Just before he went missing, Goofy was at the dip tank while rural dogs were being dipped against parasites – a daily occurrence at the SPCA in its quest to contribute to the health of rural animals.
It was only once the dip tank area had been vacated that they realised Goofy was missing.
The SPCA put out a plea online on Tuesday afternoon, urging anyone with information regarding Goofy's whereabouts to contact them.
Inspectors were also out searching for Goofy in surrounding areas.
'We got a phone call from a member of the public who said he saw Goofy with a bunch of youngsters,' said Marina Visser, Empangeni SPCA chairperson.
'He recognised the dog, and then they were driving around this [Wednesday] morning and they found Goofy among another pack of dogs, but no person.
'The man took the dog and phoned the SPCA inspector, who collected Goofy.'

WATCH: Caxton shows its heart on Mandela Day
Staff of Caxton Local Media Joburg East as well as the Benoni City Times slapped on some hairnets and slipped on gloves as we endeavoured to make 1 000 sandwiches in celebration of Mandela Day on July 18. Moved to tears, Antonette Grobler, of the Salvation Army Benoni Goodwill Centre, received the City Times' contribution. 'Knowing that each individually packed sandwich was not only prepared with us in mind, but that our local community newspaper identified us as worthy beneficiaries, is truly heart-warming.' Casting her eyes on a further donation of packets of soup, which were donated by Caxton staff, Grobler said that the initiative will assist greatly in keeping bellies full and hearts filled with hope. 'I cannot wait to start handing these treats out at our weekly Friday soup kitchen,' continued Grobler. 'We are incredibly grateful to Caxton and the Benoni City Times. Cockroach Mdluli saves 3m python from Mkhuhlu mob
In an act of bravery and dedication to wildlife, Cockroach Mdluli has once again intervened to save a 3m rock python from certain death at the hands of community members. The large snake was rescued on July 12 in Mkhuhlu near Hazyview, where it was found basking in the morning sun. Mdluli said residents, who had reportedly been spotting the python for some time, were determined to kill it. Their fear was amplified when it was discovered that the snake had been hiding in the ceiling of a local filling station. Just a day prior to its capture, the python had fallen from the ceiling but managed to escape unharmed into nearby bushes. Fortunately, Mdluli was called and arrived just in time to prevent a tragedy. He safely captured the massive reptile, which was then released into the Kruger National Park. He pleaded with the public to refrain from killing snakes and warned against attempting to catch them without proper training. 'Snakes also deserve to live – they are an important part of the ecosystem. It is completely normal for them to look for shelter and food in residential areas,' he said. 'They must not be killed.' His tireless commitment continues to highlight the importance of co-existence and conservation in communities often at odds with local wildlife.
