NRL WAG praised for calling out mummy vlogger trend
An NRL WAG has said filming her daughters cry 'is the last thing' she would think about and expressed confusion about mums who make it 'their brand'. Tayla Montoya, who is married to Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs player Marcelo Montoya, shared her opinion on mummy vloggers after stating she is repeatedly 'fed' their content. She also shares twin daughters — Tiana and Milan — who are less than a year old with her football star husband. 'Day in the life as a new mum, come with me with my twins blah blah blah,' the radio star said on The Montoyas podcast. 'The videos that I get is where a mum would be like spend the night with me with an eight-week-old newborn. And they will document every time the baby cries and they go to settle and feed the baby.' She couldn't believe that when the baby cries some mother's first thought was 'hold on, let me set up my camera first so everyone can see'. Husband Marcelo said the world has 'lost the plot'. 'That is the last thing I would think about, especially at the newborn stage,' Tayla said. 'When Tiana and Milan weren't sleeping — they were sending me through hell — the last thing I would think is 'girls, f*****g hold that thought, let me set up on a tripod. This sh*t's gold'.' Her husband was confused, asking why people did that for. His wife simply responded that it was 'content'. 'That's their brand,' she said. Many of the couple's fans agreed in the comment section. 'I'm with your hubby! Society has completely lost the plot,' one social media user said. Another said: 'I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks about this kinda stuff when I see videos like that.' 'My thinking as well,' another social media user commented. One person said; 'Say it louder!' Mummy vloggers and family content channels have become increasingly under scrutiny when it comes to child welfare and content payment — particularly following the imprisonment of Ruby Franke. Franke, who ran the 8 Passengers channel, was arrested in August 2023 alongside her business partner Jodi Hildebrant after her 12-year-old son climbed out of the window of Hildebrant's home and ran to a neighbour's propert y. The boy was malnourished, begging for food and water, had been bound with duct tape and had open wounds. The mother-of-six pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated child abuse, sentenced to one to 15 years for each count. It prompted conversation about regulating the 'kidfluencer' and 'family vlogging' space. Currently, there are no laws in Australia that specifically govern child influencers. However, three states in the US — including California — have recently passed laws on the matter.

Footy WAG slams mummy vloggers for mistreating their own kids to get clout on social media
NRL WAG Tayla Montoya has called out mum vloggers on social media who chase followers over the needs of their own children. In an Instagram video posted on Tuesday, the wife of Bulldogs flyer Marcelo Montoya relayed what often occupies her news feed. 'I'm fed all sorts of videos featuring mum vloggers,' the mother of twin baby girls began. 'It is like a day in the life of a new mum... come see me with my baby. 'They document every time the baby cries and they go to settle the baby and then feed the baby.' Marcelo then breaks in to add, 'Society has lost it... lost the plot.' Tayla then takes centre stage - and her comments will ring true with many parents. 'You hear your baby's cries. The first thought, f**k! Hold on, little Johnny, let me set the camera up first so everyone can see I'm about to go in and pick you up. 'That would be the last thing I would think about, especially [in] newborn stages when Tiana and Milan [their daughters] weren't sleeping. 'They were sending me through hell, the last thing I would think is girls, hold that thought, let me set this up on a tripod, this s**t's gold.' When Marcelo asks why the vloggers would do that, his wife replies, 'That's content, Marc, that's their brand, that's what they want to show the world. The clip resonated with many of the couple's followers. 'Omg you guys are real and so awesome,' one posted in response. 'I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks about this stuff when I see videos like that,' offered another. 'You guys are the best! I'm a Mum of two and I honestly agree that the world has lost the plot of parents documenting their kids.' In November last year, Montoya bravely stated his wife would 'be fine' giving birth to twins - and that they were now 'even' given he has supposedly endured similar physical pain across his nine-year NRL career. Her counter said it all: 'if a male encountered that level of pain, you would collapse and die.' Meanwhile, Montoya will miss the next six matches for Canterbury after undergoing neck surgery this week. He has scored eight tries in 15 games - but has been battling referred pain from his neck to shoulder. It is anticipated the 29-year-old will return ahead of the NRL finals.

Fresh blow for Bulldogs as winger needs surgery
Marcelo Montoya will miss six weeks with a neck injury in a fresh blow to Canterbury's hopes of sealing a top-two finish on the NRL ladder. Montoya has had a mortgage on one wing spot since returning from a stint at the Warriors this year, but will go in for clean-out surgery after battling through pain in recent weeks. The third-placed Bulldogs are confident the Fijian-born 29-year-old will return in time for finals. The news is the last thing the Bulldogs needed after dropping back-to-back games to resurgent Penrith and Brisbane ahead of this weekend's away trip to Townsville. Montoya looks set to miss tough clashes against the Sydney Roosters and Warriors during his six-week lay-off as the Bulldogs fight for their first top-two finish since 2012. Highly rated internally for his impressive pre-season, Enari Tuala is a chance to join the backline after making his club debut in the Broncos loss, with Blake Wilson another option. Coach Cameron Ciraldo could choose to keep Matt Burton at centre and Lachie Galvin and Toby Sexton as his halves after making a controversial late switch for the Broncos game. But that would likely require moving either Bronson Xerri or captain Stephen Crichton to the wing. Canterbury Bulldogs face multiple NRL suspensions after first loss to Brisbane Broncos
The Canterbury Bulldogs have copped another blow after their first loss of the season, with three players facing a combined nine weeks on the sidelines due to suspensions. Brisbane ended the Bulldogs's 6-0 start to the year with a 42-18 win at a rain-soaked Lang Park on Thursday night, during which three Bulldogs were sent to the sin-bin. Winger Marcelo Montoya was binned for a high shot on Broncos back rower Brendan Piakura, but it appeared to be as much about repeated offences as the severity of the contact, and he was not cited. ABC Sport is live blogging every round of the and seasons in 2025. Broncos winger Deine Mariner was also binned late in the game for a high tackle on Viliame Kikau but escaped the match review committee's wrath. Dogs forwards Sitili Tupouniua and Josh Curran were not so lucky for their high shots, and five-eighth Matt Burton was also charged with a grade-two careless high tackle on Billy Walters. Photo shows Bronson Xerri and Jacob Preston stand on the field after the Bulldogs' loss to Brisbane. Canterbury coach Cameron Ciraldo says he is equal parts "proud" and "filthy" with his team after their perfect start to the season was undone by the Brisbane Broncos. Tupouniua was the hardest hit, cited for a shoulder charge and lifting his knees into the tackler's head, both on Piakura. The off-season recruit from the Roosters was offered three games for the shoulder charge and two weeks for the high knees with early guilty pleas, with one week added to each if he fights the charges. Curran is facing a three-week ban if he pleads guilty to a shoulder charge on Payne Haas and Burton can accept a one-game ban for his high tackle on Walters. Canterbury utility Kurt Mann told ABC Sport a number of the reported incidents were "pretty unavoidable" as players slipped over in the wet. "I guess it's the way the game is going," he said. " Some people don't really agree with it, a lot of people probably wouldn't, but that's just the way it is now. Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo was non-committal when asked if the sin-binnings were too harsh but admitted it was not an easy game to watch. "I don't know. There was so much going on tonight and no flow to the game," he said. "It was one of those games that was hard to watch to be honest. It was a ball-ache to watch for me so I am sure everyone else felt the same. "I put that down to us trying too hard. We have been pretty disciplined for long periods so we can fix it."
