CM takes dig at RaGa for paying tributes to Indira wearing shoes

Bhopal: CM Mohan Yadav on Tuesday took a jibe at Lok Sabha LOP for not removing his shoes while paying homage to former PM Indira Gandhi outside the state Congress office. Yadav told reporters, "I have received information that the Lok Sabha LOP has come to the state. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He should come. This is a democracy. Everyone has the right to come." He then said, "But he (Rahul Gandhi) offered floral tributes to his grandmother (Indira Gandhi) and did not remove his shoes. This I didn't like much because it is not in our culture. We need to give special attention to this. In our culture, we have special sensitivity when offering homage." Rahul Gandhi came to the state capital on a day's visit to launch the Congress' 'Sangathan Srajan Abhiyan' (organisation rejuvenation campaign) and hold meetings with party functionaries, MLAs, and workers. Soon after his arrival at the Congress state office, Rahul paid floral tributes at the foot of Indira's statue located outside the state PCC office. A video went viral showing Rahul offering his tribute wearing shoes.

‘Trump picked up the phone and said…': In Bhopal, Rahul Gandhi's ‘surrender' jibe at PM Modi

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, claiming that he had surrendered following a phone call from US President Donald Trump during Operation Sindoor. Gandhi was speaking in Bhopal during the Congress's Sangathan Srajan Abhiyan (organisation rejuvenation campaign), where he acknowledged the frustration of party leaders who genuinely wanted to fight for the Congress but weren't being heard. He also spoke about leaders making nonsensical statements, warning that 'lame horses' in the organisation would be retired. 'I now know the BJP and RSS people very well. Just put a little pressure on them, give them a slight push, they run away in fear. Trump gave just a signal, picked up the phone and said, 'Modi ji, what are you doing? Narendra, surrender.' Saying 'Yes, sir', Narendra Modi obeyed Trump's signal,' he said. He told the audience that they may 'remember a time when there was no phone call – when the Seventh Fleet came during the 1971 war.' 'Weapons arrived, an aircraft carrier came. Indira Gandhi said, 'I will do what I have to do.' That is the difference. That's character. All these people are like this. Since the time of Independence, they have a habit of writing surrender letters… Gandhi ji, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel – they were not people who surrendered. They were people who stood up to superpowers,' Gandhi said. — Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) June 3, 2025 Gandhi cited the central government's decision to conduct the caste census as another example of when the ruling BJP government caved under pressure. 'Modi ji used to say there are no castes. Then he said there are only four castes. During elections, he suddenly becomes OBC. Gadkari ji made a statement. Mohan Bhagwat made a statement. A little pressure was applied – they completely surrendered. But I know them. Just like they handled women's reservation – they pushed it ten years down the line – the same is happening here. They don't really want to do it. They just said it under pressure. But they don't want to do it because they don't want justice in this country. They want a country of Ambanis and Adanis, a country for billionaires, not a country of social justice,' Gandhi said. He said the Congress unit of Madhya Pradesh had ample talent but their hands were tied. 'Look, in this state, the Congress ideology, the Congress workers, and the ideological leaders of the Congress – there is no shortage. The room is full of talent capable of defeating the BJP. But your hands are tied. Why are they tied? Because your voice isn't being heard properly within the Congress organisation,' Gandhi said. 'This is our army. They are ready to fight. They are ready to die. In between, a few people keep making nonsensical statements. Some are just frustrated. Some are doing a bit of the BJP's work. But we have to start from somewhere,' Gandhi said. Gandhi laid emphasis on the district working presidents, saying they are the future leaders of the state. 'Among you, there will be people who work with full strength and heart for the Congress. And there will also be people who are tired or in a bad mood, or under too much stress,' Gandhi said. Gandhi spoke about the categories of Congress leaders in the state, differentiating them into race horses, wedding horses and lame horses. 'Now we must differentiate between racehorses and wedding horses. Sometimes the Congress Party sends the racehorse to a wedding. And sometimes they put the wedding horse on the racetrack. Then someone whips it from behind, and it just sits down right there. But there is a third category too – the lame horse. So we must identify them. The wedding horse should go to a wedding. The racehorse should be in the race. And the lame one should be retired,' Gandhi said. Gandhi also criticised the list of new district presidents drafted in Gujarat. 'In Gujarat, we selected new district presidents. Observers came from Delhi, from the AICC. They went to every district with Gujarat leaders, spoke to workers, people, leaders and selected names and sent them to Delhi. I saw both the lists… I saw those two lists – the difference was like night and day. I shouldn't say this, but one list looked like it was made by a senior leader's assistant, and the other had the potential future leadership of Gujarat. That is exactly what we want to do in Madhya Pradesh,' Gandhi said.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 3 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav targeted Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, for not removing his shoes while paying a floral tribute to the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, in Bhopal. Speaking to the media, Mohan Yadav said, 'I got information about the Lok Sabha LoP's visit... But I did not like the fact that he did not take off his shoes while paying tribute to his grandmother (Indira Gandhi). This is not in alignment with our culture, we maintain sensitivity...' Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to his grandmother and former PM Indira Gandhi as he arrived in Bhopal. He is set to attend various programmes in the city as a part of the Congress's 'Sangathan Srajan Abhiyan' (Organisation Rejuvenation Campaign). As the hero of the caste census, Rahul Gandhi raised a new voice in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP had to agree to his (Rahul Gandhi) point despite refusing. It is a matter of good fortune for us that the warrior of social justice, Rahul Gandhi, is visiting Bhopal today to start the campaign of Sangathan Srijan, laying the foundation stone.' He said that the campaign aims to develop a new structure of the organisation, maintaining transparency from the village level to the ward level and develop new thoughts in the Congress party. (ANI)

Today in Politics: Rahul Gandhi to launch MP Cong revival campaign; second phase of Ram Mandir consecration

Days after the All India Congress Committee (AICC) appointed district observers to oversee the party's organisational revamp in Madhya Pradesh, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is set to lead a series of meetings in Bhopal as part of the Congress's 'Sangathan Srajan Abhiyan (Organisation Rejuvenation Campaign)' on Tuesday. The campaign, which had been approved by the Congress Working Committee (CWC) at a meeting in Karnataka's Belagavi in December 2024, aims to prepare the party ahead of the 2028 Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh. The move is part of a larger national effort to restructure the party's state units. On Tuesday, Gandhi will launch the campaign in Madhya Pradesh, where the Congress has been diminished since its government collapsed in 2020. The Congress suffered an overwhelming defeat in the 2023 Assembly polls, winning just 66 of the state's 234 seats. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP swept all 29 of the state's Parliamentary seats. 'The abhiyan is being launched to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level and instill enthusiasm among party workers. We have not been in power in Madhya Pradesh for a long time,' former state party chief Arun Yadav and ex-minister Sajjan Verma said on Monday. While in Bhopal, Gandhi will attend a meeting of the state Congress's Political Affairs Committee, followed by meetings with all party MPs and MLAs from the state, observers appointed both by the AICC and the state unit. He will also attend a party convention with members of the state committee, district and block presidents, and AICC members. Gandhi's visit comes just over a week after the state Congress launched a pilot project in the Vidisha district to restructure the party from the grassroots level. Meanwhile, the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government is set to hold a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday in Pachmarhi to honour the legacy of tribal king Raja Bhabhut Singh. According to officials, Pachmarhi holds historical significance due to the contributions of the Gond ruler, who utilised the hilly terrain for governance, security, and the protection of cultural heritage. The BJP has been making special efforts to commemorate regional icons recently. While the Madhya Pradesh government held a recent Cabinet meeting at the Rajwada Palace in Indore to mark the 300th birth anniversary year of famed queen Ahilyabai Holkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 31 attended a 'Mahila Sashaktikaran Maha Sammelan' in Bhopal that also honoured Ahilyabai Holkar. Second phase of Ram Mandir consecration The second phase of the consecration ceremony at the Ram Mandir in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya will begin on Tuesday, officials said. As a precursor to the 'pran pratishtha', a grand sacred procession was flagged off from the banks of the Saryu River on Monday. According to an official statement, the upcoming rituals will include the consecration of idols in the Ram Darbar on the temple's first floor and in six other temples within the complex walls. The main ceremonies will culminate on June 5, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Ganga Dussehra. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to attend four key events, including the main consecration ceremony. No public invitations have been issued for June 3 to 5. A similar three-day celebration was held on January 11, marking the first anniversary of the original 'pran pratishtha' that was led by PM Modi in January last year. Speaker Om Birla in Brazil Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is in Brazil to participate in the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, where he is scheduled to present his views on reform of multilateral peace and security architecture. Birla is leading the Indian parliamentary delegation for the three-day forum, which will be attended by presiding officers of parliaments of BRICS members and invited nations. The delegation comprises Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Rajya Sabha member Surendra Singh Nagar, Lok Sabha members Vijay Baghel, Vivek Thakur and Shabari Byreddy. Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh and Rajya Sabha Secretary General P C Mody are also part of the delegation. – With PTI inputs
