Madras HC reserves order on NEET-UG retest plea over power outage, refuses to extend stay on releasing results
Justice C Kumarappan, before whom the petitions came up for hearing, refused to extend the interim stay, granted already by the court, on the release of the results. As a result, there is no legal bar on publishing the results which was scheduled for June 14.
The petitions were filed by some of the candidates who appeared for the examination at the Kendriya Vidyalaya at Avadi, Government Higher Secondary School in Kundrathur and Padma Seshadri School in KK Nagar.
Additional Solicitor General (ASG) ARL Sundaresan, appearing for the Centre, filed a report on behalf of the National Testing Agency (NTA), saying inquiries revealed that a brief power outage was caused by sudden natural storm and rain in the respective places, but the power supply was restored quickly.
During this period, there was sufficient natural daylight in the classrooms; no contemporaneous complaint or representation was raised by any of the candidates including the petitioners regarding lighting or adverse conditions. Neither the centre superintendent nor any observers or invigilators recommended for compensatory time or reported any procedural irregularity; the examination was conducted strictly as per the NTA protocols, the ASG stated.
He also informed the court that an independent committee of statisticians was constituted to carry out an analysis of the performance of the centre and the students. The committee found no abnormal variation or decline in the number of attempted questions that would suggest disruption or disadvantage.

Delhi University to release 2nd round of UG seat allocation on Monday
New Delhi, Jul 27 (PTI) The Delhi University (DU) will announce the second round of undergraduate seat allocations at 5 pm on Monday as it continues with its centralised admission process under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS-UG) for the 2025-26 academic session. The upcoming list is expected to reflect significant internal reshuffling as more than 43,000 candidates have opted for upgrading their seats after the first round of admissions. According to DU officials, the second list will incorporate these preferences alongside new seat vacancies, paving the way for thousands of students to switch colleges or programmes based on merit and availability. The DU had earlier made 93,166 seat allocations against 71,624 undergraduate seats across 69 colleges and 79 programmes. As of now, 62,565 candidates have confirmed their admission. While 16,126 candidates have chosen to freeze their seats, a large majority –� 43,741 — have opted for upgrades. These students are now waiting for the second round, hoping for movement to their preferred colleges or programmes. The upgrade and reordering window for the current round will remain open till 4:59 pm on July 25. Candidates can also check the latest list of vacant seats on DU's admission portal. The CSAS-UG process uses CUET-UG scores along with college and programme preferences, category reservations and other eligibility criteria for allocations. Seats have been allotted across multiple categories, including Unreserved, OBC, EWS, SC, ST, PwBD, Kashmiri Migrants, Sikh Minority, Single Girl Child and Orphan. Meanwhile, performance-based courses, such as Hindustani Music, Karnataka Music, Percussion Music, Physical Education and Fine Arts, will see allocations in the third round. Candidates for these programmes are advised to follow college-specific websites for the trial schedules. The academic session for first-year students is scheduled to commence from August 1. State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd ( BSNL ) will install 4,000 new mobile towers in Naxalite-affected and remote regions of Chhattisgarh, Union Minister of State for Telecom and Rural Development Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said during his three-day visit to the state. The initiative, aimed at bolstering digital connectivity in underserved areas, will be implemented in phases after receiving requisite clearances from security agencies and the forest department, PTI reported. 'The central government is working on a plan to install 4,000 new BSNL towers in the Naxalite-affected and remote areas of Chhattisgarh to strengthen digital communication,' Pemmasani said in Raipur while reviewing various central government schemes including the Aspirational District Programme and flagship telecom and rural development projects. Highlighting BSNL's efforts to extend 4G coverage nationwide, he added, 'BSNL is providing high-quality 4G services across the country, and with this expansion, we are realising the mission of delivering digital connectivity to the last village in the country.' Computer labs in schools to get ₹400-crore makeover, says Punjab education minister
Punjab school education minister Harjot Singh Bains on Saturday announced a ₹400 crore plan to revamp computer labs in government schools. The announcement came during a 'Dialogue with Teachers' session held at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) in Sangrur. The event aimed to gather direct feedback from educators.
