Shravani Mela: Staff seeking leave face Deoghar admn ire
Dumka: Prompted by the sudden surge in the number of leave applications from govt employees, including magistrates deployed on Shravani Mela duty, Deoghar deputy commissioner Naman Priyesh Lakra on Sunday directed the chief medical officer (CMO) to form a three-member medical board to determine if the claims of the individuals seeking release are valid or not. He said that the move is to prevent misuse of leave on health grounds at a time when lakhs of people are coming to Deoghar during the Shravan month. He said, "Proper decisions pertaining to leave applications submitted by employees seeking release from the mela duty on health grounds will be taken only after the medical board's decision," he said. He added that those who availed the exemption from the mela duty before July 19 will also have to undergo medical examination before the medical board and submit the certificate, failing which they will be liable for action. Administration requires heavy manpower for smooth conduct of Shravani mela. The crowd turnout surges every Monday considered auspicious during the Shravan month. Since the start of Shravan on July 11, over 8 lakh devotees have so far visited Baidyanathdham temple in Deoghar.

Thousands pour in at Dumka and Deoghar dists on day one
1 2 Dumka: Thousands of kanwariyas have started to arrive at Baidyanath Dham and Basukinath Shiva temples in Deoghar and Dumka districts to offer prayers to mark the onset of holy Shravan from Friday. Many of them are from Bihar who covered 100 km on foot to reach Deoghar on Thursday night. "Devotees started queuing up along the kanwariya route from Thursday night," said a magistrate deployed near Tiwari Chowk. The way the crowd is pouring in, the figure might just cross one-lakh mark on first day of the holy month. The doors of the temple for common devotees opened at 4:15 am after the completion of the sarkari puja (first offerings to the deity by the high priest). A long serpentine queue of devotees, extending up to 3 km, had already formed by then. Like the past few years, the temple administration has introduced the Arghya system for the devotees to offer the sacred Gangajal and other puja paraphernalia without entering the garbh griha. A large brass-made vessel has been installed outside the garbh griha, which is channelled up to the Shivalinga . Additionally, three more vessels have been installed at other locations outside and inside the temple to facilitate those who can't join the queue due to physical conditions or other reasons. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Providers are furious: Internet access without a subscription! Techno Mag Learn More Undo Although there will be no VIP, VVIP, or out-of-turn offerings during the month-long Shravani period, the temple administration is continuing with the provision of the Shighra Darsanam for those seeking easy access to the temple premises. "The rate of the Shighra Darsanam coupons has been doubled from Rs 300 to Rs 600 per person during the Shravani. Yet, a considerable number of devotees have been opting for it to avoid waiting for a longer time in the queue," said a local priest. Senior administrative and police officials, including Dumka DIG Ambar Lakda, Deoghar deputy commissioner Naman Priyesh Lakda, and SP Ajit Peter Dungdung, were spotted supervising the affairs from early morning on Friday. Both Deoghar DC and SP jointly addressed the magistrates, govt officials, and those from the security forces at the administrative camp in the BEd College ground. They emphasised being humble towards the devotees so that they can have a good image of the state while returning to their respective places. "All the administrative stakeholders are required to ensure that the kanwariyas' queue keeps moving to let them wait for the minimum period to enter the temple premises," the DC said. Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place at Basukinath temple too by the Dumka district administration for the smooth conduct of the Shravani Mela.
