T-Mobile discontinues fan-favorite perk

By Published: | Updated: T-Mobile customers have been left furious at the end of one of their favorite perks, which was promised to last a 'lifetime.' Customers of the phone provider currently have discounted access to streaming service Philo TV. Philo TV offers its subscribers access to around 70 live channels as well as a DVR which allows customers to record TV shows for up to a year. 'Don't worry, your discount will be applied to your T-Mobile bill instead of your Philo TV bill. The $10/mo credit, for up to 24 months, will appear within 1-2 billing cycles,' the notice explained. Outraged customers pointed out that the discounted bills will only last for a maximum of two more years, despite the initial promise being for as long as 'you remain an active T-Mobile subscriber and Philo customer.' 'So much for "for life". I will be cancelling my Philo service,' one outraged T-Mobile subscriber wrote on Reddit. 'I'm pretty disappointed in Philo and T-Mobile for not honoring this discount for life. What a joke,' another agreed. 'Ouch that is going to suck.... hard to justify Hallmark movies for $20/month,' a third opined. Other customers drew comparisons with an earlier T-Mobile deal that offered YouTube subscriptions at a discount but was later quietly withdrawn. It comes after T-Mobile customers were recently threatened with price hikes as a result of Trump's tariffs. 'If [tariffs] come in and they're significant... that's going to have to be borne by the customer,' CEO Mike Sievert warned in April. Earlier that month the network's app used by parents to track their children's location suffered a terrifying meltdown. The app is paired with a small GPS device, called SyncUP, which fits inside a child's backpack and allows parents to keep an eye on their kids through the T-Life app. Some parents who logged into the app found they could no longer see where their kids were. To make matters worse, parents realized they could see the exact, real-time locations of other random children across the country. Last year T-Mobile also suffered a major outage that saw thousands of customers unable to make calls or send messages for hours. A second major technical failure occurred a month later after four cellular towers were knocked out in Utah.

T-Mobile customers furious as 'lifetime' benefit is phased out: 'I will be cancelling'

T-Mobile customers have been left furious at the end of one of their favorite perks, which was promised to last a 'lifetime.' Customers of the phone provider currently have discounted access to streaming service Philo TV. Philo TV offers its subscribers access to around 70 live channels as well as a DVR which allows customers to record TV shows for up to a year. For years T-Mobile customers have enjoyed a $10 discount on Philo's usual $28-a-month bill. However, the deal will soon be rescinded, and T-Mobile customers are calling out the fine print. 'For current T-Mobile customers, the way your monthly Philo discount appears is changing,' the phone provider wrote in a notice to customers last month. 'Don't worry, your discount will be applied to your T-Mobile bill instead of your Philo TV bill. The $10/mo credit, for up to 24 months, will appear within 1-2 billing cycles,' the notice explained. Outraged customers pointed out that the discounted bills will only last for a maximum of two more years, despite the initial promise being for as long as 'you remain an active T-Mobile subscriber and Philo customer.' T-Mobile's satellite service officially launches in July

After spending the first half of the year in beta testing, T-Mobile's Starlink-powered satellite service will go public on July 23rd. While it will only include messaging at launch, the company has some ambitious plans to expand the service before the end of the year. When it goes live next month, 'T-Satellite' will be available as an included service with just one T-Mobile plan — Experience Beyond — and will otherwise cost $10 per month. Like the beta service, it will be available to anyone in the US, not just T-Mobile customers. At launch, T-Satellite will only include SMS on Android and iOS, as well as MMS on Android. T-Mobile says that MMS on iOS is 'to follow.' And on October 1st, its satellite connectivity will get another upgrade: data. But don't expect to be able to use every app on your phone in a dead zone just yet. The company has a handful of app makers that it 'anticipates' will enable satellite data connectivity, including AllTrails, Accuweather, and WhatsApp. The announcement also names Apple and Google as partners, but doesn't list specific apps from either company. T-Mobile's approach to satellite connectivity looks a little different from the competition's. Verizon and AT&T have both partnered with AST SpaceMobile to provide satellite service to customers. Earlier this year, the companies demonstrated cell-to-satellite calling. Of the two, only Verizon has introduced messaging for customers — and it's limited to certain Android phones at the moment. Verizon and AT&T have taken issue with T-Mobile and Starlink's parent company, SpaceX, claiming its satellite implementation will hamper their efforts. It doesn't seem like those complaints have slowed Starlink and T-Mobile down.

T-Mobile users get new Starlink toggle as public rollout approaches

T-Mobile's Starlink-powered satellite messaging service is in beta right now and free for everyone. Once it launches in July, everyone but customers on T-Mobile 's expensive plans will have to pay for it. Customers enrolled in the beta program have spotted a new toggle that may come in handy after the public communication can be a vital lifeline when natural disasters knock down land-based networks or when you are in a dead zone with no cellular signals. T-Mobile 's T-Satellite feature will remain free only for Go5G Next, Experience More, and Experience Beyond customers after June. Everyone else, including AT&T and Verizon customers, will be charged a monthly fee. For T-Mobile customers on older plans, the service is going to cost $15 per month, though beta users get a discount of $5. AT&T and Verizon customers will be able to use T-Mobile 's satellite service for $10 a month. AT&T and Verizon have also launched their satellite feature but on a limited scale. T-Mobile users can easily opt-out of the satellite feature. | Image Credit - pinoy_dude24 According to an image shared by a T-Mobile user, customers will be able to enable and disable the satellite feature easily. This means that you won't have to worry about paying for this add-on during the month when you might not need the feature. For instance, you may activate it when severe weather is expected or when you know you will be going to areas with weak or spotty signals. That's a smart move by T-Mobile , considering even though this can potentially be a life-saving feature, most users might not be able to justify paying it for every month when they know they are hardly going to use it. The outdoorsy types who frequently visit places with no cellular coverage can, of course, keep it on at all times. Right now, only texting is supported and data support is expected this year. Voice capabilities will also be updated down the line.

T-Mobile will give you a free 2024 Motorola Edge in return for your beaten and battered device

If you hate the sight of your old phone taking up space in your drawer but don't know what to do with it, T-Mobile has a solution. The carrier is reportedly giving customers the Motorola Edge 2024 for free in return with all sorts of trade-in. The best thing about this T-Mobile offer is that the only requirement is that you trade in an old phone. Unlike its new iPhone 16 Pro deal, it doesn't exclude customers who are not on its new plans. You also don't need to bring your number over from another carrier. It also doesn't require you to pay for one device like a recent BOGO deal. All you have to do is find an old and unused phone lying around in your house. You don't even have to inspect the phone to find out if it satisfies the trade-in conditions because there are none. This deal is seemingly for all T-Mobile customers and is currently underway. Just bring the phone that's collecting dust somewhere in your house to T-Mobile and a free Motorola Edge 2024 is yours. You will have to pay for the phone when buying it but the cost will be reimbursed via bill credits over 24 months. If you are staying with T-Mobile for the foreseeable future, you should consider the deal. The Motorola Edge 2024 has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and it launched for a price tag of $549.99. The price remains the same on Motorola's website but T-Mobile sells it for $299.99. The Motorola Edge 2024 is a very decent mid-tier phone. It features a large and bright 6.6-inch screen with an industry-leading refresh rate of 144Hz for fast scrolling and buttery smooth packs a 5,000mAh battery and should easily last you more than a day. The device supports 68W wired charging and will go from empty to full in about one and a half though it has a huge screen and a big battery, it's slim and light, so it won't strain your hands after accidental hours-long doom-scrolling sessions. Another area in which it's up there with the best phones available right now is its IP68 dust and water protection rating. The device also supports T-Mobile's Starlink-fueled satellite messaging feature. Granted, the Motorola Edge 2024 may not sound as exciting as a 2025 flagship, but then again, it's falling into your lap for nothing. Besides, you can always gift it to a family member who needs a new phone or keep it as a backup device.
