Volkswagen India
's latest campaign for its hatchback, the
VW Golf GTI
, 'Made of Legend', is a tribute to the brand's performance-driven DNA.
Brought to life in collaboration with India's ace right-arm fast bowler,
Jasprit Bumrah
, the launch goes beyond introducing the car; it sets out to connect a new generation of automotive enthusiasts across the country.
When Volkswagen set out to introduce the Golf GTI in India, it wanted to create a high-impact launch that spotlighted the automobile's engineering excellence and performance. This demanded building a powerful cultural and emotional narrative rooted in authenticity, the press note shared with ETBrandEquity stated.
In response,
PHD Media
– part of Omnicom Media Group India – and
22feet Tribal Worldwide
, conceptualised a meaningful partnership to position the Golf GTI in the right light and increase brand love. In a nod to the car's legacy, the agency humanised these attributes and leveraged India's deep resonance with cricket.
Working closely with Bumrah, the team orchestrated a high-impact, cross-platform campaign that felt less like a collaboration and more like a natural evolution of two forces built for precision.
Backed by the insight that precision, control, and performance aren't just automotive traits, but qualities seen in individuals who become legends in their own right, 'Made of Legend' is an effortless coming together of such shared philosophies.
The campaign crafts a world where machine and human excellence reflect one another, blurring the line between engineering brilliance and athletic mastery, it added.
Monaz Todywalla, chief executive officer of PHD India, said, 'When we approach partnerships for clients, a lot goes into evaluating and bringing it to life – ensuring it not only fits but elevates the narrative for all involved. The Golf GTI is a globally celebrated icon, defined by its engineering mastery and performance under pressure. Jasprit Bumrah embodies these very qualities – calm, consistent, and composed, with a quiet intensity that mirrors the GTI's spirit, allowing him to inspire fans of VW in a unique way. We're proud to have brought together two legends to craft a campaign that's rich in context and storytelling.'
Vishnu Srivatsav, national creative director at 22feet Tribal Worldwide, added, 'I've been a GTI fan for as long as I can remember. The GTI isn't just a car—it's an icon. Working on launching the Golf GTI in India has been a deeply personal and professional milestone for me. We knew this was more than introducing a vehicle—it was about doing justice to a legend. And in Jasprit Bumrah, we found the perfect embodiment of the GTI's spirit—quietly composed yet capable of the extraordinary.
Bishwajeet Samal, head of marketing and PR at Volkswagen India, said, 'Jasprit Bumrah brings both credibility and cultural relevance to the GTI narrative. This helps us build a strong emotional recall with our audience, while elevating the brand's presence in the performance segment. The collaboration is rooted in strategic intent, and Bumrah's persona aligns naturally with our motorsport DNA, putting the spotlight on performance and consistency with character.'
Bumrah said, 'I've always believed that true performance doesn't need to be loud - it just needs to be consistent. Partnering with Volkswagen and the Golf GTI felt like a natural fit. It's a brand I long admired for its precision and presence, and I'm proud to be associated with something that stands for performance par excellence.'
With more and more Indian consumers seeking brands that align with their values and aspirations, the campaign shines a light on the increasing strategic shifts in the industry from product-centric marketing to culture-centric storytelling, the press note stated.

'People Saying India Lost 2 Games Bumrah Played': Nasser Hussain Flags Dilemma

Last Updated: Nasser Hussain thinks India has a dilemma with Jasprit Bumrah if they draw the fourth Test against England in the 2025-26 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Former England captain Nasser Hussain believes India will face a tricky dilemma viz Jasprit Bumrah if they manage to scrape out a draw against England in the fourth Test of the 2025-26 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. He pointed out how it has already been declared that Bumrah will play three Tests in the series, and wondered whether India will be comfortable dropping their 'greatest match-winner' for a decider. Bumrah, captain Shubman Gill, and head coach Gautam Gambhir have all said that Bumrah is supposed to play just three Tests — something that they have been criticised in India for, too. The Old Trafford game is his third, and he has already bowled 119.4, the second-highest. In Manchester, he was also spotted hobbling a couple of times with cramps and strains. 'India will have a tricky decision to make if they continue to dig in on the final day at Old Trafford and come away with a creditable draw," Hussain wrote in his column for The Daily Mail. 'Because although they keep saying that Jasprit Bumrah will play only three Tests in this five-match series – and this, don't forget, is his third – the series could still be alive when the teams arrive at The Oval next week," he added. Hussain also admitted to being aware of some people's thoughts on why India have lost the two games where Bumrah played so far. 'I know people are saying that India have lost the two games Bumrah has played in and won the one he missed, with Siraj and Akash Deep bowling India to victory in the second Test at Edgbaston. But there are a lot of things that go into losing a game of cricket, and I don't think you can honestly say Bumrah's bowling was one of the causes of the tourists' defeats at Headingley and Lord's," he said, rejecting the idea. 'Clearly, if India lose and go 3–1 down, they can give Bumrah and probably Mohammed Siraj, who has played all four games so far, a rest for the final game. But if they escape Manchester only 2–1 down, are they really going to leave out their greatest match-winner with the ball?" Hussain added. India will start the fifth day trailing by 137 runs, with eight wickets in the bag. There's also chances of rain which can aid their push for a draw, though England still remain with their noses ahead. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Hes Ahead: Who Did Kapil Dev Give An Edge Between Jadeja VS Stokes In GOAT Allrounder Debate?

India's iconic World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev has weighed in on the ongoing discussion about the best all-rounder in world cricket today and he didn't hesitate to back India's own Ravindra Jadeja over England's Ben Stokes. 'I don't want to compare. Stokes is a good all-rounder, but I still feel Jadeja is ahead. He is performing far better,' Kapil said while speaking on the sidelines of the PGTI schedule announcement for the second half of 2025. Kapil's comments come at a time when both all-rounders have played crucial roles for their respective teams in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, where England currently lead 2-1. KD On Gill The 1983 World Cup-winning captain also shared his thoughts on several other hot topics in Indian cricket, including the workload management of Jasprit Bumrah and the leadership of young captain Shubman Gill. On Bumrah's decision to play only three of the five Tests in the England series, Kapil expressed support and acknowledged the physical toll the fast bowler's unique action places on his body. 'I think everybody is different. Times have changed, bodies are different. They are working differently. It is difficult to judge. Yes, he is one of the fast bowlers we have but his action is so awkward and it is difficult to sustain,' he said. Kapil also admitted that Bumrah's longevity in international cricket has surprised him. 'We didn't think he will be able to play this far because he takes too much stress on the body. But still he is delivering to the Indian team. So hats off to him.' India's head coach and Bumrah himself confirmed earlier that the pace spearhead would only play in three Tests of the five-match series as part of workload management, considering his history with injuries. Turning to India's young Test captain Shubman Gill, Kapil urged fans and critics alike to be patient. 'Give him time. This is his first series, he will commit mistakes and there will be many positives over the period of time, he will learn. There is no problem if he is learning. There will be mistakes, but he is learning from his mistakes — that is very important.' Kapil highlighted that this Indian team is still in a transition phase, and Gill, though new to leadership, will grow into the role. 'This is a young team, they are getting the opportunity to play and in the coming days these players will win. It is just a new team. Any new team in the world takes time to adjust. Gill is a new captain, and he will learn a lot and I think this series will be a learning step.

‘Look at his pace': Ricky Ponting slams Jasprit Bumrah for not bowling at full potential in 4th Test

Ricky Ponting has criticised Jasprit Bumrah's reduced pace in the 4th Test against England, saying the long series has taken a toll on India's bowling attack. England dominated with 669 runs as Ben Stokes scored 141, leaving India trailing by 137 runs ahead of Day 5. read more India pacer Jasprit Bumrah is second on the list of leading wicket-takers in the ongoing Test series in England with 14 wickets despite being rested for one match. Reuters Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has questioned Jasprit Bumrah's effectiveness in the ongoing fourth Test against England, saying the Indian pace spearhead hasn't been at his best. Speaking on Sky Sports, Ponting said that playing so many matches in the series has made things tough for Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, adding that it has started to take its toll on them. Bumrah, Siraj criticised by Ponting Ponting also pointed out that Bumrah's pace had significantly dropped in this Test, but he credited the English openers for putting him on the back foot from the start. Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett put on a quickfire 166-run partnership stand on Day 2 of this Test before players like Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Ollie Pope took over. Ponting believes they put Indian bowlers under a lot of pressure. 'That's why the game's called Test Cricket. Yeah, it is a test. It's a physical test, it's a mental test and a challenge. There was always concerns about Bumrah and Siraj really getting through this Test Series with as many games under their belt as possible. You know, this is, I think, the fourth game now for Siraj. So, yeah, they're starting to take its toll. There's no doubt about that,' Ponting said. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'Bumrah did look a bit flat right from the start of this game, to be honest. You look at his pace. His pace has been sort of 82, 83 miles an hour on average right the way through this game, which is probably three or four or five miles down on what he normally is. But you've got to give credit to the England batters as well. I thought Duckett and Crawley at the top really put this Indian bowling attack under a lot of pressure from the start,' he added. England piled on 669 runs in the first innings, with Ben Stokes leading the charge with a brilliant 141. Bumrah picked up just two wickets for 112 runs, while Siraj took one for 140 runs. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for India as he took four wickets under his belt. Washington Sundar took two, while debutant Anshul Kamboj returned with one.
