RedBud Motocross betting, predictions, lines: Chase Sexton return makes Eli Tomac's odds compelling

The return of Chase Sexton to the lineup for the RedBud Nationals had a ripple effect through the opening odds for Round 6 of the Pro Motocross season in Buchanan, Michigan. Last week at The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts, Jett Lawrence made two statement rides, easily outperforming the field in both motos. The most likely outcome of that domination would have been that Jett's odds at RedBud would have lengthened, but with Sexton's return and the increased competition, he became slightly more attractive, moving from -380 to minus -307. Wagering $300 for the chance to win $100 is still a risky proposition, but betting odds often provide a unique perspective on the relative strength of the field. Sexton's return also impacted Eli Tomac's odds, making him an attractive bet both in reference to the outright win and to score a podium. Tomac has averaged an opening line of about 5/2 during the past four Nationals, but the traders at Alt Sports Data, the official linemaker for the SuperMotocross Championship, are showing very little faith in the veteran. His outright win odds moved substantially from +242 last week to +833 for RedBud. Tomac also sports positive odds for a podium at +127. While the increased line has as much to do with the traders' opinion that Jett is virtually unbeatable, Tomac fell from being the third-most attractive rider in their eyes to his being fourth. Alt Sports is not quite willing to place Sexton in the second slot this week. That honor goes to Hunter Lawrence (+451), who finished second in both Southwick motos. His steady performance during the past several weeks has awakened the traders to his potential as Hunter had nearly 400 points shaved from his line compared to Southwick's +841. The surprise of the week may well be Sexton landing third on the chart. His odds of +590 provide a lot of upside if Jett makes a mistake and Sexton is truly prepared for his return. After Jett's departure from the lineup last year before the RedBud Nationals, Sexton swept the season and won the Motocross championship. His prospectus against a healthy Jett is not as promising, however, and he finished behind him in every race they have contested with the sole exception of Jett's crash last year at Hangtown. Aaron Plessinger (+1888) is fifth on the chart this week despite failing to score an overall top-five at Southwick. That sandy track did not suit his riding style and he struggled, but that will increase his desire to rebound during the weekend when his teammate, Sexton, returns to the lineup. Few expect Plessinger to win, but with a line of +213 to podium, a modest wager could be made. Another podium bet worth considering is for Jorge Prado (+13414 for outright win) who had a raw opening line of +1786 to stand somewhere on the box. Prado earned his first overall top-five last week at The Wick but he contended for podiums in both races. Justin Cooper (+2733) narrowly kept his top-five streak alive last week. He is the only other rider under 100/1 for the outright win. Bettors who favor a deep strategy might wish to place a modest wager on him. Southwick Motocross 2025 preview: Top finishes, previous winners, historic results, who to watch

Following an off-week in the schedule, the 2025 Pro Motocross series heads to The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts, to play in the sandbox for Round 5. Jett Lawrence is the defending champion of this race, which is part of an incredible 19 overall victories in 20 Pro Motocross rounds. However, this race will be the last time in 2025 that this distinction will hold true. Last year, Jett injured his thumb in a practice crash following the Southwick event and missed the remainder of the season, only to return and win two of the three SuperMotocross Championship rounds and the championship. Dan Beaver, Jett's sweep of the motos last week moves his total to 34 of 40 races. NBC Sports analyst Ricky Carmichael has the most wins on this track with eight, while second-place Jeff Stanton has four. The winningest active rider is Eli Tomac, who sits third on the chart with three. He could move up one spot to tie Stanton for second on the list, or the more likely alternative is that Jett will move up one position and tie Tomac for third. A Remarkable Headline However, regardless of those outcomes, this will be a special race, as this venue often favors dark horses. Jett and Eli are the only riders in the field with multiple overall victories, and 16 others have one each. Dylan Ferrandis is included in that list, but the vast majority of the field has not yet won at The Wick. Justin Cooper and Aaron Plessinger are poised to capitalize on the egalitarian nature of this venue. Fans should add Hunter Lawrence's name to that list as he is one of five riders who have swept the top five in the first four rounds alongside Jett, Tomac, Plessinger, and Cooper. And Hunter is tired of finishing second, having done so seven times in his career without an overall victory. RJ Hampshire is the only other rider with four top-10s to his credit in 2025. Remarkably, in three seasons — one of which was shortened by injury — Jett has already moved to 10th on the all-time 450 Motocross wins list. If he scores the overall victory this week, he will tie James Stewart and Jeff Stanton for eighth. 250 Notes Haiden Deegan looks to defend his 2024 Southwick victory, a task made easier by the departure of Chance Hymas following an ACL injury last week at High Point. Deegan has dominated the first four rounds with two 'perfect' days. He was the fastest qualifier and swept motos in two rounds (Hangtown and High Point), marking the first time that has been accomplished since Dylan Ferrandis in 2020. All three of Deegan's victories this season came after he swept the motos. But winning back-to-back races at The Wick is difficult. In the past 11 rounds on this track, there have been 11 different winners, according to Jo Shimoda could emerge as Deegan's fiercest competitor this week. Southwick is his best track with four podiums in four rounds. In that span, he's accumulated two moto wins, but they came in the past two seasons in the second race of the day after he experienced terrible starts. Shimoda was 6-1 in 2023 and 9-1 last year before finishing third overall. He'll need to get off the gate quickly in Moto 1 this week to reverse the trend. Motocross 2025 250 results, highlights, finish at Thunder Valley: Haiden Deegan completes third sweep

At High Point Raceway in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania, Haiden Deegan swept the weekend motos for the third time this season to extend his Pro Motocross and SuperMotocross Championship points lead. Deegan swept the first two weekends, but last week, Chance Hymas reset the bar with a perfect weekend. Not to be outdone, Deegan led all 33 laps of the two races, but failed to match Hymas' feat of earning both holeshots. Nate Thrasher earned the holeshot in Moto 1; Tom Vialle held that distinction in Moto 2. Of primary importance was the championship standings. Deegan now holds a 42-point lead over Jo Shimoda in Pro Motocross and a 100-point advantage over him in the combined SuperMotocross 250 standings. Click here for a recap of High Point Vialle has had an erratic season, and when he finished fourth in Moto 1, it appeared that would continue into the High Point weekend. He lost the lead in the second race, but firmly held onto a podium position and passed Hymas for second on the final lap. With those results, Vialle earned his second Nationals podium of 2025 after finishing 4-3 for third overall in the season opener in Pala, California. Levi Kitchen was third overall at High Point, but it was a tale of two motos. He rode to a solid second-place finish in Moto 1 before struggling to finish sixth in the second race. Fortunately for him, the next three riders were equally erratic. Relive Moto 1 Hymas had a strong start to his weekend with fast times in both qualification sessions, but he failed to live up to expectations when the gate dropped. A horrible start of 13th in Moto 1 forced him to ride through the pack, and he showed speed by climbing to fifth. He slotted into second on Lap 1 of Moto 2, but never seriously challenged the leader and lost that position with one lap remaining. Fifth place belonged to Garrett Marchbanks. No one would have given low odds for that happening after he finished seventh in Moto 1, but his fourth-place finish in the second race tied him in points with Shimoda. Marchbanks finished one position ahead of the Japanese rider to earn the tiebreaker. Shimoda showed consistency with a 6-5 to finish just outside the top five in sixth. Seth Hammaker had a solid start to the afternoon with his podium finish (third) in Moto 1. He faded in the second race and finished 14th, spoiling what had been a strong day. Motocross 2025 450 results, highlights, finish at Thunder Valley: Jett Lawrence sweeps again

Jett Lawrence withstood pressure in both motos of Round 3 of the Pro Motocross season, Round 20 of the SuperMotocross Championship, before prevailing to sweep Thunder Valley Motocross Park in Lakewood, Colorado. While Jett was credited with leading all 16 laps of Moto 1, he was briefly passed on course by Aaron Plessinger on Lap 13, marking one of the few times during his young MX career that he has relinquished the lead while under power. In Moto 2, Jett was in fifth place at the end of Lap 1 and forced to ride through the field, which he did just shy of the halfway mark. In the second half of the race, he had to contend with Eli Tomac before the hometown hero tucked a wheel and crashed. The competition is slowly closing the gap on a rider who has every Pro Motocross overall he's entered except for last year's Round 2 in the Hangtown Motocross Classic. Click here for a recap of Thunder Valley Tomac is not prone to making mistakes, but when Jett is the competition, it forces riders to take chances they would typically avoid. Tomac knew which section of the track on which he was able to gain on Jett and get the best propulsion through the corner. He entered that corner with too much speed and was too low on the track on Lap 13. He tucked his wheel and lost seven seconds picking up his bike. Tomac had a big enough gap on third-place Justin Cooper to maintain his position and finished second overall with a 3-2. Aaron Plessinger kept his streak of top-five finishes in motos alive with results of second in the first race and fifth in Moto 2. The highlight of the round was his battle with Jett and the realization that his pace has picked up enough to allow him to challenge at the very top of the chart. In the post-race news conference, Plessinger said it's only a matter of time before he wins. Relive Moto 1 Even with his pair of top-five finishes in Thunder Valley's motos, Cooper lost a little momentum last week. On a rutty track on which it wasn't easy to pass, Cooper's sixth-place start contributed to a fifth-place finish in the first moto. He led laps 3 through 7 before getting shuffled back to third, but he lost pace once Jett and Tomac completed their passes. Hunter Lawrence rounded out the top five with fourth-place results in both motos. Hunter led the first lap of Moto 2, lost the position to Cooper on Lap 2, and was passed by Jett and Tomac on Lap 6. Once there, he finished ahead of Plessinger but gave up too many points in Moto 1 to score ahead of the Red Bull rider in the overall standings. 2025 SuperMotocross tickets on sale, track maps revealed

Tickets for the 2025 SuperMotocross (SMX) Championship races are currently on-sale for SMX Priority Members and will go on sale to the general public beginning February 4, 2025 at The three-round SuperMotocross Championship kicks off September 6 at zMax Dragway in Concord, North Carolina, followed by Round 2 at The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 13, and concluding at The Strip at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway on September 20. This will be the third time the playoffs have kicked off at zMax in the three-year history of the playoffs. This is the second time the series has concluded in Las Vegas, while St. Louis represents a new venue. Jett Lawrence (450s) and Haiden Deegan(250s) are each two-time defending champions of the SMX Championship. Additionally, the SuperMotocross League revealed track maps for the three venues. zMax Dragway 2025 SuperMotocross Round 1, zMax Dragway Feld Entertainment Located near Charlotte Motor Speedway, zMax Dragway's layout takes advantage of the four-wide dragstrip and land adjacent to the track to create a massive layout. The track features a split lane that always creates excitement as the two lanes come together. Lawrence won Round 1 in 2024 via a tiebreaker with Eli Tomac. Each rider won one of the two motos; Lawrence was successful in Race 2. Sweeping the two motos, Deegan won the 250 race over his principal 2025 rival, Julien Beaumer. North Carolina is the East Coast destination for the SMX playoffs. The Dome at America's Center The Dome at America's Center will host its first SMX playoff race but has a long history of Monster Energy Supercross competition after hosting races since 1996. The unique feature of this track is that it not only utilizes the full footprint of the stadium but will leave the floor and continue into the adjacent Exhibition Hall. This large footprint allows track builders to create a motocross-inspired course. St. Louis represents the Midwest in the playoffs in 2025. Last year, this round was contested at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, with Hunter Lawrence (1-3) victorious in the 450 division and Deegan sweeping the 250 class once again. The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Las Vegas was the host city of last year's SMX Playoff finale as dirt bike racing returned to a venue with deep roots in the sport. Like zMax Dragway, the track boasts four dragstrip lanes, so track designers have plenty of room to create a unique course. That is where the similarity between the two tracks ends, however, with the course leaving the strip at the top, meandering behind a second set of grandstands, and continuing into the bottom of the layout. Lawrence secured his second SMX title in style by sweeping the two 450 motos. In the 250 division, Pierce Brown earned his first series win with finishes of second and first in the two motos. Deegan won Moto 2 and finished second in the finale, which was more than sufficient to wrap up his title.
