Jensen Ackles channels 80s action heroes in ‘Countdown' and ‘The Boys'

Jensen Ackles is embracing his inner '80s action hero in Amazon Prime Video's new crime thriller Countdown.
Known for playing Dean Winchester on Supernatural, Ackles stars as LAPD cop Mark Meachum, a terminally ill undercover officer on a covert task force trying to stop a terrorist threat. Meachum's gritty, unpredictable nature draws on Ackles' childhood inspirations—like Kurt Russell, Bruce Willis, and Mel Gibson.
Ackles admits he modeled Meachum after iconic characters from Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, and Airwolf, saying, 'Those were the guys I wanted to be growing up.' That retro energy also shaped his character Soldier Boy in The Boys, who returns in Season 5 after a shocking post-credits cameo in the Season 4 finale. 'Think Lee Marvin and Sean Connery if they time-traveled to 2025,' Ackles says.
In Countdown, Ackles shares the screen with Jessica Camacho, who plays DEA agent Amber Oliveras. Their tense dynamic adds fresh energy to the usual buddy-cop formula. 'She came in and played it like a tough guy,' he notes. 'She brought the heat.'
Ackles will also reunite with Supernatural co-stars Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins in The Boys' final season. 'We had a blast on Supernatural, but I told them this is someone else's house—respect it.'
Countdown is streaming now on Prime Video. The Boys Season 5 begins production soon, with spinoff Vought Rising following in August.

Brad Pitt's Los Angeles home burglarized while he promotes F1 movie

Brad Pitt's Los Angeles residence was burglarized on the night of June 25, in what police are calling a 'targeted break-in.' Around 10:30 p.m., three unidentified suspects reportedly climbed over the property's fencing, broke through a front window, and ransacked the home before fleeing the scene. The burglary took place in the Los Feliz neighborhood at a property believed to be owned by Pitt, which he reportedly purchased in 2023 for approximately $5.5 million. The LAPD confirmed officers responded to a burglary alarm and found the house had been forcefully entered. While the specific items stolen have not yet been disclosed, authorities say personal property was taken and the suspects appeared to have moved quickly through the home. Surveillance footage is currently being reviewed, and forensic teams have been deployed to collect potential evidence. Pitt, 61, was not home at the time of the incident. He is currently overseas promoting his upcoming film F1: The Movie, and had just appeared at the London premiere on June 23. His team has not issued a public statement regarding the break-in. This incident adds to a rising trend of celebrity-targeted home invasions in Los Angeles. Earlier this year, homes linked to high-profile individuals such as Nicole Kidman and Tom Hanks were also burglarized. Police are investigating whether Pitt's home was selected randomly or due to his celebrity status and widely reported travel schedule. As of now, no arrests have been made. The LAPD is urging anyone with information to come forward, as the investigation remains ongoing. Further updates are expected in the coming days as authorities gather more details.

Eric Dane says 'Euphoria' made him feel like an artist for the first time in his career

In a candid new interview, actor Eric Dane opened up about his evolving identity as an actor, revealing that working on HBO's Euphoria was the first time he truly felt like an artist. Dane, who plays the complex character Cal Jacobs, credited showrunner Sam Levinson and the series' extended production style with unlocking new creative depth. 'I never considered myself an artist until I started making Euphoria,' Dane said. 'That's when I gave myself the allowance to feel like I was an artist.' Dane noted the stark contrast between Euphoria's meticulous 20- to 30-day shoot schedules and the fast-paced 8-day episodes typical of network dramas like Grey's Anatomy, where he rose to fame as 'McSteamy.' That deeper, more spacious process, he said, allowed for more discovery, vulnerability, and character growth. Though filming for Euphoria Season 3 has faced delays, Dane remains committed to the role and praised the professionalism of his younger castmates, including Jacob Elordi and Zendaya. 'I have a pretty good radar for people who'll turn into assholes,' he said jokingly, 'and this cast stayed grounded.' Dane briefly acknowledged his recent ALS diagnosis, stating he preferred to keep the focus on his work. He also stars in Amazon's Countdown, debuting June 25, and says he'll stay with Euphoria 'until the wheels fall off.' Both introspective and energized, Dane continues to navigate high-stakes TV while deepening his sense of artistic purpose.
