Mayank Yadav's Rehab To Begin Soon After Surgery In Christchurch: Report
Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav will start rehab at the CoE after successful back surgery by Dr. Rowan Schouten in Christchurch.
Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav is set to begin his extensive rehabilitation process soon after undergoing a successful surgery to address his back issues in Christchurch. The procedure was performed by Dr. Rowan Schouten, a renowned orthopaedic spine surgeon based in Christchurch, who has previously operated on notable cricketers such as Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Jason Behrendorff, James Pattinson, and Cameron Green.
Yadav, who had been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to the recurrence of his back injury, returned to India last week. The surgery focused on the L5 vertebra on both the left and right sides. Sources familiar with the situation informed IANS that Yadav would begin his rehabilitation at the CoE in the coming weeks, but no specific timelines have been set for his recovery, as caution will be exercised in his case.
Throughout his career, Yadav, based in New Delhi, has faced various injuries. After impressing by clocking speeds of 150 kmph and earning Player of the Match awards in his first two IPL 2024 matches for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), a side injury limited his participation to just four games. Subsequently, he underwent rehab at the CoE (formerly called National Cricket Academy) before making his India debut in the T20I series against Bangladesh in October 2024. However, a stress issue in his back ruled him out of the 2024/25 domestic season.
Yadav's potential return to IPL 2025 for LSG, who retained him ahead of the previous year's mega auction, was further delayed due to a toe infection. After joining the LSG camp on April 16, Yadav played only two matches against Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), where his pace was significantly reduced compared to his previous performances in 2024. He relied heavily on slower balls and their variations.
Following the resumption of IPL 2025 after a ten-day pause due to cross-border tension between India and Pakistan, Yadav was again ruled out due to the resurgence of his back injury. Subsequently, LSG signed New Zealand pacer Will O'Rourke as his replacement.
Sources expressed optimism about Yadav's recovery, noting that he no longer experiences back pain, which had previously troubled him. There is hope that, if the recovery and rehabilitation go well, Yadav will gradually return to the field as per the plan outlined by the CoE medical team.

Sitting At Lord's Ground, Ignored India Star Reveals BCCI Selectors Paid No Heed To His Plea
Former captain and seasoned batter Ajinkya Rahane expressed his desire to play Test cricket for India, a format he loves, despite getting "no response" from selectors. The 37-year-old, who was a part of India's defeat in the World Test Championship 2023 final against Australia, has been out of favour since the tour of the West Indies in 2023. After the conclusion of the series, Rahane was dropped from the fold and continued to put in the hard yards in the domestic setup to force his way into the side yet again. Rahane is present at the 'Home of Cricket', Lord's, for India's third Test against England. After both teams took lunch on the third day, Rahane, known for his robust technique, made an honest admission and declared his yearning to still play Test cricket for India. "I still want to play Test cricket, I am passionate about Test cricket. For me, it is about focusing on the controllable. Frankly, I tried to have conversations with the selectors, but I got no response. What I can do is keep playing. I love Test cricket. I love playing with the red ball. It is a passion," Rahane told Sky Sports. "I still want to play Test cricket!" Ajinkya Rahane joins Athers & Nas at Lord's... and the 37-year-old still has a desire to play in white for India — Sky Sports Cricket (@SkyCricket) July 12, 2025 After batting stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from Tests, there was a bleak opportunity for Rahane's return. Despite his valuable experience of playing in England, the Indian selectors entrusted their faith in youngsters and infused young blood into the squad. Rahane, who is among the selected Indians to celebrate a century at Lord's, has had a fair share of memorable moments in the whites. During India's tour of Australia for the 2020-20 21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rahane took over the captaincy from Virat Kohli, who left the tour due to the birth of his child. With Rahane at the helm, India notched mercurial wins in the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne and the decisive Gabba Test to script a fairy-tale series. He finished as India's third-highest run-getter with 268 runs, including a century in the Boxing Day Test in front of a jam-packed crowd at the MCG. Rahane outlined the difference in his captaincy style from Virat's and said, "Every captain must have their own style. When I became the Test captain, I always wanted to back my style, thinking, and instinct. For me, it was about staying true to my character, backing my instincts." Since making his debut in 2013, Rahane has earned 85 Test caps, garnered 5077 runs at 38.46, laced with 12 centuries and 16 fifties. The 37-year-old captained Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy last season, finishing with 467 runs in nine appearances at 35.92, including a solitary ton and a fifty. He steered Mumbai to the semi-finals but failed to reclaim the title after a heartbreaking defeat against Vidarbha.

Punjab Cricket Association elections: AAP leader's father becomes president, party's Mohali MLA wins secretary post
Aam Aadmi Party leader Paramjit Mehta's father and Bathinda hotelier Amarjit Singh Mehta was unanimously elected as the president of the Punjab Cricket Association, while two other AAP leaders, Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh and the party's Punjab general secretary Deepak Bali, who is also advisor to the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Board, were unanimously elected as secretary and vice-president, respectively. The elections for the PCA officer bearers and apex council members were held at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA New International Stadium in Mullanpur on Saturday and all the office bearers as well Apex Council were elected unanimously. Mehta, a hotelier based in Bathinda, was earlier elected as the PCA president in 2023. 'I am grateful to the PCA members for giving me the opportunity and for being elected unopposed. My main focus in this tenure will be developing sports infrastructure in rural areas. With Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann's vision to promote sports in every part of Punjab, we will promote and spot talent through fair selection policies. PCA has always been known for its hospitality, and since the new PCA stadium will be hosting its first women's international matches as well as its first men's international match this year, we will work towards making them a historic moment. Apart from this, we will also open the PCA Club membership at the new Mullanpur Stadium in the coming months,' Amarjit Singh Mehta told The Indian Express. Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh, the richest legislator in Punjab with reported assets worth around Rs 250 crore, began his political journey in 1995 when he represented Ward 21 in the Mohali Municipal Council elections and served as the senior vice-president of the council. Singh, a former mayor of Mohali, had contested the Lok Sabha elections from Fatehgarh Sahib as an SAD-BJP candidate in 2014 but lost. In March 2022, Singh won the SAS Nagar Assembly constituency on an AAP ticket, defeating Congress's Balbir Singh Sidhu by 34,097 votes. Singh, who has replaced Dilsher Khanna as the association secretary, said that one of the targets of the association is a new T20 league apart from conducting village-level tournaments in Punjab. 'This is my first tenure in any capacity with the PCA. I believe the experience of being an MLA, where you serve people, will come in handy. We will aim to start a new T20 League, apart from promoting village and block-level tournaments to spot talent and promote sports in the state. PCA hosted IPL matches for the past two years and also hosted the play-offs. We will make sure that the PCA's new international stadiums are counted among India's best stadiums,' Singh told The Indian Express. Apart from Mehta, Singh and Bali, Sunil Gupta, the incumbent PCA treasurer and the vice-chairman of the Punjab Economic Policy and Planning Board, with the rank and status of Cabinet Minister, was also unanimously elected as the PCA treasurer. Siddhant Sharma was unanimously elected as the joint secretary of the association. Last month, Dilsher Khanna resigned from the post of PCA secretary. Khanna, 33, an alumnus of Doon School and Delhi University and also a certified pilot, was elected as the PCA secretary in 2022 when former cricketer Gulzar Inder Singh Chahal was elected as the PCA president at the association's Annual General Meeting. Chahal had resigned four months after his election, with reports of alleged irregularities during his term coming to the fore. Former cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh too accused Chahal of being involved in alleged irregularities. Post the Annual General Meeting, PCA honoured Uday Pratap Saharan, captain of winning Punjab U23 team in Col CK Nayudu Trophy, VRV Singh, coach of Punjab men's U23 team, Umesh Gill, captain of second placed Punjab U16 team in Vijay Merchant Troph, RP Singh, head coach of Punjab U16 team, Jyoti, captain of second placed Punjab U15 women's team in women's U15 One Day trophy and Yograj, head coach of Punjab women's U15 team.
