Why Relebohile Mofokeng will leave Orlando Pirates this winter
Orlando Pirates were saved on several occasions by the mesmerising skills of youngster Relebohile Mofokeng. The 20-year-old amassed 27 goal contributions during the recently concluded 2024/25 season, including eight in thirteen CAF Champions League appearances. The boy from Sharpeville has the world at his feet – and boy, do they want him. Several clubs have inquired, including Barcelona FC and Glasgow Rangers, and most recently, Al Ahly and Zamalek FC, who had their R25.8 million mid-season bid rejected during the summer window. The Buccaneers have done all they can to keep hold of their starboy, but everyone has a price (especially in soccer), and it appears Orlando Pirates' is around R31.2 million, plus a selling-on percentage, which has been known to materialise lucrative returns. 'Orlando Pirates [are] demanding about 1.5 million euros (approx. R31.2 million) for the 20-year-old talent, as well as a percentage of any future sale,' SoccerLaduma confirmed. The fact that Orlando Pirates have placed a valuation on Mofokeng suggests that they're willing to listen to offers, increasing the likelihood of an offseason exit. Late last year Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos predicted that last season would be Mofokeng's last with Orlando Pirates, a belief that the player's father hopes will become reality. 'My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I'm praying every day. I don't want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,' Sechaba said. [Whether it's in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. I'll be happy — but not Saudi Arabia,' say's the Orlando Pirates' player's father. 'Not yet. He's still young. He needs to compete in UEFA competitions. If he goes to Saudi now, he won't experience that. Yes, he'd be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you're not happy, it's worthless.' Orlando Pirates news: Mofokeng exit and Angolan striker incoming!
Orlando Pirates have some exciting transfer news – however, they're also at risk of losing their golden boy, Relebohile Mofokeng. The Buccaneers have fuelled speculation of an offseason exit by placing a price tag on the talented 20-year-old, insinuating that they're ready to entertain offers following rejecting several in recent memory, including an R25.8 million bid from Zamalek in January. 'Orlando Pirates [are] demanding about 1.5 million euros (approx. R31.2 million) for the 20-year-old talent, as well as a percentage of any future sale,' SoccerLaduma confirmed. Mofokeng's father believes now is the time to flock South Africa, another sign that he will be elsewhere when the 2025/26 season commences. 'My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I'm praying every day. I don't want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,' Sechaba said. '[Whether it's in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. Yes, he'd be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you're not happy, it's worthless.' Orlando Pirates are reportedly monitoring Angolan forward and Kaizer Chiefs target Laurindo Depu Aurelio. 'What I can tell you is that both teams had their scouts there. The scouts were all happy with what they saw in Depu and they enquired about him,' a source confirmed. 'Apparently Kaizer Chiefs wanted their defender Inacio Miguel to help them talk to the player and his representatives. And Orlando Pirates also believed to be willing to talk to the player. They have their different reasons but apparently the scouts from both clubs are happy with what they saw.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Orlando Pirates slap price tag on Mofokeng as North Africa lingers!
Orlando Pirates will surely be feeling several clubs breathing down their neck for the services of starboy Relebohile Mofokeng. That's perhaps why they have finally named their price – around R31.2 million – for the 20-year-old sensation, a whopping R5.5 million more than the bid from Zamalek FC they rejected during the summer window. 'Orlando Pirates [are] demanding about 1.5 million euros (approx. R31.2 million) for the 20-year-old talent, as well as a percentage of any future sale,' SoccerLaduma confirmed. From North Africa to Europe, Orlando Pirates have presumably been inundated with Mofokeng-enquiries. The likes of Ah Alhy, Maccabi Haifa, Barcelona FC and Glasgow Rangers have been linked with the winger. Fueling further speculation off an offseason exit is the player's father, Sechaba, who believes now is the perfect time to flock South Africa and integrate with game's biggest leagues. Orlando Pirates dismiss reports linking Relebohile Mofokeng with R31m move to Israel
No truth behind Israel rumours, say Pirates Soweto giants Orlando Pirates have dismissed reports linking Relebohile Mofokeng with a move to Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv. Photo: Phakamisa Lensman/BackpagePix Orlando Pirates have insisted they have received no approach from Israeli giants Maccabi Tel Aviv over the signing of star Relebohile Mofokeng. Reports from Israel emerged earlier this week that Maccabi Tel Aviv had registered their interest to buy Mofokeng, resulting in the club slapping a €1.5 million (R31.2 million) price tag on the youngster, plus a percentage on any future sale. However, according to Soccer Laduma, a 'well-placed insider' at the club denied there had been any contact made with the Israeli club over the sale of the 20-year-old. The insider went as far as calling the speculation over Mofokeng's future 'disruptive'. Attempts by IOL Sport to get an official comment from Orlando Pirates were unsuccessful.
