Ineos Just Made the Grenadier Even Cooler

Last year, Ineos showcased an even more rugged version of the Grenadier , a prototype with portal axles. Now, the company has announced it is putting the vehicle into production with the help of Letech, the German off-road aftermarket specialist and builder. The upgrade adds a heavy-duty five-link front and rear suspension, portal axles with offset wheel hubs, and 37-inch BF Goodrich Mud Terrain off-road tires to the Grenadier and Grenadier Quartermaster Trialmasters . The tires wrap around 18-inch Hutchinson Industries forged beadlock alloy wheels. Photo by: Ineos Photo by: Ineos The portal axle modification increases the Grenadier's ground clearance by 7.3 inches, to 17.7 inches. It also increases the vehicle's wading depth to 41.3 inches, up from 31.5. Ineos says the upgrade gives the Grenadier greater wheel travel, better axle articulation, and a wider footprint. Letech also adds a tire pressure control system, high-performance brakes, a front winch system, and a spare wheel carrier. Visual upgrades include extended wheel arches, off-road running boards, a multi-function rear ladder with a jerry can mount, a roof rack, LED spotlights, and unique badging. The drivetrain remains unchanged, with the Grenadier and Quartermaster available with either BMW's 3.0-liter B57 diesel or B58 gasoline engines. Inside, each Letech Ineos features heated front seats, a premium sound system, leather, privacy glass, carpeted floor mats, and all the standard equipment that comes with the Trialmaster trims. Photo by: Ineos The Grenadier and Quartermaster start at €170,000 and €171,000, respectively, excluding VAT ($198,765 and $199,918 at today's exchange rate). Ineos builds the vehicles at its factory before sending them to Letech's facility to complete. The order books are now open, but limited to European customers for now. Ineos said it had received interest from over 1,000 private customers after revealing the prototypes at last year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. Hopefully, the company will find it in its heart to send at least a few examples Stateside. You can now officially buy the portal axled Ineos Grenadier, if you've got £150k lying around Ineos teams up with LeTech to put its monstrous conversion kit into production after over 1,000 people expressed interest Skip 10 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 10 Remember the Ineos Grenadier LeTech prototype we drove up a mountain in Iceland, and then again in a muddy field in the UK? Well, after over 1,000 people expressed their interest in buying one, it'll soon be officially available to order at your local Ineos showroom. Well, so long as you live in Germany, with the LeTech being offered to the rest of Europe thereafter. And so long as you have a spare €170,000 excluding VAT lying around for the Station Wagon version, or €171,000 excluding VAT for the giant Quartermaster pickup. Advertisement - Page continues below Yeah, it's not cheap. But you are getting a lot of off-road kit for the cash. These Grenadiers will start life at the Ineos factory in Hambach as muddy spec Trialmasters with front and rear locking diffs. They will then be taken to LeTech's facility near Stuttgart in Germany where they'll be fitted with 'a new heavy-duty five-link front and rear suspension layout, portal axles with wheel hubs offset from the main axle and larger 37in BFGoodrich Mud Terrain off-road tyres'. The 3.0-litre turbo straight-six from BMW remains unchanged no matter whether you spec the petrol or diesel option, but LeTech also adds 18in forged beadlock alloy wheels, new brakes, wider wheel arches and running boards, a front winch, a rear ladder, a roof rack and a lightbar with six LED spotlights. A tyre pressure control system and LED rear lamps are also options. Yes, give us all of the spotlights. The tiptoed Grenadiers also come with a full leather interior, heated front seats, safari windows and a 'premium sound system'. Orders will open later this month and Ineos has had 'numerous enquiries' from rescue services and aid agencies that operate in less-than-ideal driving conditions. They will be pleased to hear the modifications enhance ground clearance to 450mm (a 186mm improvement) and wading depth to 1,050mm (up from 800mm as standard). The new setup also provides much greater wheel travel and improved axle articulation, while the 3,500kg towing capacity remains. As does the standard car's five-year, unlimited mileage mechanical warranty, apparently. Very sensible. Anything else you should know? Ah yes, it's now officially called the Ineos Grenadier Trialmaster X LeTech, because every collaboration needs to include an 'X' these days. It costs £150k but it might be the most capable 4x4 you can buy off the peg

The Ineos Grenadier was already one of the most versatile and off-road focused cars on sale, but it just got even more capable thanks to off-road experts at Letech. The German firm famous for modifying the Mercedes G-Class has just added portal axles and other upgrades to both the Ineos Grenadier and the Quartermaster pick-up. Advertisement - Article continues below Orders for the Ineos Grendaier Trialmaster X Letech have opened in Europe with the Grenadier costing 170,000 euros (roughly £150,000) and the Quartermaster costing 1,000 euros more - excluding VAT. That marks a steep increase over the regular Grenadier Station Wagon and Quartermaster, which both kick off at £62,495 here in the UK. There's a good reason though because Letech has added all the necessary modifications you need to take the Ineos almost anywhere. The most significant change is indeed those portal axles - something we've seen previously on the Mercedes-AMG G 63 4x4². Portal axles essentially elevate the ride height via gears in the wheel hub - Mercedes saw a gain of 110mm to the G-Class' ground clearance by employing the tech in the G 63 4x4². The Ineos gets a giant increase of 186mm to give a total of 450mm and it's not just ground clearance where it impresses because wading depth is up from 800mm to 1,050mm as well. Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below Powering both vehicles are the same BMW-derived straight-six turbocharged petrol and diesel engines - meaning that the 3,500kg towing capacity is retained. The Station Wagon (the SUV style model) has a payload capacity of 540kg while the Quartermaster pick-up comes with a 642kg capacity. Letech's Grenadier and Quartermaster Trialmaster are also fitted with a new heavy-duty five-link front and rear suspension layout and 37-inch Mud Terrain off-road tyres from BFGoodrich. The 18-inch forged alloy wheels are also new, while Letech has added a high performance braking system, extended wheel arches, a front-mounted winch and a rear ladder attachment. There's also a jerry can, which might be just as well because we struggled to get over 20mpg in the Quartermaster recently. Making sure you can see where you're going off-road, Letech has added six old-school roof lights, plus there's a roof rack a spare wheel carrier and exclusive 'Trialmaster x Letech' Door Sill Scuff Plates and A-pillar badging to ensure no one mistakes it for a regular Ineos. The standard Ineos' five-year/unlimited mileage factory warranty is retained with Letech's additions being covered by a two-year warranty. How Ineos Is Planning Growth: Balancing Demand And Tariff Uncertainty

Ineos Grenadier exhibit at the New York Auto Show 'The U.S. has a strong car culture,' says George Ratcliffe, president of the Americas for Ineos Automotive, which makes it the perfect place for this rugged yet bespoke off-road brand to flourish. Adding price protections will guarantee that as uncertainly roils the automotive market, or at least that's what Ineos is hoping. But first, the company has to navigate the waters of heated competition, building a dealer network and the always fluctuating issue of tariffs. 'With or without tariffs, the message is the same: we're growing a new brand and we've really got to look after our customer first,' Ratcliffe told us. The first message from Ineos is that it will extend price protections to fortify that customer relationship. The company will limit tariff markups to 5%. This represents quite a discount on both the Grenadier SUV, subject to a 25% tariff because it's built in Hambach, France, and the Quartermaster pickup truck, subject to an additional 25% tariff thanks to the 'chicken tax' levied on imported pickup trucks. The strategy is designed for long-term growth, Ratcliffe told Forbes. With more than three million pickup trucks sold in the U.S., Ineos believes that even a small share of the market can be quite lucrative and key to the company's growth. In 2024 the U.S. represented 65% of Ineos' global sales. The Sewell Ineos dealership in Dallas, Texas After a very strong launch in the U.S., Ineos Automotive is fortifying its U.S. market position with new leadership, an expanded dealer network and new offerings. Late in 2024 the company added Gregor Hembrough, formerly head of Polestar's U.S. operations, as executive vice president of U.S. operations, and is moving the company's headquarters to Montvale, New Jersey, from Raleigh, North Carolina. The move will give Ineos Automotive a strategic advantage. 'The automotive competence is in that area,' Hembrough said. 'All the big automotive manufacturers from Europe are in that area,' and it makes for an easier commute to Ineos's headquarters in London and manufacturing plant in France. Ineos is also growing the strength of its dealership network, not only expanding the current network of 32 dealers to 41 by the end of 2025, but by ensuring their dealers are truly partners. 'We want partners that want to grow the brand, who are passionate about the product,' Hembrough told us. Ineos is looking for a collaborative approach, which the company sees as the best way to serve the buyer. Ineos Grenadier Arcane Works editions offer a higher level of luxury, customization and more ... More capability Enhancing its sales model is the ability for customers to build truly personalized versions of the brand's SUV and pickup truck, a strategy that has elevated both sales and revenue for ultra-luxury brands like Aston Martin and Rolls-Royce. Ineos models which start at just under $80,000, can quickly double in price with color-matched paints, bespoke interiors and customized accessories and equipment. Ineos' Arcane Works is the first sub-brand from the carmaker, and will offer limited series SUVs and trucks and introduce high quality customization. The Detour, for example, has a limited run of just 200 and is hand finished in the U.K., requiring 150 hours to craft each one. Customers can also order a rally version of the Grenadier, designed for the most extreme terrain and weather. Ineos has set high expectations for sales growth, despite the challenges; the company is targeting 50% growth in the U.S. this year. And if Rolls-Royce and Aston Martin, which are seeing order rates of more than 50% for highly personalized models, are any indication, the Ineos future is both bright and exciting.

Honda and Ineos recall cars in South Africa

Car manufacturers Honda Motor Company Southern Africa and Ineos Automotive South Africa have both alerted the National Consumer Commission (NCC) of five vehicles that need to be recalled due to defects. Three of the five vehicles are Honda, and the rest are Ineos. The Civic four-door sedan, the Civic five-door Type R hatchback, and the five-door CR-V SUV from 2022 to 2025 could potentially have an issue with their electric power steering, specifically with the worm wheel, which could result in abnormal noise or dangerous sticking when turning the steering wheel. The issue is global, and 1.7 million vehicles are reportedly affected. Honda has urged consumers to take the affected vehicles to the suppliers to replace the affected parts if necessary. Ineos has recalled its Grenadier SUV and the Quartermaster bakkie. The carmaker notified the NCC that some of its customers reported door buttons remaining in the depressed position when a door is opened from the outside, which Ineos says could cause the door not to fully close and latch as designed. These vehicles were made available nationally at SMH Group Johannesburg and SMG Ineos Grenadier in KwaZulu-Natal and Cape Town. They were also exported to Namibia, Botswana, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, Nigeria and Senegal. Customers with affected vehicles are urged to take their vehicles to their nearest or preferred dealerships or authorised repairers to arrange an appointment to have the vehicles inspected and have all door button mechanisms replaced.
