No proposal for Denzel Dumfries; Barca focus on Jules Koundé's new deal

Barcelona are focused on Jules Koundé's new deal and feel he along with Eric Garcia can be a great option at Right-back for next season. By Ravi Kumar Jha Published on July 22, 2025, 19:03 IST
Barcelona are focused on Jules Koundé's new deal and feel he along with Eric Garcia can be a great option at Right-back for next season. Barcelona have been offered Denzel Dumfries whose release clause of €25 million is valid until July 31. Barcelona aren't making any contacts with Inter Milan for the right-back as they have prioritised Koundé's new deal.
Barcelona are currently focused on securing a new contract for Jules Koundé, viewing the French defender as a key part of their future plans. The club believes Koundé, alongside Eric Garcia, can form a reliable right-back pairing for the upcoming season, reducing the urgency to pursue reinforcements in that position.
Despite being offered Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries — who is available for €25 million until July 31 due to a release clause — the Catalan giants have shown no interest in opening talks. Instead, all efforts are being channelled towards finalising Koundé's extension, a move that underlines the club's trust in his versatility and long-term value.
Eric Garcia, who spent last season on loan at Girona, has also impressed the coaching staff, further strengthening Barcelona's belief that internal solutions can address their defensive needs. While Dumfries remains on the market, Barcelona are not expected to shift focus from their current plan.

From hospital bed to hero: Bonmatí's goal sends Spain to first Euros final

Aitana Bonmatí began the Women's European Championship recovering from a hospital stay. On Wednesday, she steered Spain to another major final against England. The two-time Ballon d'Or winner scored the extra-time clincher in a 1-0 semifinal victory over Germany and set up a rematch of the World Cup final in 2023, when Spain beat England 2-1. Bonmatí's preparations for Euro 2025 were seriously disrupted when the Barcelona midfielder was hospitalized with viral meningitis less than a week before the tournament. 'I wanted to get to this game at my best level and that's thanks to all the people next to me, who helped me to reach this game at my top level because on my own it wouldn't have been possible," Bonmatí said. Bonmatí's goal created history for Spain. It was the first win in nine attempts against Germany and secured a place in the European final for the first time. 'I don't believe in destiny. I believe in hard work, my mentality, and all the support I have received,' the 27-year-old Bonmatí said. The match was seven minutes from a nerve-wracking penalty shootout when Bonmatí gathered a pass and got past Rebecca Knaak with a clever dummy and turn before squeezing home an audacious attempt from the tightest of angles. The goal also ended a rare drought for Bonmatí, who hadn't scored in her previous six appearances. 'It wasn't easy for her at the beginning of the tournament but she has a special personality to be at the maximum level,' Spain coach Montse Tomé said. 'She has a huge capacity to create spaces, where she can generate opportunities like today. 'And she managed to overcome the health issues she had at the beginning of the tournament. Good work was done with her to get her back to the level she's at now, she helps the team a lot.' Spain is aiming to add the European title to its collection after winning the World Cup and Nations League in the past two years. To do that it has to get beat defending champion England in Basel on Sunday. 'Tomorrow we will think about England," Bonmatí said. 'Now it is time to celebrate.' ___ AP soccer:

Serbian starlet Aleksandar Stankovic is on the verge of swapping Inter Milan for Club Brugge. According to FCInterNews, the clubs have signed all the documents for the transfer. Club Brugge have agreed to pay Inter around €10 million for the deal. Meanwhile, Inter have included a buyback clause, giving them the option to re-sign the player within the next two years. However, the clause will vary. Yet, if they don't, the Nerazzurri will need to pay €25m to recapture Stankovic's signature in 2027. Furthermore, Inter will receive a percentage from any future transfer. It's uncertain whether it will be 12% or 15%. Meanwhile, Inter can use the money from the sale to fund the arrival of Ademola Lookman.
