either Celtic or Ajax. "If we could play against Celtic, I would be really excited to face all my teammates from last season. "I can't wait to play in the tournament. My beginnings at Como have gone really well. I like the Italian atmosphere and the team is fantastic, everyone is helping me settle in and I'm really happy to be here. "The training centre is fantastic, the quality is high, and so far everything has been perfect. I think we have a lot of very good players in the squad." Bizarre Louis Munteanu transfer twist after Celtic 'bid' as 'bored' Cluj star tackles £15.5m deal amid big if from boss

Brendan Rodgers is on the look out for more attacking additions this summer Irked Louis Munteanu has tackled speculation over his Cluj future amid reports in Romania about an offer from Celtic. ‌ Brendan Rodgers has admitted he is keen to add more firepower to his side this summer - and sources in Romania claim that the Hoops have seen an offer of just under £6.9million booted out by the Transylvania based club. ‌ Following the murmurs around the Scottish Premiership champions, owner Nelutu Varga declared that an unnamed club from France had an £15.5m offer accepted. ‌ He told Pro Sport: "I won't say the club, because that's how we agreed. They are professionals and they want to present him, as is normal. I think the transfer will be resolved in a few days." However, the 21-year-old now insists he is "bored" about the speculation on his future - which only intensified after he missed the league clash with Rapid Bucharest on Sunday. Speaking post-match, he said: "I'm a little behind with my preparation, but with training I hope to catch up. It's not very pleasant on the bench, but that's it, I'll do my job. "If the thought of a transfer flew into my head, I would no longer be here. The thought is not in my head." Pushed on the comments from his chairman, he went on: "I want to tell you honestly, I'm bored of so many numbers being discussed. I'm here at Cluj." ‌ Cluj boss Dan Petrescu also appeared to question if an offer was on the table, admitting he expected the frontman to be involved in the Europa League qualification clash with Lugano on Thursday. He said: "I spoke to the player, the boy's behaviour is beyond my expectations, I tell you honestly. "He's very serious, he wants to play, he doesn't think he's going to get injured. I was afraid to put him in, if he really has an offer, but he wants to play. ‌ "I want Louis Munteanu to stay, but if he has a very good offer, I wish him luck."
