Ebbw Vale's Nathan Wyburn honoured by Blaenau Gwent Council
He also helped to hold a Pride event in Blaenau Gwent.
Councillor Chris Smith, the council's equality member champion and presiding member, said: "With Nathan's connections, hard work and all-round enthusiasm, we were able to deliver a truly memorable event that was a landmark moment—fostering a sense of unity, respect and joy among both allies and LGBTQ+ individuals."
Mr Wyburn first gained national attention on Britain's Got Talent in 2011 with his Marmite-on-toast portrait of Simon Cowell.
Since then, he has continued to create thought-provoking artwork using unusual materials such as ketchup, glitter, tea, feathers, and sweets.
He said: "I'm honoured to receive this recognition.
"I'm incredibly proud to have been brought up in this area and I really feel it gave me a strong basis for who I've become as a person and an artist.
"I endeavour to continue my artwork and advocacy going forward and always hope to receive the call to come home and help with future projects and initiatives in the area.
"Thank you."
Mr Wyburn played a key role in organising Blaenau Gwent's inaugural Pride event, which included curating the artist line-up, opening the event, and co-compering with fellow advocate Wayne Courtney.
His "Gay Icons" exhibition was also featured at the celebration.
Despite his international success, Mr Wyburn remains deeply connected to his hometown, often leading community art projects and school sessions.
His commitment to both art and advocacy continues to inspire people across Blaenau Gwent and beyond.

Amanda Holden looks 'unrecognisable' appearing on ITV's Blind Date in '90s
Amanda Holden looks "unrecognisable" in a clip that's resurfaced of her appearing on ITV's Blind Date in the 1990s. The video was shared when she was on air with Heart radio and people have been left stunned A fresh-faced video of TV's Amanda Holden has resurfaced from the '90s, and people think she looks "unrecognisable". The Britain's Got Talent judge had a surprise when the clip was shared with her on Heart radio this week, and it's left people saying the same thing. It was noted she was just 19 when she made an appearance on ITV 's Blind Date show, and the footage has left fans in awe. The radio station said it simply had to bring back the "iconic moment", which was shared on Instagram, and fans simply can't get enough of the fun and hilarious video. In the footage, Amanda, now 54, is asked by Cilla Black which celebrity she'd like to have a romance with, and she replies: "Well, I can only name one, can't I? I have four, but it's Jack Nicholson." Speaking to her co-hosts, she admitted she had a "real crush" on the actor back then, and also joked that she sounded "so posh" when she was younger. However, this wasn't the only difference fans noticed, as they also couldn't get over her totally different look. Wearing a black dress, donning a sharp bob and slightly darker locks - fans were taken aback by the star's transformation. Since it's been shared, the post has been liked over 21,000 times, and people were quick to comment too. They had all sorts of thoughts to share about her changing look. One said: "You literally haven't aged. What a little cutie." Another wrote: "Aged beautifully - and still looks completely natural. A rarity nowadays!" A third replied: "Gosh!! She did have a nice posh accent. Love it." Meanwhile a fourth also commented: "She looked great back then but - OMG - she looks amazing these days. She's aged very, very well." Someone else also added: "Like a fine wine. Gets better with age." One more wrote: "Timeless beauty." Amanda actually made her first ever TV appearance on Blind Date back in 1991 and then, by 1997, she became a cast member of the Channel 5 sketch show "We Know Where You Live", alongside Simon Pegg, Fiona Allen and Sanjeev Bhaskar. Between 2006 to 2008, the actress appeared as Sarah Trevanian in three series of ITV's "Wild at Heart", co-starring Stephen Tompkinson. She's also known for starring in shows such as Cutting It and Smack The Pony. In recent years. she's become wellknown for being a TV judge. Since 2007, Amanda has been a judge on the television talent competition show Britain's Got Talent on ITV. As well as this, she also hosts the Heart Breakfast radio show with Jamie Theakston on weekday mornings. The star is married to Chris Hughes, and the couple have been together for over 20 years. She tied the knot with Chris in 2008, just four years after they first started dating. The couple now share daughters Lexi, 19, and Hollie, 13, together. People seem to love her fun energy, as another fan wrote: "Love Amanda Holden - so charismatic and amazing energy." Another also added: "Amanda, you have always had this amazing energy. What an incredible positive force you are."

Nadine Coyle: 'I'll honour Sarah Harding forever'
Nadine Coyle has vowed to honour Sarah Harding in everything she does, almost five years on from the Girls Aloud star's death. The beloved pop star died in September 2021 at the age of 39 after being diagnosed with breast cancer in August the previous year. Since then, her Sound of the Underground bandmates—Nadine, Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh, and Nicola Roberts—have fundraised in her memory and continue to keep her alive through the group's music. Speaking exclusively to Metro, Nadine, 40, has now declared that 'Sarah will always be honoured' by the girls. It comes after she and her fellow bandmates, who were put together on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, completed a 30-date tour across the UK and Ireland as a four-piece. Titled The Girls Aloud Show, it was their first tour as a quartet and consisted of all their major hits, also including emotional tributes to Harding throughout. On why Harding simply had to feature in the set, Nadine told us: 'It's so important. She's such a huge part of the band in so many ways, and to not have her there is very surreal.' 'Even talking about it still feels surreal that that's the way that it is,' she admitted. 'And definitely some of the rehearsals and bits that Sarah and I would usually do together, I was doing it with Nicola, and it was difficult; those were some tough days. 'But we definitely knuckled down and tried to just see it for how important it was that we did the tour and did it for Sarah and spent time with the fans.' Nadine has never made any secret of her love for Girls Aloud, declaring even today that it's 'great to still be doing it all these years later'. She added that it's still just as 'fun' to be part of one of the UK's biggest girl bands, despite the 'hard parts' fans aren't privy to. 'You don't see all the work or all the things that go into it, but that's, like, anything. You don't get to see behind the screen and see everybody's jobs.' Nadine proceeded to shrug off 'concerns' with her identity beyond the group, saying she 'feels very confident in [herself] and who [she] is'. 'I have never really had to overthink my identity because it's there. I think if I had been concerned enough to try and conform or try to have myself be something more palatable, I reckon this accent would've gone a long time ago, and it hasn't!', she joked. This summer, the Derry-born musician will headline the Clapham Grand Pride Day Party as part of their celebrations for the LGBTQ+ community. Having always had a loyal LGBTQ+ following, Nadine is no stranger to performing at a Pride event, admitting that it 'wouldn't be summer' without it. 'lt's my third time doing the Clapham Grand, and every time I've done it, it's been such a fun time, and this one, you'll have London Pride, then it will come to Clapham, and you can have a great night there, and we can all hang out together again and have a wonderful time.' Asked about the importance of being an LGBTQ+ ally, Nadine said it's not something that ever 'comes into question'. More Trending 'It is just what it is. It's as natural as anything in the world for me. 'I am so proud of my friends and people who have faced struggles that mean we all get to live in this somewhat peaceful existence. 'I'm really up for people having themselves be whoever it is they feel natural being and enjoying that, and I hope that for myself, and I hope that for everybody else.' Nadine Coyle returns to The Clapham Grand to headline their Pride Day Party on Saturday, July 5, from 5-10pm, as part of the venue's biggest ever day of Pride celebrations. Get all tickets here. MS says culture isn't a luxury in Wales its 'who we are'
MS for Delyn Last week in the Senedd, I spoke about the incredible contribution of North Wales to our cultural landscape – whether that's the Llangollen International Eisteddfod or the North Wales International Music Festival in St Asaph or our historic heritage at Flint Castle and Greenfield Valley. There's also the jewel in our cultural crown, Theatr Clwyd, which is nearing the end of an inspirational transformation. Culture in Wales isn't a luxury, it's who we are. It empowers, connects and drives our economy and it deserves to be supported not only by Welsh Government and other public bodies but also by our communities, the communities who inspire and attend performances and enjoy the wonderful cultural riches on offer in our corner of Wales. You can see many of my contributions in Senedd on my Facebook page at It was also lovely recently to welcome students and teachers from Point of Ayr Federation Schools to the Senedd for a visit. They certainly asked some fantastic questions and took the opportunity to raise a number of things they were concerned about with me – from the impact of acts of anti-social behaviour on their school and in their local area to what was happening with plans for a new skate park. I look forward to taking these matters up as their Member of the Senedd and updating the students through their schools. Last week was Armed Forces Week, culminating in Armed Forces Day on Saturday – a chance to pay tribute to the dedication, courage and sacrifice of those who have served and those who continue to serve in our Armed Forces. I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to all those in our Armed Forces community, including veterans and reservists here in North Wales, for their continued service and commitment. We will always remember, support and stand with you. As this year's Pride month comes to a close, it's a chance to reflect on what has been a packed but powerful few weeks. From the first ever Prestatyn Pride to the excellent Flintshire Schools Pride, Pride Cymru in the capital and Commonwealth events in the Senedd, Pride remains as relevant and as important as ever – a positive force for good that brings together both the LGBTQ+ community and the wider community. It's a privilege to serve the community that shaped me here in North Wales and I'm proud to be an authentic advocate and ally for our LGBTQ+ community too. Pride is still a protest and love will always win! Regular readers of this column will know that the Welsh Government will be banning plastic in wet wipes next year – the legislation is set to come into force in December 2026 and is part of a wider, integrated approach to address the problems created by excess plastic and litter, banning all sorts of single-use and unnecessary plastics in products we all use regularly, something which I kick-started when I was Minister for Environment back in 2016. So it was heartening this week to hear that Nice-Pak in Flint, one of our biggest local employers and one which does a lot of work locally for our communities, is ready for the transition ahead of the legislation by ensuring that 96% of the wipes it manufactures for the UK market are already plastic-free. This is great news for the company and for the environment – well done to the team at Nice-Pak! Finally, a reminder that Mold Carnival is back this Sunday, July 6 – a brilliant local event that brings the whole community together at the Rec and Kendricks Field (Maes Bodlonfa Fields). The day kicks off with a colourful parade at 10:30am from Griffiths Square car park and runs until 6pm with everything from hands-on science fun and special character appearances to live music, dance acts and family entertainment throughout the day. Plus, there'll be free football activities thanks to the FAW and McDonald's as well as Transformer robots! If you're free, do pop down and support this fantastic local day out. It's a great celebration of everything that makes Mold such a special place to live.
