S‘wak vocational students set sights on first-ever Golden Hands Award at national skills competition

BINTULU (July 3): Sarawak's top vocational talents have been urged to aim for excellence and bring home the Golden Hands Award (Anugerah Tangan Emas) at the upcoming Kolej Vokasional (KV) Skills National-Level competition 2025, to be held this September. Chairman of the Sarawak Zone Council of KV/SMT Principals and Directors, Jamali Muhamad, said the mission is clear ― to secure the Golden Hands Award for the very first time. 'We hope this year we will see a representative from the Sarawak Zone emerge victorious in several national-level categories. It is not impossible ― we've done well before, but we've yet to win the Golden Hands Award,' he said during the KV Skills Zone Sarawak 2025 closing ceremony at KV Bintulu here yesterday. The event was officiated by Steven Kong Kai Seng, special officer to the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing. Jamali also highlighted the strong track record of KV institutions in graduate employability, noting that they often rank among the highest nationwide. He added that the government has provided substantial grants to ensure the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) becomes the first choice, rather than an alternative, for students. 'Our KV students are contributing meaningfully to national development. They are the driving force to elevate TVET as the top educational pathway,' he said. He also encouraged parents to expose their children to TVET opportunities from an early stage, as it offers a solid foundation for careers in various growing sectors. This year, 13 outstanding students have been selected to represent Sarawak at the national-level competition, which will be held in Melaka and Negeri Sembilan this September. Meanwhile, KV Bintulu director Sahibi Salleh expressed appreciation for the opportunity to host the KV Skills Zone Sarawak 2025 competition, describing it as a meaningful platform to elevate technical and vocational excellence among students. He underscored the importance of the event as a stage to showcase the potential of vocational college students across a wide range of technical disciplines. 'This competition not only enhances technical skills, but also fosters innovation, teamwork, and collaboration among students,' he said. Sahibi further noted that such platforms are essential in assessing students' mastery of their fields while instilling the work ethic required to succeed in real-world industrial environments. 'It is through competitions like this that we cultivate the excellence, discipline, and professionalism needed to thrive in today's competitive industries,' he concluded. BJP committed to ensuring transparent and accountable governance in Odisha: KV Singh Deo
BERHAMPUR: The BJP government has fulfilled 11 out of the 21 promises the party made in its election manifesto, said deputy chief minister KV Singh Deo here on Thursday. Addressing mediapersons during his one-day visit to Ganjam district, KV assured that the remaining promises would also be fulfilled during the government's current term. Highlighting the achievements of the government after completing a year, he said, 'We took concrete steps to fulfil the promises made in the Sankalp Patra (election manifesto) immediately after assuming office. We took four historic decisions within the first 24 minutes of our inaugural cabinet meeting.' The key decisions included opening all four doors of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, initiating the process to open the Ratna Bhandar, setting up a `500 crore corpus fund and introducing the Subhadra Yojana, he said. Speaking about the BJP government's future agenda, KV said the state is committed to acquiring a cargo aircraft to facilitate the export of green vegetables and fresh fruits from Odisha to international markets. 'We are already exporting strawberries, dragon fruit, and other produce to Dubai and other countries, as well as to domestic markets like Delhi and Mumbai. The cargo aircraft will also benefit Ganjam's floriculture sector,' he said. The deputy CM further stated that the government is working towards providing irrigation facilities to agriculture land of 15 lakh farmers and aims to make Odisha the leading state in vegetable production across the country. 'We have also taken steps to boost the production of pulses and edible oil in the state,' he said. KV said under its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, the government has initiated action against 28 corrupt officials, including IAS and IPS officers. 'The BJP is committed to ensuring transparent and accountable governance for a prosperous Odisha,' he added.

KV Dharwad Students Excel in ‘Mera Amrit Station' Competition
Students of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dharwad, have excelled in the competitions held under the 'Mera Amrit Station' initiative of the Indian Railways. While Roshani of Class III emerged as the star performer in the Drawing Competition, securing the 1st prize for her creative and imaginative artwork, Surabhi V.G. of Class IX secured 2nd position in the essay competition and 3rd position in elocution competition, a release from KV said. The students received the prizes from Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot during the inauguration ceremony of the Amrit Stations held in Dharwad recently. Chairman of Karnataka Legislative Council Basavaraj Horatti and others were present. Deputy Commissioner of the KVS Regional Office Dharmendra Patle, Assistant Commissioners R. How Hindi and fund crunch ‘unite' southern states in protest
Hindi is like the Aurangazeb of Indian languages. The Mughal emperor was ruthless when he aggressively stretched the borders into the Deccan and beyond. History tells us that both have been expansionists and steamrolled rivals into insignificance. Delhi's noble intention has been to 'unify' India that lay 'tukde-tukde' by a legion of regional languages. With a unifier — that's Hindi. For southern states, Hindi had already ceased to hold the old charm. They have been busy exporting techies, doctors, nurses, and teachers in huge numbers to foreign lands and earning dinars and dollars (ignore Trump's new remittance law). Job markets in Mumbai and Delhi no longer fascinate them. And for the hardcore Bollywood fans, the Khans have begun to speak in Tamil and Malayalam in the new digital era. The two prime reasons to try out Hindi have thus died a natural death. New Delhi clarified that the National Education Policy did not compel anyone to teach Hindi. It only wants every Indian to learn three languages. It can be Sanskrit (like some of the big northern states have now decided to go for) or any other Indian language. Quite big-hearted in its approach. All schools run by the central government (CBSE and KV) chose to teach Hindi as the third language, citing convenience. Given that a lot of Indian students are migrating to foreign universities for higher studies, can they opt for Spanish, German, French, Arabic, or Chinese as their third language? The quick retort comes with a snub: it is more about one's culture and values. Not everyone is a linguaphile. Some love to learn languages; some do not.
