Lord Murugan will annihilate BJP in '26 polls: TNCC president Selvaperunthagai
COIMBATORE: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K Selvaperunthagai launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing the party of promoting communal politics and undermining Tamil identity.
Speaking to reporters at the Coimbatore airport on Sunday, he said, 'Tamil God Murugan will perform a 'Soorasamharam' (divine annihilation) of the BJP in the 2026 Assembly elections.'
He accused the BJP of trying to manipulate religious sentiments for political gain, particularly through the recent announcement of the 'Murugan maanadu' in Madurai.
'Why is there a need for such a conference? Just like they politicised Lord Ram in Ayodhya, they are now trying to do the same with Murugan in Tamil Nadu. Even Lord Ram has distanced himself from the BJP. Lord Murugan belongs to Tamil soil and will reject those who betray Tamil values.'
Selvaperunthagai also criticised the BJP-led central government for attempting to impose Hindi and a three-language policy in Tamil Nadu.
'Under Congress, we upheld the two-language policy. Now, the BJP is trying to push a third language. They won't let people worship in Tamil and want Sanskrit-only rituals. How can Tamil God Murugan accept this?' he asked.

I have told all of them that we will put all their problems in front of the Chief Minister and we will try to ensure that they should not face any kind of trouble. I am confident that the Chief Minister will resolve their problems,' he added. Earlier in the day, Union Minister Chouhan planted a sapling in the smart city park in the state capital Bhopal as part of his pledge to plant a sapling everyday and also urged people to plant a sapling on their special occasions. 'As a part of the pledge to plant a sapling every day, I planted a sapling in the Smart City Park in Bhopal today. Trees and plants are extremely important for the prosperity of human life and the earth. Congress corners BJP over delay in implementation of 27 per cent OBC reservation in Madhya Pradesh
New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): Congress on Saturday cornered the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Madhya Pradesh for its wilful delay in providing 27 per cent reservation to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) despite the passing of the concerned legislation and clearing of the same by the courts. The party demanded the immediate implementation of 27 per cent reservations for OBCs in Madhya Pradesh, as it has been categorically cleared by the Supreme Court. Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, senior party leaders, including former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Madhya Pradesh Congress in-charge Harish Chaudhary, MP PCC president Jitu Patwari and AICC OBC Department Chairman Anil JaiHind alleged that the BJP was revealing its anti-reservation and anti-backwards classes mindset by deliberately delaying the reservation benefits to the OBCs. Harish Chaudhary stated that it was the Congress government that originally provided 14 per cent reservation to the OBCs in 1994. Later, in 2003, again, it was the Congress government that raised the quota to 27 per cent. However, after the elections, the BJP government was formed, and it never implemented the decision. He stated that after 16 years, when the Congress government was formed in 2019 under the leadership of Kamal Nath, it introduced an ordinance providing 27 per cent reservation for OBCs. However, the BJP challenged it in court, which then directed that a law be enacted on the matter. 'We subsequently got the bill passed in the Assembly.' He added that as the BJP formed the government again, it did not implement the OBC reservation bill. Chaudhary stated that the High Court dismissed the pleas against the 27 per cent reservations, and the BJP government subsequently approached the Supreme Court. He noted that the Supreme Court also upheld it and issued a notice to the MP government on June 25, inquiring why the 27 per cent reservation benefit for OBCs was not being implemented. Bhupesh Baghel, while accusing the BJP of having an anti-reservation mindset, disclosed that the Congress government in Chhattisgarh had unanimously passed a law in December 2022 to provide 27 per cent reservation to OBCs. However, the bill is yet to get the nod of the Governor. He said this is because the BJP does not want to provide 27 per cent reservations to the OBCs. He seconded Chaudhary's stand that not only will the Congress fight the issue legally, but it will also raise it publicly to build pressure on the BJP government to implement it. Jitu Patwari said that it was strange that Prime Minister Modi claims himself to be an OBC, and yet he was not providing the OBC community its rightful due. He said the OBC Chief Ministers of MP belonging to the BJP, like Uma Bharti, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Mohan Yadav, have all betrayed their community. Anil JaiHind maintained that the BJP and the RSS have always been against the reservation. Citing an example, he said the law on reservation for Dalits, OBCs and Adivasis in private educational institutions has been deliberately delayed by the BJP government since 2014. (ANI)

Siddaramaiah asked to choose between Ambedkar and Indira
Ranebennur, June 28 (UNI) In a scathing critique of the Congress-led government in Karnataka, former Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai today questioned Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's commitment to constitutional values, asking whether he stood for Dr BR Ambedkar's Constitution or Indira Gandhi's version that oversaw the Emergency. Speaking at an event titled "The Untold Stories of the Dark Days of Emergency" organised by Citizens for Social Justice, Bommai alleged that an undeclared emergency was in force in the state and warned that the Congress government would meet the same fate as Indira Gandhi's regime. "The state is slipping into a police raj," Bommai said, adding, "This is not governance, this is appeasement politics masquerading as administration." Recounting his memories from the Emergency era, Bommai said he and BJP leader Ananth Kumar had mobilised student protests in Hubballi-Dharwad in 1975. He recalled how students were arrested and how Ananth Kumar was jailed while seeking their release. "We didn't understand politics back then, but we understood freedom," he said, warning that similar authoritarian tendencies were visible again. He recalled how the Supreme Court verdict against Indira Gandhi in the 1970s should have led to her resignation, but instead, she imposed an Emergency. Thousands were jailed, including Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani and Yediyurappa, with over 4,000 cases filed against RSS members alone. "It was said back then—'Indira is India, and India is Indira'. Today, Congress leaders chant 'Sonia Mata Ki Jai' instead of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'," he said, alleging a culture of political slavery in the Congress. Taking a dig at Siddaramaiah, Bommai accused the CM of abandoning his past opposition to the Emergency for political convenience. "Siddaramaiah fought against Indira Gandhi once, now he defends the very family that tried to crush democracy," Bommai said, referring to Rahul Gandhi's symbolic use of the Constitution. Bommai also pointed out that the words 'secular' and 'socialist' were added to the Constitution during the Emergency for political appeasement. He cited RSS leader Dattatreya Hosabale's recent comment backing Ambedkar's original draft and urged Siddaramaiah to clarify his stand. "Do you support Ambedkar's Constitution or Indira Gandhi's amendments?" Bommai asked. Calling the current situation in Karnataka an 'undeclared emergency,' he said those who speak on sensitive issues are instantly slapped with cases. "Karnataka is not a police state. People's power will prevail over state power as it did in 1977," he asserted. On the political front, Bommai predicted midterm elections in Karnataka by 2026. "The sins of bad governance are overflowing. BJP will return with a people's mandate," he declared. Praising the Modi government, he said it had lifted 25 crore people out of poverty in the last 11 years. "To make India developed by 2047, we must protect democracy and the Constitution's core," he added, calling this a 'second freedom struggle' to safeguard civil liberties.
