Panchamasali Trust mulls alternative to seer in Kudalasangama

Hubballi: Vijayanand Kashappanavar, president of Akhil Bharata Lingayat Panchamasali Trust, said they are considering appointing an alternative pontiff for the Lingayat Panchamasali Peetha Kudalasangama. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Kashappanavar said the trustees have not asked Basavajaya Mruthyunjaya Swami to relinquish the post of pontiff. "However, as swamiji himself expressed his intention to establish his own mutt on the banks of River Malaprabha, we are planning to appoint another seer soon. Community members are disappointed by his behaviour," he added. His statement follows an open rift with Swami in recent months. He mentioned that a "great leader" purchased land for the peetha between Hubballi and Belagavi. "Swamiji can establish his mutt on the banks of River Malaprabha or between Hubballi and Belagavi. We have no objections. We will appoint an alternative seer to spread Basava philosophies. A decision will be made in a trustees' meeting to be held soon," he stated. He recalled that Swami was appointed in 2008 for the development of Panchamasali community and to spread the philosophies of Basava and other sharanas. However, he forgot those aspects and became involved in recommending transfers of govt officials and employees. "He pursued publicity. According to the trust bylaws, swamijis are not allowed to own properties. Yet, he owns two houses in Belagavi, and one each in Hubballi and Bengaluru. The trust issued a notice to him in 2019, and he apologised for it. He rarely stays in the peetha. Whenever he was there, some illicit activities occurred with some miscreants. Suspicious of his activities, we installed CCTV cameras there," he claimed. When asked about the incident of locking the peetha in Kudalasangama, Kashappanavar said it was to protect the peetha. "Swamiji broke the lock through someone and felicitated them for doing so. Swamiji is sitting under a party banner and speaking in favour of only one person," he alleged. Another Panchamasali leader, Neelakanth Asuti, alleged that Swami had not visited Kudalasangama for long.

HC interim stay on closure of Jan Aushadi centres welcome: LoP

Bengaluru: 'I welcome the interim stay order issued by the High Court regarding the closure of Jan Aushadhi centres. The government, which succumbed to the private lobby, has now faced a setback', said Opposition Leader R. Ashok. Speaking at a press conference, he said the High Court has issued an interim stay order on the closure of Jan Aushadhi centres. 'The BJP had fought against this decision. The government closed Jan Aushadhi centres to favour private medical pharmacies. The government, which bowed to the private lobby, has now faced a setback. The Health and Medical Education Minister must now understand what people need and work accordingly'. 'Government hospitals are required to provide 260-270 medicines, but such a quantity is not available. Medicines are available at discounted rates at Jan Aushadhi centres. Recently, during a visit to Hassan hospital, I found only one cardiologist. In an emergency related to heart conditions, they administer an injection and send patients to Bengaluru. Closing Jan Aushadhi centres in such a situation would cause significant problems', he said. 'Terrorists are being facilitated even in jails. The Home Department is completely defunct. The state government must immediately deport Bangladeshi and Pakistani citizens. A special task force should be formed for this purpose. Vote-bank politics should not be played here. Steps must be taken to monitor prisoners' movements, and the use of mobile phones in jails should be prevented', he demanded. 'Rambhapuri Jagadguru has expressed his opinion. When lakhs of devotees visit, he expresses their sentiments. That's what Swamiji has conveyed. The government is announcing guarantees every day, but there's no money to transport rice, leading to a lorry strike. Giving guarantees while keeping all bills pending is of no use. Even though free bus services are provided, schoolchildren have to walk. Swamiji has said that people should be given a self-reliant life', he noted. 'B.K. Hariprasad has insulted the oppressed communities. In the BJP, we don't announce presidents based on hereditary succession. Elections are not held in Congress, but the BJP follows democracy', he said.

Seer accuses Minister of demanding commission for releasing temple grant

Seer accuses Minister of demanding commission for releasing temple grant a serious allegation that could embarrass the state government, Sri Poornanandapuri Swamiji of the Shrikhetra Taileshwara Ganiga Mahasansthana Mutt in Nelamangala has accused Karnataka minister Shivaraj Tangadagi of demanding a 25 percent commission to release a government grant sanctioned for temple renovation. According to Swamiji, a grant of Rs 3.5 crore has already been approved for the mutt's renovation works. However, the seer alleged that Minister Tangadagi asked for a commission to release the funds. The seer has now written a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urging him to remove Shivaraj Tangadagi from the cabinet for his alleged corrupt practices. In his letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Swamiji expressed gratitude to Siddaramaiah for generously sanctioning grants for the development of various backward community institutions across Karnataka. However, he accused the minister of misusing the system by flouting norms and manipulating the distribution of grants without any transparency. 'The files related to grants, which are legally approved by you (CM), the finance department, and the secretary of the backward classes welfare department, are being withheld by the minister. He decides who should receive the grants at his own discretion and distributes them through his close associates, enabling corruption. There are also widespread reports that his relatives are operating this corruption network,' Swamiji wrote in the letter. The seer further said that lack of transparency and selective favoritism in grant allocation itself is clear evidence of corruption. 'We were forced to approach the High Court to get justice for the injustice done to our institution,' he added. Highlighting his long association with the Congress party, Poornanandapuri Swamiji reminded Siddaramaiah that he had served as an MLA and as state president of the backward communities' organization back in 1992, along with holding various posts for 35 years. 'Out of loyalty to the party, we did not want to embarrass the government and had already written to the minister on January 20, 2025, informing him about our intention to approach the court if the injustice continued,' the letter stated. Swamiji claimed that he had already brought the issue of alleged irregularities within the backward classes welfare department to the Chief Minister's notice. He requested that the CM take immediate action by removing Shivaraj Tangadagi from the cabinet to prevent further corruption. Issuing a stern warning in his letter, Swamiji said, 'If no action is taken within the next 10 days, we will be forced to initiate legal proceedings under the anti-corruption law against the minister. This is a matter of public trust, and we hope you will take suitable action to protect the dignity of the government.' The allegations have come at a time when the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government is facing increased pressure to maintain clean governance. Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi has yet to issue a statement in response to these serious allegations.

Swami Vivekananda ignited sense of pride, confidence in history and cultural heritage: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid heartfelt homage to Swami Vivekananda on his death anniversary. Taking to his X handle, PM Modi, who is on a five-nation tour, paid tributes to the revered Hindu monk. He said that Swami Vivekananda's thoughts and vision for our society remain our guiding light. 'I bow to Swami Vivekananda Ji on his Punya Tithi. His thoughts and vision for our society remains our guiding light. He ignited a sense of pride and confidence in our history and cultural heritage. He also emphasised on walking the path of service and compassion,' wrote PM Modi on X. Swami Vivekananda passed away on this day in 1902. He was a philosopher, monk, and nationalist, and advocated for fearless living and spiritual awakening. His teachings remain deeply relevant in India's socio-political landscape. His words continue to inspire generations, reminding people of the power of togetherness and harmony. Swami Vivekananda, on May 1, 1897, founded the Ramakrishna Mission. The motto was to spread the ideals of his Guru, Sri Ramakrishna. His iconic speech at the World's Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893 continues to inspire generations. He introduced India's age-old message of unity, peace and brotherhood to the world. Swamiji's famous quote, "Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached", remains a powerful call to action meant to encourage individuals, particularly the youth, to be proactive, persistent, and dedicated in pursuing their goals. It emphasises the importance of self-awareness, motivation, and unwavering commitment to achieve success. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while paying his tributes to the Swami, said that he was the pioneer of the renaissance of Indian wisdom, philosophy, and cultural pride. 'On one hand, Swami Ji inspired the countrymen towards spiritual advancement, while on the other, he awakened moral strength and self-confidence in the youth. Swami Vivekananda, who re-established the prestige of Indian knowledge tradition on the global stage, called upon the youth to arise, awake, and not stop until the goal is achieved. The ideas of Swami Vivekananda, who considered education the cornerstone of social development, will always remain guiding lights in the direction of nation-building," wrote HM Shah on X in Hindi (loosely translated). Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid his respects to the great Swami. 'He is an inspiration not only for India but for the youth of the entire world. We are all fully committed to fulfilling his dream of building a prosperous and progressive India,' wrote Singh on X. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took the occasion to mention the efforts she has undertaken to preserve the Swamiji's house. She wrote on X, 'The message of universal brotherhood and peace that Swamiji gave remains equally relevant today. The Hinduism that Swamiji believed in is the same one I believe in - and that religion says that the religion of humanity is the greatest. Inspired by Swami Vivekananda's ideals, I wish that the people of Bengal, the people of the country, irrespective of religion, caste, or class, will respect and love one another – this is my desire.'
