MC organizes plogging drive to promote cleanliness
Chandigarh: With an aim to promote cleanliness and environmental responsibility, the Chandigarh municipal corporation, in collaboration with an NGO, organised a plogging activity at New Lake, Sector 42, on Monday. The 10-day long drive was launched by municipal commissioner Amit Kumar, alongside senior deputy mayor and area municipal councillor Jasbir Singh Bunty. Joint municipal commissioner Himanshu Gupta and office bearers of the local residents' welfare association were also present on this occasion. Around 200 schoolchildren participated in the plogging drive, collecting litter from in and around the lake and its adjoining areas. Prior to the activity, participants took a 'Swachhata Pledge', reinforcing their commitment to a cleaner, greener India. The event was meticulously planned as a zero-waste initiative, with all collected waste responsibly transported by MCC garbage picker vehicles. The municipal commissioner praised the young participants, calling them 'Swachh Yuva Doot' and 'agents of change', emphasising the power of collective small steps in bringing about transformative change. "Community-driven efforts like these are essential in shaping a sustainable and clean city." He urged all citizens to actively take part in cleanliness drives within their neighbourhoods. He said the initiative not only aimed at cleaning the area, but also instilled a sense of environmental awareness and civic responsibility among youth and residents.

State panel to check feasibility of MHT-CET twice a yr
Mumbai: The state govt has set up a committee to recommend reforms in the MHT-CET, including the feasibility of holding the test twice a year, with probability of having the first one in January. The MHT-CET for admissions to engineering, pharmacy and agricultural courses, is currently held in April and May over a period of 15 days. Though with the lack of adequate infrastructure available to take up the massive exercise twice a year, the committee could look at other solutions for the convenience of students. TOI had earlier reported about the govt's keenness to hold CETs twice a year, giving them an opportunity to improve their scores. A govt representative said another problem with holding the CET in April and a delayed start for the centralised admission process (CAP), is that most private universities complete their admission process by then. "For holding MHT-CET in Jan, the govt will have to ensure there are no clashes with other entrance exams. Also, if govt uses aided institutions to hold the exams, those should be available for the CETs. The committee will look into the availability of exam centres as well as clashes with other exams," said the official. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Wake Up Refreshed with Those You Love ResMed Buy Now Undo You Can Also Check: Mumbai AQI | Weather in Mumbai | Bank Holidays in Mumbai | Public Holidays in Mumbai Recently, a team of senior officials visited Karnataka to understand their CET processes. Maharashtra's MHT-CET is a computer-based test. tnn
