"I will not apologise, have no regrets": Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad after assaulting canteen staff
'I will not apologise. Whatever the CM and Deputy CM said is their duty. I respect their words, but they also said that there should be an inquiry into the hotel. I have no regrets. I was about to consume poison; others cannot understand this, so I have no regrets for what I did,' the Shiv Sena MLA told reporters here.
Earlier today, a purported video of Gaikwad allegedly slapping a canteen worker went viral on social media. The Shiv Sena MLA from Buldhana accused the Akashwani canteen of serving bad quality food and said that the staff were not listening to his complaints.
In response to the complaints of the MLA, the state's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the license of Ajanta Caterers, the manager of the Akashwani canteen.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials took food samples from the Akashvani MLA canteen.
Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad thrashed a canteen employee here yesterday, alleging poor quality of food.
'Samples of paneer, Schezwan chutney, oil, and toor dal have been taken. These will be sent to the lab and the report will come in 14 days, an FDA official said.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday condemned the alleged assault incident involving Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad, who was caught in a video slapping a canteen worker at the Akashvani MLA Guest House in Mumbai over poor food quality.
Speaking in the State Legislative Council, Fadnavis stated that such behaviour is unacceptable and not honourable for anyone.
CM emphasised that Gaikwad's actions as an MLA have tarnished the reputation of all legislators. He also highlighted the need for accountability among public representatives. (ANI)

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has suspended the licence of a caterer that operates the canteen at the MLA hostel in Mumbai, where a staffer was assaulted by a Shiv Sena legislator for allegedly serving stale food. The FDA, in its suspension order on Wednesday evening, stated the contractor (Ajanta Caterers) had violated provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011. The violations were found during an inspection conducted at the Akashwani MLA hostel earlier on Wednesday, said the regulator. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cardiologist Reveals: The Simple Morning Habit for a Flatter Belly After 50! Netas' aggression amplified by social media jolts city
Mumbai: With activists of political parties resorting to violence in the name of asserting Marathi asmita (prestige), a sense of unease has gripped many, especially in the class engaged in providing services and running small establishments. They fear that they or their employees could be targeted because they do not speak Marathi fluently. Political aggression manifesting in acts of violence like the Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad who slapped a canteen staff at the MLA hostel on Tuesday has also become a cause of concern. Some say the so-called "language war" needs to be curbed urgently. Puran Singh Rajput, whose family is from Nathdwara in Rajasthan, runs a grocery shop in Mira Road. "I was born here and know Marathi, but my father who has been in the city for three decades cannot speak Marathi. I fear that tomorrow any activist can confront my father and humiliate him just because he does not speak Marathi," said Rajput. "Maharashtrians live and work in different states and no one demands that they learn Bhojpuri in Bihar or Oriya in Odisha. Then why do we, in Maharashtra, learn Marathi? This is nothing but politics," he said. Many say learning the language is an advantage but forcing someone to speak it is akin to fuelling linguistic chauvinism, and using violence to "punish" those who cannot speak this language is simply lawlessness. They blame misuse of social media to amplify acts of violence perpetrated in the name of linguistic supremacy. Shaikh Abdullah, whose Kurla-based bakery employs around 200 workers from different states, said, to win voters ahead of BMC polls, political workers are coining bigoted slogans and creating a climate of fear. One of my Maharashtrian employees failed in Marathi in matriculation exam while my daughter who has a Bihari origin topped in Marathi in her school at the same Board exam," said Pandey.
