The Sports Report: Tyler Glasnow returns, but Dodgers lose again
From Jack Harris: During the Dodgers' season-long five-game losing streak this week, manager Dave Roberts cited a lack of 'fight' from his lineup as the most troubling trend in the team's recent skid. On Wednesday in Milwaukee, more fight finally returned — only for the Brewers to still land the knockout punch. In a 3-2 loss at American Family Field that extended the Dodgers' losing streak to six games, the lineup once again scuffled in a five-hit performance while closer Tanner Scott blew a ninth-inning lead to waste Tyler Glasnow's encouraging return from the injured list. It was a grind of a game, with the Dodgers scoring their only runs on a bases-loaded walk following a hit-and-run play and a sacrifice fly that briefly gave them a 2-1 lead. Alas, Scott gave up a game-tying RBI single to Andrew Vaughn in the ninth, Jackson Chourio walked it off with another single against Kirby Yates in the bottom of the 10th, sending the scuffling Dodgers their longest losing skid since April 2019. 'Knowing the rough patch [we're in], it's really hard to take this one, because you just want to stop it,' veteran infielder Miguel Rojas said. The five-star guard arrives at USC this summer as the most highly anticipated recruit of Musselman's tenure. Musselman — who coached Arenas' father, Gilbert, with the Golden State Warriors — has said on multiple occasions that he expects Arenas to be a difference-maker as a freshman. The question now is how quickly Arenas can get up to speed after missing the first month of summer practice with a team that was totally rebuilt through the transfer portal. Continue reading here From Kevin Baxter: No club in MLS history played more games during a two-year span than the 103 LAFC played the past two seasons. It was an exhausting and unrelenting slog that saw the team play a game every five days. Yet it may prove to be just a warm-up for what the team could face during the remainder of this season. Wednesday's 3-0 win over the short-handed Colorado Rapids, which snapped a four-game winless streak in all competition, was LAFC's 28th match in less than five months. If it makes long runs in both the Leagues Cup and MLS Cup playoffs, the team will play another 29 times this season, with seven of those matches coming in the next 26 days weeks. It's a tortuous schedule, especially in mid-summer. But it's also an unavoidable one. 'This schedule is what it is. We cannot change that,' said coach Steve Cherundolo, who got goals Wednesday from Denis Bouanga, Nathan Ordaz and newcomer Javairo Dilrosun. 'It's important not to waste any moments; moments meaning games you can win, moments also meaning chances in each game. So it's important to play as effective as possible. Trout hit a two-run homer in the third and added his 16th of the season in the fifth, a solo shot that gave the Angels a 6-5 lead. His fly ball out to center in the seventh advanced two runners before Taylor Ward drove in both with a single, tying the score at 8-8. Travis d'Arnaud hit his sixth home run for the Angels in the fourth inning. José Fermin (2-0), the seventh of eight Angels pitchers, worked a scoreless inning and earned the victory. Kenley Jansen picked up his 16th save. 'We're all proud on campus,' said LaCour, now the school's athletic director and former coach of Fried. 'It's kind of everyone wins if Max faces Pete,' Halpert said. Harvard-Westlake has received attention for its success sending pitchers to the majors with Fried, Lucas Giolito and Jack Flaherty, all of whom were members of the 2012 team and first-round draft picks. Yes, he took what he called a 'nasty slip' on his second match point at Wimbledon on Wednesday. Yes, he slid into the splits and ended up face-down on the Centre Court grass. And, yes, those sorts of things aren't ideal for a 38-year-old seeking an unprecedented 25th Grand Slam title. Still, Djokovic dusted himself off and took the next two points, reaching the semifinals at the All England Club for a men's-record 14th time with a 6-7 (6), 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 victory over No. 22 seed Flavio Cobolli to set up a showdown against No. 1 Jannik Sinner. 'Well, I finished the match,' Djokovic said with a chuckle. 'It did come at an awkward moment, but somehow I managed to … close it out. Obviously, I'm going to visit this subject now with my physio and hopefully all will be well in two days.' USC's Alijah Arenas should be cleared to begin practicing Thursday
After surviving a fiery car wreck and successfully skipping his final year of high school to enroll at USC, incoming star freshman Alijah Arenas should be cleared to join the team for practice on Thursday, coach Eric Musselman confirmed. USC's coach certainly isn't concerned about Arenas fitting in. Since arriving on campus, Musselman said, Arenas has made a point to follow the coach around on the court during practice. 'I think he knows the offense, on paper, maybe better than anyone on our team,' Musselman said. 'He's got an innate ability to kind of see things in a different manner. 'I would anticipate him picking it up really quick because he's come into our office. He's diagramming stuff during practice. He's talking to managers and GA's about where he should be on the floor.' It was a harrowing few months for Arenas leading up to him being cleared at USC. One early morning in late April, he lost control of his Tesla Cybertruck and hit a tree. The car burst into flames, leaving him trapped inside. He was ultimately saved by a pair of good Samaritans who happened to be nearby, but Arenas would spend six days in the hospital before returning home, miraculously, without any lasting injuries. After finishing his high school classwork so he could graduate a year early, Arenas underwent final medical testing at USC this week, Musselman said. He'll join at the halfway mark for the Trojans' summer practice session.

Former Eric Musselman players Jaylin Williams, Isaiah Joe win NBA title with OKC Thunder
On Sunday evening, the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Indiana Pacers in Game 7 of the NBA Finals to claim the championship. Unlike last year, when Drew Peterson got a ring with the Boston Celtics, no USC players were on the title-winning team this season. However, two of head coach Eric Musselman's former players did win: Jaylin Williams and Isaiah Joe. Williams (not to be confused with Thunder teammate Jalen Williams) played one season for Musselman at Arkansas in 2021-2022. He was selected by Oklahoma City in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft, and primarily serves as a bench player for the team, and played just 14 minutes during the Finals—the majority of which coming in a Game 6 blowout loss. Joe played for Musselman with the Razorbacks from 2018-2020. A second round pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2020 NBA Draft, he joined the Thunder prior to the 2022-2023 season, and has spent the past three years with the team. A key bench player for Oklahoma City, Joe saw action in five of the seven NBA Finals games. Musselman has now produced four NBA champions in the past four seasons, as Williams and Joe join Jordan Walsh with the Celtics last year and Moses Moody with the Golden State Warriors in 2022. Having had success developing players during his time at Arkansas, the head coach is looking to continue doing so with the Trojans.

USC men's basketball head coach Eric Musselman attends Dodgers game at Chavez Ravine
Eric Musselman has certainly made a name for himself as a basketball coach. That said, hoops is not the only sport he loves. Musselman is also a big baseball fan, and has attended numerous games throughout Southern California since taking the USC head coaching job. Last Tuesday, Musselman was in attendance for the Los Angeles Dodgers versus San Diego Padres game at Dodger Stadium. Prior to the game, Musselman chatted on the field with Padres manager Mike Shildt and Dodgers pitcher Blake Snell. 'Date night at Dodger Stadium,' Musselman wrote on social media, accompanied by a photo of himself and his family on the field. Musselman grew up in San Diego and attended the University of San Diego, so he grew up a Padres fan. Unfortunately for him, however, San Diego came up short in this one, as the Dodgers won 8-6. Eric Musselman witnessed one of the best matchups in Major League Baseball in 2025. Hopefully this helps him sell a vision of excellence to his 2025-2026 USC team, which will be expected to reach the NCAA Tournament and raise the bar for the Trojan hoops program.

Eric Musselman, USC hoops host Sacarmento Kings group for workout at Galen Center
During his time as the head coach of USC men's basketball, Eric Musselman has loved bringing in NBA players and coaches to Galen Center for workouts. On Tuesday, Musselman welcomed a contingent from the Sacramento Kings: DeMar DeRozan, Zach Levine, Mason Jones and head coach Doug Christie. "Awesome having @DeMar_DeRozan, @ZachLaVine, @TheDougChristie, and @masonjones2 at the Galen Center this morning," USC's head coach wrote on social media. DeRozan, of course, is quite familiar with Galen Center, having played for the Trojans for a season in 2008-2009. That year, he led USC to a Pac-10 Tournament championship and the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they fell to national runner-up Michigan State. Jones, meanwhile, played for Musselman when he was the head coach at Arkansas from 2018-2020. Musselman is also familiar with Sacramento, having coached the Kings during the 2006-2007 season. After posting a 33-49 record, he was let go by the team after just one year. Fortunately for Musselman, he has found far more success at the college coaching level than he did in the NBA. USC fans are certainly hoping that Musselman will continue the success that he had at Nevada and Arkansas with the Trojans.
