Parry Sound OPP arrest 2 impaired drivers in 2 days

(File photo/AlexRaths/iStock/Getty Images Plus) The West Parry Sound detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police arrested two impaired drivers in consecutive days following a traffic stop and a public complaint, according to recent news releases. On June 24 at about 10 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 400 in Seguin Township. After speaking with the driver, police initiated an impaired driving investigation. As a result, a 38-year-old Parry Sound man was charged with speeding and two impaired driving offences – including operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of more than 80. (File photo/Supplied/Ontario Provincial Police) The following day at around 8 p.m., police responded to a report of a driver with open alcohol on Isabella Street in Parry Sound. Officers located the vehicle in a parking lot and arrested a 46-year-old local man, charging him with operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams. In addition to the charges, the vehicles involved was impounded by police for seven days at the owner's expense and both accused also received a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension. Both accused were released and are scheduled to appear in court in Parry Sound on July 31. 'Make the call' OPP urged the public to report suspected impaired drivers in a related social media post. The high stakes, heart pounding, adventure show previously brought Brendan and Sam together and now they're back as a dating couple chasing race redemption. 'We've run this race before, we know what it takes, and we've got the best partners in the world this time,' said Brendan McDougall. Hosted by Olympic gold medalist Jon Montgomery, The Amazing Race Canada returns Tues., July 8 at 9 p.m., with 11 new Canadian teams setting out on an epic journey. The race kicks off in Edmonton, where last season's winners Katie and Taylor took home the winning title. This time, racers will begin their trek at Commonwealth Stadium and later in the season, for the first time in show history, the race reaches the Arctic Ocean in the Northwest Territories. Thieves accused of stealing $100K of material from Parry Sound area business

Two suspects accused of stealing $100K worth of material caught on security camera. June 2025 (Ontario Provincial Police) Surveillance cameras captured images of two suspects and a vehicle accused in the theft of $100,000 in material from a business in the Parry Sound area earlier this month. Investigators from the West Parry Sound detachment were called to the scene on Oastler Park Drive near Hunter Drive in the Township of Seguin around 11:30 a.m. June 9, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Thursday night. 'Approximately $100,000 worth of material was removed from the property between June 7 and June 9, OPP said. 'Suspects and a white cube van were captured by security cameras.' One of the surveillance images shared by police shows two suspects walking through a yellow gate. Both suspects appear to be wearing black hoodies and white gloves. One of the suspects appears to be wearing brown, knee-length shorts while the second suspect is wearing black pants and a blue and white surgical facemask. It is unclear what type of material was stolen.

Environment Canada has issued a heavy rainfall warning for several areas in this undated file image. Heavy rainfall is possible with local amounts ranging from 40-60 mm in the regions of Huntsville, Baysville, Town of Parry Sound, Rosseau and Killbear Park. The rain is expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Officials are reminding the public heavy rains can cause flash flooding and water pooling on the roads. Localized flooding is also possible and if visibility is reduced while driving to slow down and be prepared to stop.

Fatal crash partially closes Hwy 400 near Parry Sound

The West Parry Sound detachment responded to the crash around noon on June 3. Authorities confirmed in a news release that one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Highway 400's northbound lanes at Marsh Lake Road remain closed as police examine the scene. Ontario 511 confirms as of 4:45 p.m. that the roadway's northbound lanes remain closed between Exit 236 at Avro Arrow Road in Nobel and the Highway 559 turnoff. No further details have been released at this time. 'Further information will be provided when available,' OPP said in the release. Check back to for updates on this developing story.
