The incident occurred at 1.02pm on May 16. The charge was framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of one to five years, a fine, or both, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Naabil Mohamed Asri urged the court to impose a proportionate sentence as a lesson to the accused, citing public interest, since the damage involved government property. The court then sentenced Nik Mohadi, who was unrepresented, to 18 months imprisonment, to run consecutively after he completes his current sentence under the same section, which began on July 7, and is set to end on April 22 next year. Bangladeshi gets 10 months' jail for harbouring countrymen

KOTA BARU: A Bangladeshi was sentenced to 10 months' jail by the magistrate's court here today for harbouring 17 of his countrymen at a house in Kampung Kubang Siput near Limbat in April. Mohamad Masudkhan, 29, pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid, who ordered the sentence to be served from the date of arrest on April 19. The accused had been charged with committing the offence at No. 1106, Jalan Kubang Kacang, Kampung Kubang Siput at 7.30pm on April 8. He was alleged to have allowed 17 Bangladeshi men aged between 20 and 43 to stay at the premises under his control without valid documents or permits. The individuals were identified as Md Shihab Uddin, Faruk Mia, Abdul Kader, Md Arif Billah, Md Ismail, Md Moslem, Md Tahin Mazi, Md Shofikul Islam, Md Ariful Islam, Sagor, Md Siyam Hosen, Md Rafi, Abdul Jalil, Md Abdul Gofur, Md Joshim Uddin, Md Momin, and Kausar Alom. The charge was framed under Section 55E(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amended 2002), and punishable under Section 55E(2) of the same. Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Naabil Mohamed Asri urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence to serve as a deterrent to others. In mitigation, defence lawyer Muhamad Fiqri Muhamad appealed for a lenient sentence, stating that this was his client's first offence and he had promised not to repeat it.

Medical assistant claims trial to stealing mobile power generator truck

KOTA BHARU: A medical assistant at a health clinic pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here on Thursday (May 29 to stealing a mobile power generator truck from an industrial equipment supplier last year. Asrul Azwan Yunus, 46, entered the plea before Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid. According to the charge, he allegedly stole a mobile power generator truck from the company's storage facility between 11pm and 4am on July 19, 2024. The offence was framed under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between one and seven years and a fine, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Naabil Mohamed Asri conducted the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Nik Saiful Adli Burhan. Ahmad Naabil proposed bail at RM10,000. However, Nik Saiful requested a lower amount, citing that the accused has to support a wife and two school-going children. The court allowed bail at RM4,000 with one surety and fixed July 8 for mention. – Bernama
