1341-HP Mercedes-AMG GT XX EV Takes Aim at the Porsche Taycan

Mercedes-AMG has a new concept car called the GT XX that previews a new electric performance model set to reach production next year. The powertrain has three motors and provides 1341 horsepower, and Mercedes says the top speed is 223 mph. This sporty-looking sedan is targeted at the Porsche Taycan and other luxury electric cars. The current era of Mercedes's electric vehicles is defined by the blob-shaped lineup of EQ-badged cars, but the next phase promises to be more exciting. This new concept car, called the AMG GT XX, is a clear indicator that the brand's new electric performance halo model is nearly here. This car looks production-ready in its current form and is set to arrive next year riding on the new architecture that promises huge power and ultra-quick charging speeds. It's easiest to think of the GT XX as a successor to the current AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, as this new model is similar in size and features a similarly low-slung fastback silhouette. The rakish GT XX has a Maserati-esque, mouth-shaped grille and a daringly tapered rear end with no rear glass. Mercedes design chief Gorden Wagener says that the six circular taillight units are meant to evoke the quad exhaust tips seen on AMG gas models. The AMG GT XX's all-wheel-drive powertrain consists of three electric motors, with two in the rear and one in the front. These motors use a power-dense axial-flux design, as opposed to the more typical radial-flux motors found in most EVs. Total output sits at 1341 horsepower, which tops the most powerful Porsche Taycan, the 1019-hp Turbo GT. AMG isn't yet making claims about 60-mph acceleration but does project a top speed of 223 mph. With its 800-volt electrical architecture, the platform that underpins this car introduces new battery technology to the Mercedes range as well. We don't yet know the battery capacity, but AMG emphasizes the tall, thin battery cells that make up the pack and promises that the special cooling system allows for highly repeatable performance. Mercedes is also making bold claims for the EV XX's charging speeds. It says that the car will be capable of an average charging speed of 850 kilowatts and that it will be able to add 248 miles of range in five minutes. This will, of course, depend on charging equipment, as you'll need a DC fast-charger capable of this kind of power in order to charge this quickly. Mercedes and European charging company Alpitronic have created a prototype charger that can do it and plan to roll this out to the public at some point in the near future. The company said that the 850-kW charging will be through a CCS port for European applications, but couldn't say how this would translate to the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port that it has started adopting for its U.S. EVs. The GT XX's interior also seems to change course when compared with some of the current EQ vehicles and their massive hyperscreens covering the dashboard. There are still two large screens inside, but overall, the look is more driver-focused and minimalist, with orange accents and a sparse center console. AMG says it is using sustainable materials, including a synthetic leather made from recycled rubber from GT3 racing tires. The lightweight seats with carbon-fiber structures and the squared-off steering wheel take their inspiration from race-car cockpits. AMG may eventually offer varying power levels, but we can only assume that this 1341-hp setup will be the range-topper. The Porsche Taycan is its clearest target, but it will also compete with high-performance EVs such as the Lucid Air Sapphire and the Audi e-tron GT. It will also spawn an SUV sibling that will share this platform. We're not sure at this point what the production version of this AMG EV will be called, but we assume it will use the GT moniker in some way or another. AMG says that this new model will enter production in 2026, and we expect it to be priced well into the six-figure range. Glamorous socialite sued over Porsche crash that left elderly woman with a 'traumatic brain injury'

A glamorous socialite rammed into a senior citizen with her Porsche, leaving the woman with a traumatic brain injury, according to the alleged victim's lawsuit. Vanessa Getty, who married into the oil-rich Getty family, struck 66-year-old Mary Riley's parked vehicle on March 28, 2024, according to Riley's lawsuit. The socialite, 53, allegedly lost control of her $100,000 Porsche Taycan while looking for her glasses. Riley had just got back into her 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLK 550 and had not even had time to shut the car door before Getty smashed into her, the suit claimed. 'Suddenly and without warning a vehicle driven by Defendant Vanessa Louise Getty violently crashed into Plaintiff's parked vehicle,' the complaint filed on June 18 states. As a result of the incident Riley suffered, 'orthopedic injuries and a traumatic brain injury,' the suit said. Riley's lawyer, Quinton Cutlip, told Daily Mail that Getty told responding officers that, 'she had been distracted because she was looking for her glasses' when the crash happened. 'Ms. Getty was negligent and was apologetic at the scene. Ms. Riley was taken to the hospital by ambulance. She continues to receive treatment and care for injuries she suffered in the collision,' Cutlip said. The San Francisco Fire Department confirmed that one person was taken to the hospital after the 4:42pm crash at the intersection of Divisadero and Lombard Streets. Both vehicles were towed from the area of the collision. Riley's lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for her injuries, according documents filed with the court. 'This will all work itself out through the civil litigation process and trial, if necessary,' Cutlip said. Getty is married to Billy Getty, who is the son of composer and oil heir Gordon Getty. The Getty family was once the richest in the world and draws its wealth from the eponymous oil marketing company founded by Jean Paul Getty. The company went bankrupt in 2012, but Forbes estimated that the family was still worth $5.4 billion back in 2015. Getty, born Vanessa Jarman, is the daughter of actor Claude Jarman Jr. and ballerina Maryann Opperman. She graduated from UCLA and married into the Getty family in 1999. She and her husband have three children. For decades, Getty has been a fixture at exclusive events such as Vanity Fair's Oscar Party and various charity events. She's also known for her philanthropic work, as she helped develop the Peninsula Humane Society and founded San Francisco Bay Humane Friends, both nonprofits that seek to help displaced animals. She has supported Democratic candidates, most recently Vice President Kamala Harris, who happens to be the godmother to one of Getty's children. Getty appeared alongside other members of the esteemed family at the nuptials of Getty heir Ivy Love Getty to her now-ex-husband Tobias Engel. The November 2021 wedding was a lavish affair that began at San Francisco City Hall, where then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was invited to officiate the ceremony for the young couple. Royals rubbed shoulders with celebrities with Princess Maria-Olympia of Greece and Denmark, transgender model and activist Nats Getty, actress Anya Taylor-Joy, designer Wes Gordon, fashion editor Hamish Bowles among the esteemed guests. The ceremony was followed by a wild reception at the gorgeous family home in Pacific Heights, where guests partied until 1am.

Teen was driving drunk, knew import, try him as adult: State

Pune: The state prosecution on Monday told the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Pune, that the city police have sufficient evidence to show the teenage driver in last year's Porsche Taycan car crash, was driving the car under the influence of alcohol and was well aware of the consequences of serious crimes like culpable homicide. The JJB's principal magistrate GN Bagdodia was presiding over the hearing of Pune police's application seeking the teenage driver's trial as an adult and referring his case to a regular court. It has reserved for July 15 a final order in the matter after hearing both sides. Special public prosecutor Shishir Hiray submitted that the police invoked section 304 (culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the case and later invoked IPC section 467 (forgery). The two sections provide maximum punishments for up to 10 years and life imprisonment, respectively, and once a section providing life term punishment is invoked, the crime becomes serious in nature. "The child in conflict with law (CCL) knew very well the consequences of these offences. Police have evidence in the form of CCTV footage from the two pubs where the teenager partied with his friends and also witness statements that support the theory he had consumed alcohol and was driving the car under the influence of alcohol," the prosecutor submitted. "The CCL's family driver too has recorded the statement that the teenager did not pay heed to his advice against driving the vehicle in an inebriated condition," Hiray said. Finally, he submitted, when the police referred the teenager to the Sassoon General Hospital for a test to determine alcohol content in his blood, his parents and other co-accused, including the two (suspended) Sassoon doctors, got the blood samples swapped to manipulate the tests, the prosecutor submitted. Two young software engineers were killed when a prominent city builder's 17-year-old son, who was driving the high-end car back to his bungalow at Wadgaon Sheri after partying with friends at a couple of pubs in Mundhwa, rammed their motorcycle from behind at Kalyaninagar junction around 2.30am on May 19, 2024. The teenage driver's lawyer Prashant Patil cited a Supreme Court judgment in the Shilpa Mittal vs state of NCT Delhi and submitted that the object of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act is rehabilitation and social reintegration and not punishment. Patil told TOI, "We have submitted before the JJB that the police plea be rejected as the case does not fall within the heinous crime category. Criminal intention and knowledge, which are key ingredients to attracting culpable homicide and forgery charges, are missing. The child has no prior criminal record and the fatal incident though unfortunate arose out of a moment of poor judgment." Patil said sections related to culpable homicide and forgery provide maximum punishments, but do not prescribe minimum punishments. "An offence which does not prescribe a minimum sentence but provides for a maximum of more than seven years cannot be classified as a heinous offence under the provisions of section 2 (33) of the JJ Act," he said. "The minor's future, including his education and career, also needs to be considered," he added.

5 Luxury Cars That Will Have Massive Price Drops in Summer 2025

Summer 2025 is shaping up to be a buyer's market for luxury cars, with several high-end models expected to see steep price drops. Read Next: Find Out: Lauren Fix, automotive expert at Car Coach Reports, explained that high inventory, slowing demand for electric vehicles and shifting consumer preferences are driving down prices. Economic factors like tariffs, rising interest rates and elevated insurance costs are adding even more pressure, making luxury vehicles less attractive to many buyers. Those in the market for a luxury car should watch for dealer incentives and be ready to negotiate, as dealers are eager to clear out aging inventory. The following five models are set to offer some of the best deals, thanks to unique challenges each is facing in today's market. For anyone considering a luxury car purchase, summer 2025 could be the best time in years to score a deal. The Porsche Taycan, once a darling of the luxury electric vehicle world, is now facing significant depreciation. According to Fix, the luxury EV market is slowing, and the Taycan's resale value has dropped by 26.5% in the past year, now averaging around $73,976. This rapid decline is fueled by advances in EV battery technology and fierce competition from newer models, making older Taycans less appealing. Auto mechanic and JustAnswer expert Chris Pyle, says that dealers are more willing to lower the price in the negotiations to free up funds and space on the lot for the new models coming in. Buyers can expect even more aggressive pricing as summer inventory builds and the market for luxury EVs continues to soften. Jaguar's F-Pace SUV is another luxury vehicle expected to see major price drops this summer. The company's transition to an all-electric lineup by 2026 and a controversial rebrand have weakened demand for the F-Pace. According to Car and Driver, it's the slowest-selling U.S. automobile with a 291-day supply on dealer lots, so dealers may need to lower prices to clear stock. Fix noted that the F-Pace's future is uncertain, and buyers can expect deep discounts as Jaguar prepares to phase out this model. For those looking for a bargain on a stylish and capable luxury SUV, the F-Pace will be hard to overlook this season. The Maserati Grecale, a luxury SUV introduced to compete with top German rivals, is struggling with high pricing and low consumer interest. It saw price reductions for 2025, with the Modena trim now $2,000 less and the Trofeo $3,300 less than last year, according to Fix explained that dealers are likely to offer incentives and attractive financing deals to attract buyers, making this summer a prime time to negotiate a strong deal on a Grecale. RealCarTips reports that the 2025 Grecale GT is already selling for about 7% below MSRP, reflecting dealer incentives and negotiation. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, long considered the gold standard for luxury sedans, is expected to see reduced resale values in 2025. The S-Class faces increased competition from rivals like the BMW i7 and Lucid Air, as well as shifting market trends toward more affordable electric vehicles. As per Edmunds, the S-Class faces steep depreciation, with the S 580 4MATIC losing nearly $41,000 in value in its first year and over $65,000 in two years. According to Fix, oversupply and aging technology in the current generation are pushing dealers to offer discounts to attract buyers. As a result, those interested in the S-Class can expect to see more competitive pricing and incentives throughout the summer, especially on models that are not the latest refresh. BMW's 5 Series is another luxury sedan likely to experience substantial price drops this summer. The 2025 refresh, combined with increased production, is expected to lower the resale value of older models as newer versions flood the market. RealCarTips reports that the 2025 5 Series is selling for up to 9% below MSRP in some regions, highlighting strong dealer incentives and discounts. As such, dealers will be motivated to clear out prior-year inventory, leading to steep discounts and attractive financing offers. Fix suggested that buyers monitor dealership and online prices closely, as timing a purchase just before the new models arrive could yield the biggest savings. The 5 Series remains popular, but this summer's market conditions make it a standout for bargain hunters seeking a premium driving experience.
