Over RM5 million seized in Sarawak GOF's crackdown on illegal activities
Its Commander, SAC Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang, said that the four successful operations - Op Taring Alpha, Op Taring Bravo, Op Taring Awas, and Op Libas - were carried out between June 23 and 28 in Kuching, Sibu, Miri, and Lundu.
He said the biggest haul was recorded by the 10th Battalion of the Sibu GOF, during Op Libas on June 24, where an illegal logging site was raided, resulting in the arrest of three men, aged 39 to 57, and the seizure of 350 logs.
"Also seized was a wood-cutting machine, bringing the estimated total value of the seized items to RM3.504 million, based on market price," he said in a statement today (June 30).
Under Op Taring Alpha on June 23, the GOF Investigation Branch raided premises here and seized 32,736 litres of various brands of liquor without customs duty approval, in addition to arresting five local men, aged between 26 and 36.
"Also seized was a lorry, and the estimated total value of the seizure was RM1,457,648, according to market price.
Through Op Taring Bravo, in Miri on June 25, a team from the GOF Miri raided premises in the district, arresting two local men, aged 32 and 45, and seizing 39,300 litres of diesel stored without a permit.
A diesel storage tank and a lorry were also seized during the operation, bringing the total value of the seizure to RM486,065.
Under Op Taring Awas on June 28, a team from the 11th Battalion of the Kuching GOF arrested three local men, aged between 23 and 36, in a vehicle in Lundu, and seized a transparent packet containing a substance believed to be methamphetamine, weighing 0.32g (grammes).
The total value of the seizure, including the vehicle, was RM50,100.
He said that, from Jan 1 to June 30, Sarawak GOF recorded total seizures amounting to RM290.3 million, involving 236 cases and 355 arrests.

Communication company staff claims trial to CBT charges

KOTA KINABALU (July 3): A finance executive cum accountant of a communication company claimed trial in a Sessions Court here on Thursday to three charges of committing criminal breach of trust. Rabiahtul Adawiah Pastor, 33, who appeared before judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code. The indictment provides for a jail term of up to 14 years and whipping or with a fine, upon conviction. On the first to the third counts, she was accused of embezzling RM273,802.64, RM263,758.50 and RM49,330 respectively, by transferring the alleged money to three companies' bank accounts. The alleged offences were committed at the communication company between January 6, 2022 and October 30, 2023, between January 14, 2022 and October 27, 2023 and between November 30, 2022 and October 27, 2023, respectively. The court fixed August 5 for her case management. Rabiahtul who was represented by counsel Sharatha Masyaroh John Ridwan Lincon, was released on RM5,000 bail for all the three charges with two local sureties.

GOF busts illegal Gua Musang gold mine, RM1mil in assets seized
KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) thwarted illegal gold mining activities in Kampung Pulai, Gua Musang, with the seizure of assets and equipment worth over RM1mil during Ops Bersepadu Khazanah on Wednesday (July 2). GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said personnel from Battalion 8 in Pengkalan Chepa and officers from the Kota Baru Land and Mines Office raided the place following intelligence and public complaints about illegal mining in the area. "In the 11am raid, the operations team discovered a suspicious tent in an oil palm plantation near the foothills. "Further inspection led to the discovery of various heavy machinery and equipment believed to have been used for unauthorised mining activities. Among the items seized were three excavators of various types with no registration numbers, three water suction pumps, three sluice boxes and four sluice carpets, with the total value estimated at RM1.09mil," he said in a statement Thursday (July 3). He said no arrests were made during the operation, as the site was believed to have been vacated before the raiding team arrived. A one-hour observation also did not lead to the presence of any individuals at the location. "Preliminary investigations found that the illegal mining operation had been running for about six months. "The seized items have been handed over to the Kota Baru PTG for further action, including tracking down the machinery owners. Sabah GOF seizes over RM200mil worth of smuggled goods in first six months of 2025
KOTA KINABALU: A total of RM224.8mil worth of goods, including smuggled subsidised items, were seized by the state's General Operations Force (GOF) between January and June this year. Sabah GOF brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Datuk Abdul Rani Alias added that they also arrested 487 individuals during the same period. The arrests and seizures, he explained, were made through a series of coordinated operations conducted, including Ops Taring ESSZONE/Daratan, Ops Kontraban, Ops Bersepadu Khazanah, Ops Hazard (e-waste), and various road checkpoint inspections (RCP). He attributed these achievements to the strong collaboration between multiple battalions, namely BN14 Tawau, BN15 Sandakan, BN16 Kota Kinabalu, BN17 Lahad Datu, BN20 Beluran, BN21 Keningau, and BN22 Kunak, as well as other enforcement agencies. 'A total of 268 raids were conducted over the six-month period, resulting in arrests involving both locals and foreigners. 'Of the total, 282 individuals were foreign nationals from countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, China, Pakistan, and India, detained for various offences,' he said in a statement on Wednesday (July 3). Among the items seized during these operations were vehicles, frozen food, alcoholic beverages, contraband cigarettes, firearms, e-waste, and crude palm oil (CPO). 'The highest-value items included vehicles (RM40.8mil), contraband cigarettes (RM40.6mil), e-waste (RM48.8mil), firearms and fireworks (RM20.3mil), frozen food (RM13.1mil), CPO (RM1.9mil), and petrol and diesel (RM361,253),' he said.
