Alex Cooper is booed by Cubs fans during bizarre rendition of ‘Take Me Out to the Ball Game'
Alex Cooper appeared to thoroughly enjoy herself during her seventh-inning stretch performance Sunday at Wrigley Field. Not everyone on hand for the Chicago Cubs' game against the St. Louis Cardinals seemed to feel the same way about the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast host's throaty, off-key and completely tongue-in-cheek rendition of 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game.' The MLB tradition of singing the classic tune between the top and bottom of the seventh inning was popularized by the legendary late Chicago White Sox and Cubs broadcaster Harry Caray, whose vocals weren't close to pristine but were unquestionably earnest. Cooper was cheered as she was announced over the loudspeaker as the latest guest to lead the stadium in the tradition. 'All right, Daddy Gang and Cubs fans are you ready? You've never seen something like this,' Cooper said with a laugh before launching into the song with the intro made famous by Caray: 'Ah one! Ah two! Ah three!' For many fans in attendance, the performance went downhill from there. Cooper belted out the song in an unnaturally low key and overly dramatic fashion, laughing often as she and two companions attempted to accompany the vocal performance with a few dance moves. For what might have been intended as a big finish, the backup dancers attempted to hoist Cooper onto their shoulders. Cooper was clearly having a blast. And to be clear, a number of folks at the stadium could be heard singing along as they would during any seventh inning stretch. But as this clip from the performance shows, there were many others who expressed their displeasure with Cooper's intentionally bizarre performance. Cooper's appearance at Wrigley was part of the 'Big Al's Takeover' promotion, with fans who purchased a special ticket package receiving a commemorative Cubs jersey with Cooper's Unwell branding on the back. 'You don't want to miss Alex lead the crowd in 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame' during the seventh-inning stretch,' an article on the Cubs website had promised. A number of fans seem to wish that they had.

Alex Cooper mercilessly booed at Wrigley Field after rendition of ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame'
Baseball fans were less than impressed with Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper's rendition of 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame' at Sunday's fixture between the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals. The podcaster, 30, was invited to perform the baseball classic during the seventh-inning stretch at Chicago's Wrigley Field. In clips of the moment shared on X, Cooper appeared on the jumbotron where she began with her famous line, 'Alright, Daddy Gang,' to get the crowd excited. She was initially met with loud cheers as the stadium sang along with her during the intro of the song. However, the support quickly descended into loud boos. Despite the crowd's unhappy response, Cooper maintained her composure and made it through the entire song laughing and smiling. Her performance luckily didn't sour Cubs fans' celebrations that night as the team went on to defeat the Cardinals 11-0. Footage of her performance has been shared widely on X, with one commenter noting: 'You know it's bad when you get booed during the stretch. Most get booed for a bad rendition of the National Anthem, but this is pathetic.' 'That was brutal,' a second wrote. Another, however, applauded her for doing it 'A cappella and without Auto-Tune.' 'I'll only say that she's a brave woman,' they added. 'The only question is whether she was drunk...' Alex Cooper @callherdaddy was booed through the entire 7th inning stretch for her Take me Out to the Ballgame rendition #wrigley #Cubs — MBDChicago (@MBDChicago) July 7, 2025 Cooper had originally been in the Windy City to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend with fans at an exclusive one-night party sponsored by her electrolyte drink Unwell Hydration and White Claw. She shared pictures from the evening on Instagram, alongside the caption: 'Unwell in Chicago.' Cooper rose to fame with her podcast Call Her Daddy, which she launched in 2018 with her then-friend and co-host Sofia Franklyn. The episodes became known for featuring candid conversations about sex, relationships, and personal experiences. The audio series has since evolved into a mammoth success for Cooper, who last August inked a multiyear deal with SiriusXM reportedly worth up to $125 million. Last month, Cooper released her two-part documentary, Call Her Alex, on Hulu. In the docuseries, she accused her former Boston University soccer coach of sexual harassment. Her alma mater responded to her allegations in a statement, saying: 'Boston University has a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment. We have a robust system of resources, support and staff dedicated to student wellbeing and a thorough reporting process through our Equal Opportunity Office. 'We encourage members of our community to report any concerns, and we remain committed to fostering a safe and secure campus environment for all.'

Alex Cooper booed by Cubs fans after ‘brutal' seventh-inning stretch performance
At least the Cubs were up 11-0 against the Cardinals when Alex Cooper got on the mic during Sunday's game in Chicago. The 'Call Her Daddy' podcast host was mercilessly booed when it was time to lead the crowd in singing 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game' during the seventh-inning stretch at Wrigley Field. 'You've never seen something like this before,' Cooper said before she belted out the lyrics in overly dramatic fashion. The boos only got louder as she continued her rendition of the classic baseball tune. Cooper, who couldn't contain her laughter, was lifted in the air by her two friends and backup dancers at the end of the performance. 4 Alex Cooper was booed while singing 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame' during the seventh-inning stretch at Wrigley Field during the Cubs-Cardinals game on Sunday, July 6, 2025. X Some said they were disappointed the Cubs and ESPN gave Cooper airtime. Others described the moment as 'cringey' and 'brutal' to watch as Cooper's cameo was aired on the Jumbotron. Barstool Sports, Cooper's former employer, posted the booing video on its social media. The Cubs maintained their 11-0 lead for the win. 4 Alex Cooper's appearance at the Cubs-Cardinals game on Saturday was all part of her 'Big Al's Takeover' with the Cubs. With the special ticket offer, fans received an exclusive, limited-edition souvenir jersey, which Cooper wore during the seventh-inning stretch Sunday. The day prior, Cooper threw a massive party with her Unwell company at Recess bar, where Dillon Francis DJ'd. Another viral moment came out of Wrigley Field this weekend when star New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara threw out the first pitch before Saturday's Cubs-Cardinals game. After a botched first attempt — Kamara threw the ball in the dirt and nearly outside the left batter's box — the five-time Pro Bowler redeemed himself on his second try. Cooper's takeover at Wrigley Field comes nearly one month after the premiere of her Hulu docuseries 'Call Her Alex.' In the two-part program, Cooper alleged she was sexually harassed by Boston University soccer coach Nancy Feldman as a member of the team in college. It was reported in June that Boston University said it would hire an external law group to look into the university's athletics department's policies in the wake of the claims.

Alex Cooper booed at Wrigley Field after off-key rendition of ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame'
Alex Cooper, host of the Call Her Daddy podcast, faced a wave of disapproval from the crowd at Wrigley Field on Sunday after her off-pitch rendition of Take Me Out to the Ballgame during the seventh-inning stretch. Cooper's enthusiastic delivery fell flat with Chicago Cubs fans, who responded with loud boos and social media criticism. Appearing during a game between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals, Cooper attempted to entertain the crowd but quickly lost favour. Alex Cooper was loudly booed during her Take Me Out To The Ballgame rendition at Wrigley tonight — Jomboy Media (@JomboyMedia) July 7, 2025 Fans compared her performance to other less-than-ideal renditions in Wrigley Field history, even ranking it below past infamous efforts by Mike Ditka and Ozzy Osbourne. 'Alex Cooper's Stretch wasn't Ditka or Ozzy Osbourne level bad. It was somehow worse because she was actually trying to do it that way,' one fan posted online. Another added, 'Just saw Alex Cooper get booed at Wrigley Field best day of my life.' Despite her popularity in the podcast world and a $60 million Spotify deal, Cooper struggled to connect with the baseball audience. Known for transforming Call Her Daddy into a solo brand after parting ways with former co-host Sofia Franklyn, Cooper has courted both acclaim and controversy in recent years. In 2024, she received criticism for a tightly managed interview with then-presidential candidate Kamala Harris, including a costly studio setup in Washington, DC. More recently, she threw the first pitch at Fenway Park—another high-profile sports moment met with mixed reactions.

Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer Calls Lamar Jackson the dual-threat G.O.A.T.
Illinois quarterback Luke Altmyer Calls Lamar Jackson the dual-threat G.O.A.T. It was officially "Illini Night" at Wrigley Field on Tuesday, as the Chicago Cubs defeated division rival Milwaukee 5-3. As part of the festivities, Illinois Fighting Illini quarterback Luke Altmyer got to have a very "how cool was that?!" moment- singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" alongside his head coach, Bret Bielema, during the seventh inning stretch. Before the baseball game, Altmyer met with the media at a Wrigley Field adjacent pub, and talked some football. Asked which NFL quarterbacks he follows and studies, Altmyer responded with a list that included Baltimore Ravens superstar Lamar Jackson. "The guys you watch are the guys I watch, to be honest," Altmyer said at the University of Illinois private party, staged at the Brickhouse Tavern. I watch (Patrick) Mahomes, (Joe) Burrow, (Josh) Allen, and Lamar for good reasons. They're the best at what they do. I watch them all really, and take a lot from each one of them. Mahomes is pretty box office, so when he's playing, I'm tuning in, and Lamar and Burrow and Allen, I take a little bit from each of their games." Altmyer, who transferred into Illinois from an SEC school (Ole Miss) and turned down multiple opportunities to return to the Southeastern Conference to stay in Champaign, completed 60% of his passes last season for 2,717 yards, 22 touchdown passes against just six interceptions. He then mentioned his top quarterback role model, and it happens to be somebody that Bielema coached at the University of Wisconsin. "But growing up, I think Russell Wilson, which is crazy coincidence, because that's Bielema's guy, so it's cool," Altmyer continued. "Because I mimic his game a little bit, being able to run a little bit, throw it well, and a winner, and a guy who carries himself with some great character. So I look up to him a lot." We naturally invited him to elaborate on Lamar, asking him point-blank if he's the dual-threat quarterback G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time). "Yeah, that's pretty understood," Altmyer responded. "When he came out of college, people were saying he's gonna be a receiver. "And his speed and his agility, his elusiveness, but I respect him so much because of the way he's grown his passing. "I don't watch him because he's so elusive, I mean that's just raw talent, but just the way he operates within the pocket and makes the right throw, the right reads and I really think he's underrated." There is certainly validity to the idea that Jackson, ranked the 6th best player in the league by CBS Sports this year, is underrated, despite all his accomplishments and accolades. He didn't win the MVP this past season, despite having the best statistical campaign of his career. Altmyer expounded on the Lamar is underrated idea: "Even as good as he is, as a two-time MVP, and I think he's still underrated, not because he can run, that's obvious, but the way he can make it happen, whatever possible way it takes."
