Utah's Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater Enthralling Audiences with Modern Elation Lighting

LOS ANGELES, June 20, 2025 /CNW/ -- The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater, also known as The Ruth at dōTERRA, opened its doors earlier this year, and is already making a name for itself as a premier performing arts venue. A culmination of years of planning, the stunning new venue in Pleasant Grove, Utah, is equipped with modern Elation lighting technology. Smith Grand / Lindsay Legacy The theater operated for 35 years as the Hale Center Theater Orem, a small semi-professional theater-in-the-round, but moved to a new, modern space in late 2024. The new venue houses two theaters. At the heart of The Ruth is the exquisite Scott and Karen Smith Grand Theater, a 670-seat space with a proscenium thrust that has the added flexibility to be adapted to a full theater-in-round. The intimate 300-seat Lindsay Legacy Theater is designed to mimic the original intimate venue that its patrons have loved for three decades. Modern Elation lighting graces both theaters, including 40 ARTISTE MONET luminaires and 88 KL PROFILE FC fixtures, supplied by Barbizon Light of the Rockies, and 103 FUZE PENDANT COMPACT fixtures, sold by Brio Technologies. Michael Gray, head of lighting at The Ruth, specified fixture types and quantities. New Lighting System Troy Anderson, Director of Operations at The Ruth, led the technical aspects of the project, including the execution of the lighting installation. The Ruth's lighting system was designed to meet the high demands of a bustling theater that hosts performances six days a week. "We knew we needed a lighting system that could handle the complexity of our productions and provide a wide range of flexibility," Anderson says. "The ARTISTE MONET's versatility allows us to use it as a followspot, a static washlight, a moving head, or an effects light, all in the same production." The ARTISTE MONET is a multi-award-winning 45,000-lumen LED Profile luminaire. Elation's KL PROFILE FC, a full-spectrum ellipsoidal with integrated zoom, also played a critical role in the decision-making process. "The adjustable lensing and the range of features that come with the KL PROFILE were key in its choice," says Anderson. Both fixtures were earmarked for use in the Smith Grand Theater. The FUZE PENDANT COMPACT was selected as the house light for both the Grand Theater and the Lindsay Legacy Theater. The FUZE PENDANT's ability to provide full-color lighting allows the theater to immerse audiences in the world of the production from the moment they enter. "We use a lot of color in our house lighting," Anderson notes. "As patrons enter the theater, we want them to feel like they're already part of the set and the show. The tones and colors we get from the FUZE PENDANT make that possible, and they match with our other lighting fixtures. Color was a critical factor in choosing these lights." Multiple Angles In the Smith Grand Theater, catwalks and the lighting rig encircle the stage in multiple tiers, with an inner ring and outer ring of lights. Michael Gray's goal in creating his initial lighting rep plot, Anderson says, was to hit every point on stage from at least four angles. "The way we light our shows is different from a traditional proscenium setup. In theater-in-the-round, you need to light the stage from multiple angles to ensure every point is covered." A Busy Schedule The Ruth installed the Elation lights themselves, completing the setup just before Ragtime, the first play in the Smith Grand Theater, opened. The theaters maintain a packed schedule, with performances running Monday through Saturday and up to four shows staged daily. An American in Paris runs until July 19 in the Smith Grand Theater, while The Play That Goes Wrong plays in the Lindsay Legacy Theater until August 16. The Ruth and Nathan Hale Theater has quickly established itself as a premier performing arts venue. With an Elation lighting system enhancing the experience, the venue is poised to deliver top-class productions for years to come. These two men were selected as winners of Ziebart's first-ever 'Detail for Dad' contest, receiving a full Interior and Exterior Detailing package complete with Inner-Guard® Plus – a deluxe service designed to keep vehicles looking showroom-new, inside and out About the ContestLaunched in May to recognize dads who go above and beyond, Ziebart's first-ever 'Detail for Dad' contest invited participants to submit short essays explaining why their dad or father-figure deserved the ultimate car makeover. More than 200 dads were submitted for consideration, with entries celebrating fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, and even fathers nominating their own sons. Entries were evaluated on creativity, sincerity, and heart. 'Dads are often the unsung heroes who quietly give their all to their families, including their vehicles, which usually take the brunt of everyday life,' said Thomas A. Wolfe, President & Chief Executive Officer of Ziebart. 'We created this contest as a way to give back and show appreciation for the love, effort, and sacrifice these men demonstrate every day. Michael and Bob exemplify everything this contest was meant to celebrate.' Meet the WinnersNominated by his daughter Rachel, Michael Gray is a single father who stepped into both parenting roles when Rachel was just 3 years old. She describes her dad as someone who always puts his family first even if that means his own needs, and his truck, come last. Rachel writes: 'He is always putting his kids' needs first before his own. Unfortunately, that puts him last on his own list. I wanted to nominate the best Dad ever because his truck is an all-around family truck. Therefore, it is literally used for everything.' From chauffeuring their four pets to the vet, to taking kids bargain hunting, and of course, sharing life lessons wrapped in humor, Rachel says her dad has done it all from the seat of that truck, which is now set for an overdue makeover. Bob P., nominated by his daughter Paige, is a nearly 80-year-old disabled Vietnam combat veteran and a retired longtime educator with an inspiring do-it-yourself spirit, particularly when it comes to anything related to construction or car maintenance. Paige writes: 'I think my dad Bob deserves a clean car due to his ability to still do amazing things at an advanced age! … He is currently building a house for my mom and his truck is a disaster of Lowe's debris.' The winners each receive a complimentary Ziebart Interior and Exterior Detailing, complete with Inner-Guard® Plus a prize valued at $629.97, that aims to bring even the messiest 'dad mobile' back to life. Both Michael and Bob will be receiving their automotive makeovers in the coming weeks, with appointments currently being scheduled at their nearest Ziebart locations. Metal bat thug branded "Bob Marley" smashed birthday reveller's jaw in brutal attack

Michael Gray went out to seek revenge on the young man who compared him to the reggae legend. A young man out celebrating his 21st birthday was subjected to a horrific attack with a metal bat which smashed his jaw. Dreadlocked thug Michael Gray apparently took offence to being called Bob Marley and went looking for revenge several hours later. He jumped out of a car as Josh Shaw walked home from a bar with his partner and viciously attacked him with the bat, knocking him unconscious. Gray, 40, of Glenrothes, was jailed for two years when he appeared for sentencing at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court. ‌ ‌ He previously admitted that on June 22 last year at Caskieberran Road, Glenrothes, he assaulted the man, repeatedly threatened him with violence, challenged him to a fight and repeatedly struck him on the head and body with a baseball bat to his severe injury and permanent impairment. Depute fiscal Sarah Smith previously told the court that the victim was out with friends for his 21st birthday and they were initially in Pinkertons pub in Glenrothes. Gray was also there with friends and his first interchange with the victim was asking if he had put an Oasis song on the jukebox. As Gray was leaving his premises the victim said, 'See you later Bob Marley'. Gray thought it was a reference to his dreadlocks and was heard saying, 'I'm gonna cave his skull in'. The two groups were later in the Styx bar and Gray angrily warned the victim 'he was not the type of person to have a laugh with and he did not know who he was messing with', added the depute. At around 1.20am Mr Shaw and his partner left the bar and began walking home when a car pulled up next to them with Gray in the front passenger seat. Gray got out of the car holding a black metal bat, which he used to strike the victim repeatedly on the head and body. ‌ He was knocked unconscious falling to the ground with passers-by calling an ambulance but a police car arrived on the scene shortly afterwards and took him to the hospital. The victim's partner managed to video part of the incident, which included Gray making death threats and a black Vauxhall Zafira then driving off. This led to Gray being traced and arrested. Mr Shaw required surgery a few days later on his broken jaw. He had a metal plate and screws inserted to hold it together. He has lost feeling in the part of his chin which was struck and has been told this will never return. He also required stitches to a cut lip. Sheriff James Williamson previously told Gray, 'This was an outrageous, unprovoked and pre-planned assault on a young man causing him significant injury.' Gray submitted his guilty plea in February but the sentencing was delayed on various occasions for reports.

Same-sex couple's discrimination case to go before Alberta human rights tribunal

A same-sex couple says it has been a long and stressful four years, but they're hopeful as their discrimination case is set to go before an Alberta human rights tribunal. Michael Gray and Paul Hemsing allege the City of Medicine Hat discriminated against them by imposing on their home hair salon restrictions that they say other businesses didn't have to follow, along with harassment by officers responding to complaints from neighbours. The director of the Alberta Human Rights Commission initially dismissed the couple's complaint, but last week acting chief Evaristus Oshionebo referred the case to a tribunal. No date has been set. Hemsing told The Canadian Press that they want their dignity back. "We've been in this process now for four years, and we've just been awarded a tribunal," he said Monday from Saskatoon, where the couple now live. "This is quite emotional and upsetting." Oshionebo's decision says the couple ran the hair salon in Medicine Hat, southeast of Calgary, and were forced to move the business into their home during the COVID-19 pandemic. They applied for an operating permit, which imposed limits on hours of operation, how many clients they could see in a week and customer parking on the street, the decision says. Hemsing said it took months to receive a permit when it was supposed to take a week or two. When they got approval, he added, documents were sent to an address the couple hadn't lived at for 20 years. They appealed the limit on the number of clients, as it would have limited their income, Hemsing said. They won, but he said he became stressed and also came down with shingles and later COVID-19. He spent days on a ventilator in hospital. Hemsing said they sold their home and moved to Saskatoon, where they run another salon. Both men have argued the City of Medicine Hat discriminated against them based on their sexual orientation and that they were treated differently from other home-based businesses. They also allege officers harassed them by constantly attending their home in response to gripes from neighbours between December 2020 and December 2021. The complaints from their neighbours, the decision says, were allegedly based on "disapproval of same-sex marriage and that the (city) was or ought to have been aware of this." The commission's director initially dismissed the couple's complaint, saying it was "not unreasonable" for the city to follow up on the parking grievances. "It is understandable that (the couple) found contact from inspectors intrusive. However, the information does not support that the city's enforcement actions were excessive or harassing," the director said. The couple filed for a review and Oshionebo overturned the decision, allowing more evidence on the allegations to be heard. "The issue of whether the complainants' sexual orientation or marital status were a factor in the attendance of their home-based business by the respondent's officers is a genuine issue that can only be addressed in a full hearing," Oshionebo says in his decision. "The complainants have alleged some facts, which if proved by evidence, could establish a link between the alleged adverse treatment (the incessant attendance of their business) and the protected ground of sexual orientation." Lawyers for the city have denied discrimination and argue officers attended the home several times because of numerous calls about an excessive number of vehicles parking near the home salon. City spokeswoman Colleen Graham said in an email that she can't provide comment as the matter is now the subject of a tribunal. Hemsing said no one should suffer like they did. "We lost our home, we lost our business, we had to start new in a new city," he said.
