Parry Sound OPP arrest 2 impaired drivers in 2 days

The West Parry Sound detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police arrested two impaired drivers in consecutive days following a traffic stop and a public complaint, according to recent news releases.
On June 24 at about 10 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 400 in Seguin Township. After speaking with the driver, police initiated an impaired driving investigation.
As a result, a 38-year-old Parry Sound man was charged with speeding and two impaired driving offences – including operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of more than 80.

The following day at around 8 p.m., police responded to a report of a driver with open alcohol on Isabella Street in Parry Sound.
Officers located the vehicle in a parking lot and arrested a 46-year-old local man, charging him with operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams.
In addition to the charges, the vehicles involved was impounded by police for seven days at the owner's expense and both accused also received a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension.
Both accused were released and are scheduled to appear in court in Parry Sound on July 31.

OPP urged the public to report suspected impaired drivers in a related social media post.

'Police would like to remind the public to call 911 should they suspect impaired driving,' said Provincial Const. Brandon Charlebois in a related social media post.
'Drive sober.'

Two people are dead after a collision Saturday between two pickup trucks south of Thorsby. RCMP said in a media release Sunday evening officers went to the scene of a serious collision on Highway 778 at Township Road 490 about three kilometres south of the town. The two people inside a Chevrolet Silverado, a 31-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge Ram involved in the crash was taken to hospital. The 41-year-old's medical status was not given. Police said early indications are the driver of the Dodge was heading west on Township Road 490 when they went through a stop sign and hit the northbound Chevrolet on the highway. Thorsby is 51 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.

One person is dead and several others injured in a multi-vehicle crash along northbound Stoney Trail. We do not know seriously anyone may have been hurt or exactly how many vehicles were involved. Police say the collision happened around 6:17p.m. when multiple vehicles heading north on Stoney Trail collided between 17 Avenue and Bow Trail S.W. Police have closed Stoney Trail in both directions; southbound Stoney Trail traffic is being diverted at Bow Trail while northbound traffic is being diverted at 17 Avenue. There is no indication how long this closure will be in effect. This is a developing story and updates will be provided as details become available.
