Over two million summonses unpaid, RM150 flat rate offer extended until Dec 31 as JPJ D-G warns of blacklisting

MELAKA, July 1 — The Special Compound Rate Payment Offer (flat rate) of RM150, which ended yesterday, has been extended until Dec 31, said Road Transport Department (JPJ) Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli. He said the extended offer applies to three categories of summonses — summonses issued under the Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) from October 2018 onwards, Notice 114 (notice to attend an inquiry), and Notice 115 (request for driver's details) issued in 2023 or earlier. 'As of yesterday, only 442,870 summonses have been settled under the Special Compound Rate Payment Offer (flat rate) introduced since Jan 2. 'According to our records, there are still 2.03 million unsettled summonses, with AWAS summonses being the highest at 1.54 million,' he said. He was speaking to reporters after a Special Operation on the Use of Seat Belts on Express and Tour Buses, held at the Melaka Sentral Bus Terminal here today, which was also attended by JPJ Melaka director Siti Zarina Mohd Yusop. Aedy Fadly said there are 311,866 outstanding summonses under Notice 114, and 171,321 under Notice 115. He added that failure to settle any compoundable summonses — whether overdue or beyond the compound period — will result in the vehicle being automatically blacklisted by JPJ's system starting today. 'For example, beginning today, if an AWAS notice is not settled within 60 days of issuance, JPJ will blacklist the vehicle or the driver concerned. 'Except for around 100 companies with outstanding summonses, as announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke last week, we are giving them a 14-day grace period until July 8... after that date, blacklisting will be enforced,' he said. He therefore urged all members of the public with outstanding compoundable summonses for the three categories — previously set at RM300 — to settle them promptly before Dec 31. The public can check and pay their summonses via the MyJPJ app, the MySIKAP Public Portal, JPJ kiosks, JPJ Mobile counters and JPJ service counters. — Bernama

Pay summonses by midnight July 8 or face road ban, JPJ warns heavy vehicle operators

KOTA BARU, June 30 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is ready to take enforcement action against express buses and goods vehicles that fail to settle their outstanding summonses by July 8. JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said operators of these heavy vehicles have been given 14 days to clear their dues following the announcement by Transport Minister Anthony Loke last Friday. Those with unpaid summonses will be blacklisted and barred from operating on roads once the deadline passes, Berita Harian reported today. 'We guarantee that at exactly 12 midnight on the final day, JPJ teams will be on the roads to take action against the vehicles that fail to settle their outstanding summonses,' Aedy was quoted as saying at a press conference here after the department's assembly here. He added that JPJ is fully prepared for this. He also observed a surge in operators paying up since the minister's announcement last week. 'If any company feels the number of summonses issued does not match their records, they can come to the nearest JPJ office for further verification. 'It's possible that they could have received more summonses if further checks were conducted,' he was quoted as saying. The Transport Ministry is stepping up its enforcement and punitive measures against transport operators with the highest number of traffic summonses as part of a crackdown prompted by a series of fatal road accidents in recent months.

Summonses issued to company, not drivers, Loke tells KDEB

Transport minister Loke Siew Fook said that owners must take responsibility when their vehicles are issued traffic summonses. KUALA LUMPUR : Companies operating commercial vehicles must bear the responsibility when their vehicles are slapped with traffic summonses, says transport minister Loke Siew Fook. This comes after KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd, a solid waste management company owned by the Selangor government, blamed its 22,017 outstanding summonses on its drivers' failure to hand them over. 'Summonses are summonses. The operating permit is issued to KDEB, not the drivers. When the vehicle is slapped with a summons, the owner has to take responsibility. 'How they manage their drivers is an internal matter,' Loke said at a press conference here. He added that it was up to KDEB to determine how it planned to pay the unpaid summonses. Yesterday, the minister revealed that 11 commercial vehicle operators had been found to have over 1,000 outstanding summonses, including 17 express bus companies with more than 200 each. KDEB topped the list with 22,017 active summonses for offences such as technical violations, driving without a valid licence, overloading, operating without a vehicle permit, and speeding. The companies were given 14 days to settle their outstanding summonses. KDEB managing director Ramli Tahir told FMT that the company owns nearly 1,400 lorries registered under its name, operated by subcontractors managing solid waste collection across Selangor. Ramli said the drivers who were issued summonses would usually hide them instead of passing them to the contractors or the company, leaving KDEB in the dark.
