If The Hemline Index—proposed by economist George Taylor in 1926—has any truth to its obvious whimsy, it seems we're headed for a recession. In contrast to the carefree attitude that comes with wearing a frothy mini, the industry is suggesting we give our skirts more fabric, pulling hemlines downwards over the knees. A sign of the times it may be, but it's one the zeitgeist is surely on board with—no matter the connotations. From the runways to the streets, the chic result of an organised takeover has us all convinced: the midi skirt is here to stay.
Over the fall/winter 2025 season, fashion houses ruled in favour of the unassuming skirt style, which once carried a reticent quality to it. Instead, the midi was reclaimed in exquisite impressions. There were the delicious sculptures that played with volume and texture, such as the peplum, fringe-style skirts on Pieter Mulier's Alaïa runway. A sensual approach to styling also had a big part to play in the recent season; one might recall the effortless '90s feel of Calvin Klein's corporate refresh. Yet one can't possibly discuss the midi skirt revival without bringing Miuccia Prada's name into the pit; be it the Y2K candor at Miu Miu or the directional shapes at Prada. Alaïa fall/winter 2025. Off the runway, the midi is one all the It girls are pulling out of their wardrobes as well. On any given day, one could scroll their social media feeds and find the likes of Gabbriette, Charli XCX or Alex Consani sporting a midi with ease, paired to an itty-bitty top no less. Cementing her cool girl status further over in Seoul, we've also been on the receiving end of Seulgi's layered skirt delivery in her recent teaser images for an impending comeback with fellow member Irene. And if you're asking Rihanna, it seems a Miu Miu midi was the only way to go for her third baby bump reveal.
With its staying power a given, here comes the catch. Its diverse silhouettes run the gamut from updated pencil options to layered sheer numbers to choose from. But never say never, at least where we're concerned. Here, a Vogue -approved edit of midi skirt styles to cop, with only more to come once fall rolls around. Courtesy of Prada

The best-dressed celebrities we spotted in Milan and Paris this men's season

There was nothing subtle about this men's season in Milan and Paris. It turned on the throttle, dishing out reconstructed codes of what menswear could be about. Prada brimmed with instinct in child-like bloomer shorts, fitted tracksuits, perfect cotton trousers in multitudes of pastel. Anthony Vaccarello offered an escape; Céleste Boursier-Mougenot's transformative installation setting the stage for Saint Laurent's signature jewel hues and slouchy silhouettes that gave attitude as much as it gave a sense of reflection on an important part of queer history. A few days later, Julian Klausner found his footing in his menswear vision for Dries Van Noten that ushered in a new era—in wistful colours, a spattering of Dries-y jacquard blooms; and silk sarongs wrapped around waists. Then came Jonathan Anderson's Dior. A tight collection that sincerely earned its standing ovation; as references from the maison's archives were made accessible, infused with the casual, and even gave us an inkling of what his upcoming womenswear might look like. A joyous first step into the world that JWA is creating for the storied maison. With each designer's runway being such a tease for the sartorial set, there was no question that the streets showed their enthusiasm in equal measure. A stomping of showgoers and beaming fashion fans were sprawled across the streets of Milan and Paris, each one dressed up in their best attire. Topping off the buzzy affair of the men's spring/summer 2026 season? The equally starry celebrity crowd, of course. The big players came out for Pharrell's Louis Vuitton; think Beyoncé and Jay-Z, J-hope, Gong Yoo, Sho Hirano, Fourth, Yuta of NCT as well as GOT7 duo: BamBam and Jackson Wang. Meanwhile, there was no shortage of stars at Prada, from house familiars Win Metawin and Sana of Twice joining Benedict Cumberbatch, Kentaro Sakaguchi, Lee Dohyun and Harris Dickinson in the front row. On the other hand, Dior brought names associated with the house and designer both, from Rihanna and Robert Pattinson, to Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist. Scroll on to see the most stylish celebrities from the men's spring/summer 2026 shows in Milan and Paris.

Show Picks: Gigs by The Chainsmokers, Ayumi Hamasaki, Irene and Seulgi

The Chainsmokers In Singapore American electronic dance duo The Chainsmokers are frequent visitors to the Lion City. The duo, consisting of Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, last performed here at the inaugural LIV Golf Singapore tournament at Sentosa's Palawan Green in 2023. In May 2024, they released their fifth EP No Hard Feelings, which has six tracks. These include Addicted, a collaboration with Brazilian DJ and record producer Zerb, and featuring American singer Ink, who sings about hitting the clubs and flirting with danger. It is among the new songs expected to feature on the set list of The Chainsmokers' June 27 solo show. Over the years, Taggart has become known for his dynamic vocals during live performances, while Pall has impressed with his virtuosic piano playing. While a return is not yet in the works, two of the members – Irene and Seulgi – will soon make a stop here on their first concert tour. They are Red Velvet's first sub-unit and debuted as a duo in 2020 with the EP Monster. While the Covid-19 pandemic posed significant challenges to them releasing new material after that, their second EP Tilt finally came out in May 2025. The comeback work has six tracks, including the dance-pop title track, which explores the notion of growing together in a relationship, complete with an electronic beat and R&B feel. Another track, Irresistible, describes falling for a captivating presence, backed by an acoustic guitar, while What's Your Problem? reinterprets a 1990s hip-hop R&B sound for today. The show will be performed on a four-sided stage and feature state-of-the-art visual effects. Best street style from the Milan men's spring/summer 2026 shows

In Milan, the fashion fleet has been brewing up quite the storm, first with Pitti Uomo and now with the men's spring/summer 2026 shows in full swing. Albeit a quieter season in comparison to its last (with JW Anderson skipping out in prep for his highly-anticipated Dior show in Paris), well-loved stalwarts like Dolce&Gabbana and Prada (from the famed duo Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons) have stirred up their own respective buzz in the Italian city. The former took bedhead to a different place and sent models down with rumpled piped shirts and loose striped drawstring pants. As for the latter, a childlike innocence permeated the scene—with boat-neck knit sweaters, bloomer shorts-shorts and colourful T-shirts splashed out in graphics. If the start of the men's spring/summer 2026 is anything to go by, designers are streamlining things in their own language. And what of the streets? Well, weather-considered, attendees have been stepping out in lighter, skin-baring silhouettes. Of Paul-Mescal-approved short-shorts, tank tops and plunging necklines, all to convey the effervescent spirit of summer. Amongst the crowd, famous faces have also naturally been spotted—congregating around the expected buzz of the Prada show. Think names like Overcompensating's Benito Skimmer, Harris Dickinson, EXO's Kai, Riz Ahmed, Twice's Sana and more. Below, spy the best street style snaps from the men's spring/summer 2026 season in Milan by Acielle of StyleduMonde—with more to come.
