Delhi: Man shoots at rickshaw driver for brushing against his car, arrested

A 46-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly shooting at and injuring a man, who was riding a cycle rickshaw, for brushing against his car in North East Delhi.
Police said the victim, Vinay (30), was riding his rickshaw early Monday when he brushed against a black Thar. The incident occurred while Vinay was taking a U-turn near Gagan Cinema in Nand Nagri.
The Thar's driver, later identified as Sameer Sharma – a resident of Madhuban in Nirman Vihar – allegedly rolled down his window and shot at Vinay before fleeing. Vinay was rushed to the Guru Tegh Bahadur hospital for treatment.
At the hospital, police were notified of the incident.
A woman, who was Sameer Sharma's co-passenger at the time of the incident, was apprehended by the police for questioning.
'The weapon of offence, a pistol, and the black Thar car were seized. Further investigation to uncover the sequence of events and the motive behind the shooting is ongoing,' said DCP (North East) Ashish Mishra.

NEW DELHI: A 46-year-old man has been arrested for alleged shooting at an e-rickshaw driver after he accidentally brushed his vehicle against a car in Nand Nagri area, police said on Friday. In the early hours of June 23, Vinay (30) was on going back to his home in Saboli from Amit Vihar in his e-rickshaw. As he took an about-turn near Gagan Cinema, his vehicle reportedly brushed against a black car, a senior police officer said. In a fit of rage, the SUV driver, identified as Sameer Sharma, allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot at Vinay before fleeing the spot, he added. A PCR call regarding the gunshot injury was received from GTB Hospital, where the victim was admitted for treatment, the police said. Based on Vinay's statement, a case was registered under relevant sections of the BNS and Section 27 of the Arms Act at Nand Nagri Police Station, police said. Subsequently, Sameer, a resident of Nirman Vihar, was arrested and during interrogation, he told police about his female accomplice, who was also apprehended, they added. The pistol used in the crime and the black SUV have been seized, the police said. Further probe is underway to ascertain the motive, the officer said.

The cybercrime unit of the Ghaziabad police on Friday arrested seven suspects who allegedly used data of insurance companies and issued fake insurance policies to customers in at least 10 states. The gang, during interrogation, revealed that they duped about 1500 customers and amassed about ₹ 4.5 crore during the past two years, said officials. (Sakib Ali/HT Photo) The officials said that the two prime suspects worked with a financial services company in Noida till 2021 and left their jobs thereafter. Before leaving, they copied and brought along data of customers from bigger insurance companies. 'The two prime suspects later decided to cheat people and roped in five other suspects. With the data available, they would call the customers in order to renew or issue fake policies and even offer them benefits. Overall, they told the interrogators that they cheated about 1500 people and gathered about ₹ 4.5 crore. They collected money in several accounts and would issue fake policies,' additional police commissioner (CP) Alok Priyadarshi. The police identified the two prime suspects as Aman Agarwal, 29, and Rahul Sharma, 23, both residents of Crossings Republik Township in Ghaziabad. Their five accomplices were identified as Rahul Yadav, 30, Aftab Alam, 25, Deepak Singh, 26, Garvit Tyagi, 24, and Jagjit Singh, 28. The officials said that all seven were arrested in Vijay Nagar. 'They purchased a Thar and XUV300 SUVs from the money they received and also rented two flats from where they operated. They also operated from their SUVs. So far, we have frozen about ₹ 47 lakh in their accounts, and more investigation is going on in the case,' said Addl. CP Priyadarshini. The officials said that the gang targeted residents of Delhi, UP, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. The police said that the suspects have nine cases reported against them to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. The police said that apart from sections of 318 (cheating), 336 (forgery), and 319 (personation), the suspects are also subjected to legal action under section 111 (organized crime) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
