Charlize Theron leads stars slamming billionaire Jeff Bezos' 'gross' wedding

Daily Mirror6 hours ago

Charlize Theron and Rosie O'Donnell were some of the huge stars criticising Jeff Bezos' recent lavish wedding to Lauren Sanchez
Charlize Theron was one of the many big names that took issue with Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' lavish wedding to Lauren Sanchez in Venice last week. The billionaire and his new wife took three days out of their busy schedule to celebrate their wedding, which is believed to have cost close to £40million.
While the couple celebrated their wedding, protestors gathered in Venice at Santa Lucia train station armed with banners that read "If you can rent Venice for your wedding, you can pay more tax." The demonstration is believed to have been organised by the No Space For Bezos group. A few members of the group were seen laden with Amazon boxes that had the words "ordered, shipped, delivered, rejected" written on them.

The likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Oprah Winfrey and the Kardashians were at the celebrations. Not only did people on social media criticise the wedding, so did Hollywood celebrities like Charlize, Rosie O'Donnell and more.
Charlize spoke about the nuptials while at the fifth annual block party for her charity, Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project and said she was okay with not getting an invitation.
'I think we might be the only people who did not get an invite to the Bezos wedding, but that's okay because they suck and we're cool,' the Oscar winner said. She went on to thanks people for coming to her charity event, "especially when the world feels like it's burning because it is.'
"Here in Los Angeles, in the US and across the globe, we're moving backwards fast,' Charlize continued. "Immigration policy has destroyed the lives of families, not criminals; women's rights are becoming less and less every day; queer and trans lives are increasingly being erased; and gender-based violence is on the rise.
"This isn't just policy, it's personal.' She ended her speech with three words aimed at Jeff: "Yeah, f**k them.'

Rosie O'Donnell also criticised Jeff in the form of a poem shared on her Substack. 'It turned my stomach / Seeing all these billionaires / Gathering in the gross excess of it all / The show of it,' she wrote.
'Is Oprah friends with Jeff Bezos / Really - how is that possible / He treats his employees with disdain / By any metric he is not a nice man.'
She then took aim at Lauren before hyping up his ex-wife MacKenzie Scott. "And his fake fem bot wife / Who looks like that / Why would he choose her / After the salt of the earth Mackenzie.'

Tony nominee also praised MacKenzie as she noted the amount of money Jeff's ex-wife gave to charity. "How awesome is MacKenzie Scott! (Jeff Bezos's first wife & mother of his 4 children).
"As of mid-December 2024, she had given a total of $19.3 billion to over 1600 charitable organizations."

Susan Sarandon ‘terrified but excited' to star on London stage

Sarandon will star opposite acclaimed actor Andrea Riseborough in Pulitzer Prize-winning Tracy Letts' play this autumn. Described as a 'vivid, time-jumping mosaic of one woman's life', Sarandon and Riseborough will both play Mary at different ages over 70 years, with further casting to be announced. Sarandon, who won the best actress Oscar for Atlantic City, has performed on Broadway – but has never trod the boards in the UK before. Oscar-nominated Riseborough, who has starred in films including The Long Walk To Finchley and To Leslie, is returning to the stage after 15 years. Sarandon said: 'I'm so honoured to be asked to be in a play during Matthew Warchus' final season at The Old Vic. Terrified but excited.' The production will take place completely in-the-round, with the 200-year-old auditorium transformed to create a new seating configuration that will surround the stage. Old Vic artistic director Matthew Warchus said: 'I'm delighted to be kicking off my final season at this wonderful theatre with this sensational new play from one of America's greatest living writers. 'And what a privilege to be featuring two such superlative actresses, Susan and Andrea, on the Old Vic stage – along with a large cast and creative team abounding with exceptional talent. 'I'm also really excited to be returning The Old Vic auditorium to perhaps my favourite configuration, and look forward to welcoming audiences to an unforgettable year of fully in-the-round, immersive, 360 degree performances.' Riseborough said: 'It's an honour to be taking on the role of Mary – amongst others – in Tracy Letts' poignant play, alongside the extraordinary Susan Sarandon. 'I'm so very grateful to be working with Matthew again and thrilled to finally work at The Old Vic, a beautiful space. I look forward to us all bringing life to Matthew's remarkable vision for the play.' Mary Page Marlowe premiered at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago in 2016 and opened off Broadway in 2018. It will run at the Old Vic from September 23 to November 1. Tickets are now on sale for members and will go on general sale from midday on Friday.

8 top tips for staying safe at TRNSMT from ear protection to dealing with crowds

TRNSMT kicks off next week, with headliners including 50 Cent and Biffy Clyro. One of Scotland's most well-loved and biggest festivals, TRNSMT will see some 150,000 music lovers descend on Glasgow Green next weekend. Headlining the event between July 11 and July 13 will be 50 Cent, Biffy Clyro and Snow Patrol. Other major names on the bill for TRNSMT 2025 include Gracie Abrams, Fontaines D.C. and The Script. Often perceived as a replacement for the long-cancelled iconic festival T in the Park, TRNSMT has become a staple of Scots summers since it began in 2017. But as the festival approaches, it's important to know how to keep yourself safe in the huge crowds and possible hot weather over the weekend. With this in mind, expert Nick Higginson, CEO at Phoenix Health & Safety is sharing his top eight tips for staying safe at festivals this summer. Here is his advice. 1. Be mindful of the crowd Nick explains: 'To ensure you're safe in a festival crowd, consider standing further back from the stage or to the sides, where the crowd density is usually thinner. "You should also be aware of the mood of the crowd, if you begin to notice people jostling or moving forward, it might be worth considering moving backwards in the crowd to avoid any potential crowd surges that can have potentially severe consequences.' 2. Wear suitable clothing and footwear Nick stresses: 'While it's fun to put on colourful and lively outfits, wearing unsupportive shoes like sandals or flip-flops can easily lead to sprained ankles or stepping on something sharp, which could result in the rest of your weekend being a lot less enjoyable." 3. Protect your ears The cheering crowds and thumping bass of a music festival can do serious damage to your hearing. Nick adds: 'There's a wide range of hearing protection available, that will defend your ears without sacrificing the festival experience. For example, you can purchase a pair of earbuds that help to filter out the loudest levels of sound.' While Loops are a popular brand, available on Amazon for £19.95, Debenhams offers a box of 200 foam ear plugs, currently on offer for £34.19. 4. Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the sun Nick says: 'Being outdoors in the heat can be physically demanding, especially if you're on your feet dancing. It's important to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, so make sure you have a large reusable bottle to keep refilling and take regular drinking breaks." While large hard-shell bottles are on the list of forbidden items for TRNSMT, a collapsible bottle 500ml or smaller is allowed. If you don't already have one, some cheap options are available, such as this one from Amazon, which retails at £9.99. Alternatively, this Decathlon option from Argos is available for £12. Small bottles of sun cream are also allowed in the festival grounds. 5. Take regular breaks Nick explains: 'Not getting enough sleep and then spending hours drinking and dancing can be exhausting and can take a toll on your body. 'Try to make time to have regular breaks to rest and recharge - find a shaded place to rest away from direct sunlight, perhaps by sitting at the back of a music tent so you can relax but still enjoy the performances." 6. Be aware of your surroundings The expert continues: 'Remember to pay attention to your surroundings, and watch where you're walking, particularly when walking around the campsite at night, where hazards will be less obvious.' 7. Arrange meeting points and keep your phone charged Nick says: 'Get to know your maps and different landmarks around the site. It's a good idea to memorise where you will be able to find important locations such as the nearest medical tent, or help centre in case you need to use their services at any point. "You should also agree on an easy to find meeting point with your friends in case you get separated and can't get a signal for your phone." Power banks are also allowed into TRNSMT, so you can ensure your phone has enough juice to contact your friends if you get separated (providing you have phone service). One top-rated product is the INIU Power Bank, which is 21 per cent off on Amazon, now costing £14.98. For those looking for a brighter portable charger to match a colourful festival outfit, Argos offers this discounted one for £22.39 which comes in black, blue or pink. 8. Understand fire hazards Nick shares: 'If you're a smoker, make sure you don't drop the end of cigarette buts on the floor as this can set dry grass alight. I would recommend buying a cigarette ash pouch, which you can use to dispose of any cigarettes to prevent litter. 'If you notice the start of a fire, make sure you notice a member of festival staff in hi-vis." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! While out in the French capital, Aleph approached Swedish star Marlon who was filming content, and casually dropped a surprising fact. He asked, 'You know Star Wars? Padmé Amidala? Well, that's my mom.' Then he cheekily added, 'Can you give a shoutout to my mom?' To back up his claim, Aleph pulled out family photos from his phone. Marlon, clearly taken aback, asked, 'That's your mom?!' to which Aleph confidently replied, 'Yeah, that's my mom.' Taking full advantage of the moment, Marlon asked Aleph to call Natalie herself. Moments later, the actress appeared on screen as Aleph said, 'Mom, do you want to say hi to Marlon?' Natalie, who was getting her hair done at the time, greeted the YouTuber warmly: 'Hi, I'm sorry for disturbing you, I just want to say hi real quick.' Marlon replied, 'Nice to meet you,' adding, 'I'm here with your son real quick, we're about to play a little football.' Hollywood icon trolls Real Madrid with subtle gesture as she poses with Barcelona stars at Ballon d'Or ceremony Natalie wished them well despite not being able to hear much, saying, 'But I hope you're having a great day.' After some small talk, she said goodbye with a friendly, 'Have a good one.' Sharing the story with his 395,000 subscribers, Marlon admitted he was blown away. 'When I was growing up and watched Star Wars really heavily, she was my biggest crush,' he said. 'Very beautiful woman. Very good son. I just want to respectfully say that. That's insane.' Natalie, who has lived in Paris since 2014, divorced Benjamin Millepied after 11 years of marriage in 2024. She met Benjamin — a dancer and director — on the set of 2010 film Black Swan. He choreographed the ballet-themed movie, for which Natalie won a Best Actress Oscar. The couple married in 2012 and have two kids. Israel-born American actress Natalie filed for divorce in 2023, and it was finalised earlier this year in France, where the couple lived together. And Natalie, who made her acting debut aged 12 in Leon, revealed this year that Rihanna shared some kind words to help her through her divorce. The Star Wars actress met the 36-year-old for the first time at Paris Fashion Week in January and, after fangirling together, the singer told Natalie something that created a "formative moment." In the clip, caught on camera, Natalie, 43, told Rihanna, 'I love you" who in return, received the reply, 'I am a f**king fan.' The Black Swan star continued, "I'm gonna faint. I'm gonna black out. "I love you and I listen to your music all the time… You're just such a queen. Thank you," Natalie continued to praise the Fenty founder. On Monday, Natalie told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that Rihanna had called her "one of the hottest b****** in Hollywood. "I think every woman going through a divorce should get to have Rihanna say to her that she's a bad b****," she said. Jimmy then got to his feet and gave her loud applause. After they showed the clip of her with Rihanna, Natalie said, "It was exactly what I needed. "It was a formative moment in my life," she added. 5 It's Natalie Portman!
