Cagliari director on Zortea's future: 'We'll evaluate offers.'

Nadir Zortea is one of the profiles followed by Roma to strengthen the right flank. Newly appointed Cagliari sporting director Guido Angelozzi spoke about his possible transfer in this summer window. Speaking at a press conference to introduce himself to his new club, the executive of the Sardinian team made some statements regarding the market, focusing in particular on the right back. Advertisement 'Zortea is a strong player on whom there has been a significant investment, if an offer arrives we will evaluate it but the intention is to keep almost everyone.' 'Then we need to understand if the players want to stay or want to leave. You also have to listen to the complaints because I don't like players with stomach aches. Those who are in Cagliari must stay with the desire, those who don't have it we will evaluate what to do.'

Newcastle's transfer supremo search intensifies with ex-Arsenal chief a contender

Newcastle United have made Jason Ayto a serious candidate for their sporting director role following his departure from Arsenal at the end of the season. Ayto is seen as a prime contender at St James' Park to replace Paul Mitchell, who left his post after less than a year at the club. Newcastle have been assessing options with Ayto's reputation enhanced after a decade at the Emirates Stadium where he finished as interim sporting director. The 40-year-old worked under ex-Arsenal sporting director Edu before being promoted last season with his departure announced by the club after Andrea Berta's appointment. It is believed that Ayto was in the running for the position himself, with his notable successes including landing Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad despite intense competition. His role at Newcastle would be on recruitment of players for Eddie Howe, contracts for existing players and working closely with the manager on long-term strategy for the team. Newcastle have been looking to fill Mitchell's position since his shock departure in May, which came eight months after his criticism of the transfer policy under the previous regime. Howe had played an important role in that previous decision-making process that brought Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak, Nick Pope, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon to club – but the policy was branded by Mitchell as not 'fit for purpose'. Mitchell's close ally Darren Eales, Newcastle's CEO, is stepping down because of health reasons, which was one of the reasons for his departure. Newcastle have endured a frustrating transfer window so far and have yet to sign a player, with Bryan Mbeumo preferring a move to Manchester United over a switch to St James' Park. The club launched a triple swoop for Joao Pedro, James Trafford and Anthony Elanga but Pedro has opted to join Chelsea. Andy Howe has been working alongside Steve Nickson in their recruitment team. Ayto has experience working with Mikel Arteta and helped shape them into Premier League title contenders, with the relationship with Howe seen as a key factor in the appointment of a new sporting director. He is thought to have other admirers in the Premier League, as well as being in the final reckoning for the Newcastle job.

EXCLUSIVE Newcastle target rival Premier League chief for vacant sporting director role - as Magpies continue search for Paul Mitchell's successor

Nottingham Forest chief Ross Wilson is among the names in the frame for the sporting director vacancy at Newcastle, Mail Sport can reveal. Recruitment specialists Nolan Partners are leading the search for Paul Mitchell's replacement. He will leave at the end of June after less than a year in the role. Sources believe an appointment remains unlikely before then, but interviews are set to take place with several candidates. Wilson and former Arsenal assistant sporting director Jason Ayto are said to be among those who have had contact with Nolans. While no decision has been made and there are other names being considered, it is that of Wilson which appears to have some support internally. The 41-year-old has been Forest's sporting director and chief football officer since 2023 having previously held similar roles at Rangers and Southampton. He is well thought of within the game and is seen as a professional operator. Crucially, and this is the remit Nolans are working to, he has Premier League experience. Newcastle's owners are keen to learn by past mistakes, and the appointment of Mitchell by chief executive Darren Eales last summer was said to be rushed through after first choice Dougie Freedman turned down the club's offer. Mitchell is yet to sign a first-team player and his relationships with several staff have been uneasy from the point of his arrival. That is why the club will take their time in choosing the right successor, especially as Mitchell's predecessor, Dan Ashworth, also left abruptly for Manchester United last year. Ayto, 40, is another name mentioned in recent days, but it is not thought he yet has the experience for the role. In the meantime, recruitment chief Steve Nickson and assistant Andy Howe will assume greater responsibility, with Mitchell now less than three weeks from his departure date.

Wolves considering bringing in former Al Shabab sporting director Domenico Teti as part of recruitment overhaul

Wolves are considering a role for former Al Shabab sport director Domenico Teti as they overhaul their recruitment department. The future of sporting director Matt Hobbs is in doubt as coach Vitor Pereira is expected to take on a more hands on role at Molineux. Pereira worked with Teti previously in Saudi Arabia. Italian Teti held roles at Verona, Sampdoria, Lugano and Apoel Nicosia prior to joining Al Shabab in 2023. Talks are ongoing with the 48-year old, who left his job as Al-Shabab sporting director in October last year, now in contention to become technical director. Discussions are underway and understood to be progressing. Wolves were dragged into a relegation fight last season but the appointment of Pereira in December as new head coach following the sacking of Gary O'Neil saw the club comfortably avoid the drop. They are close to agreeing the sale of Rayan Ait Nouri to Manchester City and are among clubs to have checked on St Etienne forward Lucas Stassin.
