I'm dodging Guinness and chillies for fear of spending all day in the Scottish Open toilet

Marcel Siem used to love a pint and a party but he's changed his ways in a bid to be a success on the golf course Marcel Siem is dodging Guinness and chillies to avoid spending all day in the Renaissance toilets. The German star has altered his lifestyle having savoured a party and a cigarette in the past. ‌ Siem says age is catching up and some of the good stuff has to go on hold for the week in East Lothian to avoid headaches and lengthy spells in the loo. ‌ He said: 'I have to look after myself more now. I turn 45 next week. I am not getting any younger. I have to look after my body more now. 'I know I can stand on the range and hit golf balls, I've done it my whole life. But it's more about recovery, sleeping well, and not drinking. 'I think those days of drinking and playing golf are over unfortunately. There is a time and place for it. It's nice to enjoy a few pints after a good result, for example. 'The problem is I'm not in training any more. Two years ago, if you have one or two beers for dinner, it's fine. But I can't do it any more. 'On Monday earlier this week, I had two pints of Guinness and felt horrible the next day. I think I am getting too old to be drinking and playing golf. 'The problem is, the Guinness is so good over here! That's always risky for me because I do love the Guinness. So I have to stick to the soft drinks. ‌ 'I am really into sparkling water or still water with squeezed lemon. A lot of salad, not too many carbs because that is dangerous at my age in terms of getting too fat. 'I do like eating carbs after a round. But, in the evening, it's only protein and water usually. In the mornings I have ginger tea with fresh lemon and honey. 'When I'm back at home, I like to make this mix of chilli, pepper and celery juice. But you have to be careful doing that at a golf tournament otherwise you will be on the toilet all day!' ‌ Siem had a tiring week on home soil last week, but is energised for Scotland and there is still a shot at making next week's Open having started with a 65. He said: 'My body has had a lot wear and tear, but everything feels good again. My hip feels great again, I had a broken toe earlier this year, which has healed up nicely as well. ‌ 'I would love to get back into The Open. After hip surgery last year and a broken toe, they kind of stopped me from qualifying earlier than now. 'If I can keep this going over four rounds, I am confident I can give myself a chance of being at Portrush. 'Playing here this week in Scotland in front of great crowds, playing in an Open next week at Portrush, this is why you play golf. It would be fantastic. 'But Ireland is famous for Guinness. I need to stay away from that stuff. Maybe it could also be difficult for me next week!'

Golf star admits to being DRUNK and throwing up on the course during PGA Tour tournament

Drinking on the golf course isn't exactly uncommon - both among amateurs and PGA Tour pros in years past. However, German golfer Marcel Siem may have had a bit too much to drink when he took part in the Pro-Am at Pebble Beach in 2015. But that hardly hindered his performance, with Siem coming just a single stroke away from breaking the course record at the iconic golf track. Siem is best known for his accomplishments on the European Tour - now the DP World Tour - where he won eight events, including the BMW Masters. But of the 35 PGA Tour events he has competed in since 2004, one of his best performances came at the 2015 Pebble Beach Pro-Am. After missing the cut at the same tournament the year prior, Siem and his caddy decided to 'change the system' and got plastered the night before. View this post on Instagram A post shared by DP World Tour (@dpworldtour) Siem stayed out until 6:00am drinking with his caddie in 2015 before teeing off at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am two hours later and carding a miraculous 63 at the legendary course Siem said that he's had 'three course records in my life, completely hammered without sleep.' That's not technically true, as he came a stroke shy of tying the record at Pebble Beach. He continued: 'Three-putted 18 to shoot... 62 [actually, 63] and I didn't even know about it.' All that came after a long night where Siem and his caddy over-indulged with a boozy combination of multiple Long Island Iced Teas, 'five pints', before 'end[ing] up with champagne, which was totally weird.' The next morning was a rough one for Siem, who had an 8:00am tee time after being on a drinking session until 6:00am. Siem admitted to being in rough shape and vomiting 'twice' that round. In spite of this, he ended up shooting a third round 63 - shooting him up the leaderboard after carding seven birdies and an eagle while never recording anything worse than par. But he said that he had fun because he was paired with surfing legend Kelly Slater. While Siem was adamant that Slater 'didn't know' how hammered he was until he told the surfer after the round, the video got Slater's attention. The surfer commented, 'Haha. You told me during the round. I think you forgot!' Slater also added a tidbit about that famous 63 round: 'He also forgot to mention he didn't make a birdie after 13 or 14 and was on 59 watch for half the round. Flopped an eagle in from deep rough on 6. From memory he was maybe 6 under through 7. A wild round.'
