UP cabinet decision: Proposal to transfer JPNIC project to LDA okayed
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath presided over the meeting of the state cabinet that also decided to dissolve the committee constituted earlier to run the JPNIC. An official spokesman said the JPNIC was allegedly mired in corruption during the previous Samajwadi Party government and will now be completed and operated by the LDA.
The LDA has been granted full authority to run the project on PPP model, define operational procedures and terms, terminate the society's memberships and carry out other related tasks. This decision marks a significant step towards ensuring transparent, efficient, and public-oriented utilisation of the project.
Briefing media persons, minister for finance Suresh Khanna said a sum of ₹821.74 crore spent so far by the state government for construction of the project will be transferred to LDA and treated as a loan to be returned in 30 years. This arrangement ensures financial sustainability in managing and operating the project while making the facility available for public use.
The JPNIC project envisions the development of a modern, world-class centre in Lucknow. It will include a state-level auditorium, a convention centre, a world-class sports complex, and multi-purpose sports courts. Additionally, the centre will have a multi-level parking facility for 750 four-wheelers. These amenities will be open to the public, offering the people of Lucknow a modern, multi-functional facility.
Initiated in 2013 by the then Samajwadi Party government, the JPNIC project was allegedly plagued by corruption from the outset. After coming to power in 2017, the Yogi government launched an investigation into irregularities, halting construction. A CAG report revealed serious violations such as work awarded without tenders and unexplained cost escalations.

These events are being organised in collaboration with Indian embassies and industry bodies, the statement said. In the US, the Uttar Pradesh delegation plans to hold crucial dialogues with prominent technology companies such as Google, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Oracle among others, it said. The outreach shows that the state intends to attract investments across a wide range of industries, including high-tech and digital services, the news agency reported. Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh also emphasised that Uttar Pradesh's approach goes beyond inviting investments. 'It is not just inviting investment, but building sustainable, employment-driven value chains,' he said. He additionally highlighted the state's attractive policy framework, which includes 33-plus sector-specific policies, streamlined approval processes, and digital single-window system Nivesh Mitra, all designed to accelerate investor confidence and facilitate ease of doing business, the news agency reported.

Japan's Ambassador ONO Keiichi meets UP CM Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 4 (ANI): Ambassador of Japan to India, ONO Keiichi, met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Friday. The meeting came a day after the Japanese Embassy in New Delhi hosted the 'Conference of Battery and Critical Minerals Ecosystem' on July 3. Sharing details of the event on social media platform X, Ambassador ONO Keiichi wrote, 'Yesterday we hosted 'Conference of Battery and Critical Minerals Ecosystem' in the embassy. With more than 200 participants from more than 70 companies, we united for future collaboration in the sector between India and Japan.' The conference aligns with the broader push to strengthen India-Japan economic ties--a theme that was also highlighted earlier this year during the 48th Joint Meeting of the Japan-India Business Cooperation Committee (JIBCC) and its Indian counterpart, the India-Japan Business Cooperation Committee (IJBCC), held in New Delhi on March 6. Speaking to ANI on the sidelines of the meeting, Ambassador ONO Keiichi said, 'Japan and India have been natural partners, and for more than 10 years, we have been special, strategic and global partners.' 'On the business side, we have a lot of investment and trade relations here. I believe it will grow in new economic areas like renewable energy, AI, IT, and others. Japanese businesses are keen on building relationships and making investments with Indian businesses,' he said. He also underscored Japan's interest in strengthening people-to-people ties. 'Japan will support India in achieving its goals for 2047,' the ambassador added. A day prior to the joint meeting, on March 5, a 17-member JIBCC delegation led by its chairman Tatsuo Yasunaga called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The delegation included senior leaders from major Japanese corporations in sectors such as manufacturing, banking, airlines, pharmaceuticals, plant engineering, and logistics. Yasunaga briefed the Prime Minister on the agenda of the joint meeting, which focused on areas including high-quality, low-cost manufacturing in India, scaling up production for global markets with a special focus on Africa, and deepening cooperation in human resource development and exchanges. The Prime Minister welcomed the expansion plans of Japanese businesses in India and reaffirmed their commitment to the 'Make in India, Make for the World' vision.
