Kaizer Chiefs' Gaston Sirino faces SARS trouble over R6. 1 million unpaid taxes

The 34-year-old has been an integral part of the Chiefs team under coach Nasreddine Nabi . Sirino, who won nine trophies with Sundowns in six years with the club before joining Chiefs last year, will now have to fork out a massive sum. SARS Tax Debt Notice for Sirino: Urgent Payment Required Within 10 Days 'According to the records of the South African Revenue Service, you have failed to pay your tax debt for one or more tax years and tax periods," read a letter to the player from SARS as quoted by the Sunday World. 'You are requested to make full payment within 10 days from the date of this letter of demand. 'Failure to make full payment or use the above remedies may result in the following actions and possibly others: SARS may appoint any third party who presently or in the future will owe you money or hold money for you to settle your tax debt with this money. 'A civil judgment is being entered against you, in which case a warrant of execution may be issued for the sheriff of the court to attach and sell your assets. 'If you are a natural person, you may apply for a reduction of the amount to be paid to SARS based on you and your dependents' basic living expenses. 'If you are a non-natural person, you may apply for a reduction of the amount to be paid to SARS based on serious financial hardship.' Though Chiefs did win their first piece of silverware in a decade when they beat Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final last month, it did not hide the fact that the AmaKhosi finished outside the top eight for a second season in a row. Since the end of the season, the rumour mills have begun to swirl about high-profile transfers with Percy Tau even linked with a possible move to Chiefs. This comes after Ranga Chivaviro already left the club earlier in June. @Michael_Sherman IOL Sport

Kaizer Chiefs star faces R6.1 million tax storm

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Gaston Sirino has landed in serious trouble with the South African Revenue Service (SARS), as reports claim he owes a massive R6.1 million in unpaid personal tax. The Uruguayan playmaker allegedly chose to ignore a formal request from SARS, consequently, the tax authority escalated the matter by initiating legal action. As a result, his reputation and assets now face serious risk, and unless he acts swiftly, the situation could worsen further. SARS reportedly applied for a default judgment at the Johannesburg High Court. Accusing Sirino of failing to respond to a letter of demand issued in March 2025. The letter, which Sunday World quotes, issued a stern warning: 'According to the records of the South African Revenue Service. You have failed to pay your tax debt for one or more tax years and tax periods.' SARS requests that you make full payment within 10 days from the date of this letter of demand. Sirino's apparent silence has prompted SARS to ramp up its response. The revenue authority has made it clear that should the Chiefs midfielder fail to comply. They won't hesitate to pursue more aggressive enforcement tactics. In the same letter, SARS warned that it could auction off Sirino's assets if he doesn't settle the debt. 'Failure to make full payment or use the above remedies may result in the following actions and possibly others. SARS may appoint any third party who presently or in the future will owe you money. Or hold money for you to settle your tax debt with this money. 'A civil judgment is being entered against you. In which case a warrant of execution may be issued for the sheriff of the court to attach and sell your assets.' With the situation escalating, Sirino now faces a crucial decision, comply or risk public asset seizure and legal embarrassment. As pressure mounts, all eyes are on the midfielder and how he'll respond to this multi-million rand scandal. What should the Kaizer Chiefs star do? Orlando Pirates eyeing highly-rated youngster amid Saleng saga!

Orlando Pirates have already made themselves busy ahead of the upcoming offseason window, and it seems the next player in their sights is Zimbabwean 16-year-old Prince Ndlovu. 'He (Ndlovu) trained with Pirates in March 2023 and and at that time he was only 16-years-old. He was preparing to go to Europe but things didn't work out,' a source revealed. 'It's believed that since then Pirates scouts have apparently been monitoring him and now they are willing to give him a chance at the team. They have kept tabs on him and they are impressed by his progress at Highlanders FC in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.' Monnapule Saleng's future at Orlando Pirates seems to have passed the point of no return following nearly six months on the sideline amid salary demands that club refused to meet. The latest news on the winger's future points to a shock move to Kaizer Chiefs, with whom he has reportedly signed a pre-contract with, however, this is yet to be confirmed. Sowetan legend Benedict Vilakazi doesn't approve of this move for the 27-year-old, saying, 'Is he (Saleng) that type of a player that can really play for Chiefs, the way they are playing? I don't think so.' 'An example, look at (Gaston) Sirino [at Kaizer Chiefs], he's no more the Sirino we knew at Sundowns, because of the type of players surrounding him.' 'What's happening to Sirino now, is the same thing that happened to Khama Billiat. The same thing that happened to Keagan Dolly and now it's happening to Sirino, you cannot have Sirino alone and not have other good players surrounding him.' 'Obviously he's going to have a lot on his shoulders. So, he needs support. So even if Saleng goes and plays for Kaizer Chiefs, he's going to struggle like Sirino is struggling, because there's no core at Chiefs that is very strong, that when everyone comes in (they fit in) like puzzles. Those pazzles at Chiefs are scattered.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Orlando Pirates transfer news: Saleng, Mofokeng, Rulani, Mayele

Orlando Pirates will likely be the busiest when the transfer window opens after a disappointing season. Although the Buccaneers did not have a poor season overall, their lack of consistency only saw them win the MTN8. The club have already parted ways with Miguel Timm and Innocent Maela last month. Another player rumoured to leave is winger Monnapula Saleng. The 27-year-old has not kicked a ball in Bucs colours since December. Orlando Pirates legend Benedict Tso Vilakazi said Saleng can help rivals Kaizer Chiefs if he decides to jump ship and joins rivals. 'Is he (Saleng) that type of a player that can really play for Chiefs, the way they are playing? I don't think so. An example, look at (Gaston) Sirino, he's no more the Sirino we knew at (Mamelodi) Sundowns, because of the type of players surrounding him,' he said on Omniaaudioafrica . 'What's happening to Sirino now, is the same thing that happened to Khama Billiat. The same thing that happened to Keagan Dolly and now it's happening to Sirino, you can't have Sirino alone and not have other good players surrounding him. 'Obviously he's going to have a lot on his shoulders. So he needs support. So even if Saleng goes and plays for Chiefs, he's going to struggle like Sirino is struggling, because there's no core at Chiefs that is very strong, that when everyone come in (they fit in) like puzzles. Those puzzles at Chiefs are scattered,' Vilakazi concluded. Another player that could leave Orlando Pirates is Relebohile Mofokeng. The 20-year-old has been the club's best player this past season and has been linked to several European teams in the past. Regarding players coming in, the Buccaneers have inquired about several PSL players, including Thabang Matuludi. Given how their CAF Champions League campaign ended, it's not a surprise that Pirates are linked with Pyramids striker Fiston Mayele. The Congolese star inspired the Egyptians to their first-ever CAF Champions League title. With Jose Riveiro having left the ship last month, the Buccaneers have the task of finding his replacement. The Spaniard spent three seasons at Pirates, winning five trophies with the Soweto giants. Former Wydad Casablanca head coach Rulani Mokwena is one of the favourites for the job. The 38-year-old coach has managed Orlando Pirates before in 2019 but his spell was less memorable.
