Gardaí were involved in a dramatic high-speed pursuit after a suspected drug-driver fled a checkpoint in Co Donegal. The driver was initially stopped at a checkpoint at Bridgend on the Donegal-Derry border in the early hours of Sunday morning and tested positive for cocaine Advertisement However, the driver then decided to flee the scene and drove off in a dangerous manner. Gardaí pursued the car and were then forced to deploy their stinger device to bring the vehicle and driver under control. "The vehicle was driven in a dangerous manner for a distance," said a garda spokesperson. "A stinger device was successfully deployed and it was located and seized a short time later." The driver is now expected to appear at a future sitting of the local District Court. A Garda spokesperson said the driver will also have to apply to the District Court Judge in order to get their vehicle back.

'Grossly inappropriate' speed In mitigation, the court heard Middleton, of Nelson Road in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, "acknowledged the devastation she has caused, not only to the Raynor family, but her own"."She wishes she could undo the harm," her defence counsel Simon Eckersley Eckersley said when Middleton approached the junction, her light was green, but said "plainly, she was going too fast".She was found to have an excess of benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, in her system when the crash Steven Coupland said: "I accept you did not set out to cause a collision but the reality is you should not have been said Middleton "chose to drive in an aggressive way at a speed that was grossly inappropriate" for that particular street."Had you been driving within the speed limit the collision may not have happened at all," he Coupland also disqualified Middleton from driving for four years, noting her previous lack of custodial sentences and clean driving record.

A TEENAGE boy has been killed by a suspected drug driver towing a trailer. The 14-year-old pedestrian sadly died at the scene. Cops are appealing for information and dash cam footage following the crash in the Waterlooville area of Portsmouth, Hampshire, at around 9pm yesterday. A local 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving whilst unfit through drugs and has been released under investigation. Cops said the boy was hit by a car "towing a trailer". His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. Police said: "As part of our investigation we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who has relevant dash cam footage capturing the incident or the moments leading up to it. 'Were you on Lovedean Lane around the time of the incident? Did you see the vehicle or pedestrian in the area before the collision?' JERTIH, June 29 — Two girls, aged three and 10, were among three people killed when a boat capsized off Pulau Perhentian last night. Besut police chief Supt Azamuddin Ahmad @ Abu identified the deceased in the 10.30 pm mishap as S. Arumugam, 40, his three-year-old daughter A. Sarrvihka, and a 10-year-old relative, V. Vennpani. He said 12 others in the boat, including a six-year-old who was in critical condition, were rushed to Besut Hospital for treatment. The boat, carrying 15 passengers, aged between three and 40 years, capsized during a storm, heavy rain and rough sea, he told a press conference at the Besut District Police Headquarters, here today. Azamuddin said that based on the investigation, all of them were not wearing life jackets. He said the boat driver, in his 20s, has been detained to assist in the investigation. The boat driver, who is a local, tested positive for drugs and has five records for drug-related offences, he added. He advised the public to prioritise the safety of their family members while at resort beaches. Boat operators, he said, should also prioritise tourist safety and comply with all regulations, especially regarding the mandatory use of life jackets. — Bernama
