Sell Semenyo and buy Mateta? Fans on transfers

BBC News17-06-2025
As the transfer window is now open again until 1 September, we asked you to tell us one player you want Bournemouth to sign, and a player you want to be sold this summer. Here are some of your comments:Chris: Sell Semenyo. The team had a great season and he stood out as a player who can carry the ball and beat a man - when we were controlling games and having lots of the ball. But with star names from the defence leaving the club, I'm not convinced he will have the opportunities to do the same next season, so cashing in while his value is high might be good business given the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool are apparently showing interest. Buy - I would look to bring in a strong performer from the Championship. Josh Murphy had a great season at Portsmouth, as did Tom Fellows from West Brom.Ross: I don't think the club have any players they need to sell but they could make some permanent deals for the players who went on loan last season (not Philip Billing - bring him back). As for buys - a permanent goalkeeper would be good, as would a lot of defensive players to give players a rest throughout the season so there aren't a lot of injuries throughout or at the end of the campaign.Lewis: There are too many in the midfield who clearly aren't good enough for a top-half team. Alex Scott is a poor man's Ryan Christie and Tyler Adams is a liability. That is where the buy and sell needs to happen!Geoff: Sell Mark Travers and replace with Kepa Arrizabalaga.Merlin: It would be interesting to see whether we make an offer for Jean-Philippe Mateta and Marc Guehi at Crystal Palace. They are both very talented players and we need more depth in that centre-back position with no more Dean Huijsen and Illia Zabarnyi looking likely to leave.

F1 Hungarian GP 2025 schedule: How to watch race in Budapest

F1 returns to Budapest for the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend, round 14 of the 2025 season and the last race before the summer break. Championship leader Oscar Piastri won the Belgian Grand Prix last time out, with an early overtake on McLaren teammate and title rival Lando Norris sealing his sixth victory of the season. The Australian now has a 16-point lead over the Briton. Charles Leclerc secured a podium finish for Ferrari, while Lewis Hamilton recovered from a pit-lane start to come home seventh. However, the seven-time world champion is still chasing a first podium for the Scuderia. Red Bull's Max Verstappen won the sprint race at the first race under new team principal Laurent Mekies, while Mercedes endured a weekend to forget. Lioness star Chloe Kelly's heartbreaking confession as she admits ‘I was in a dark place'

Chloe Kelly appeared on This Morning on Thursday (July 31) morning after the England team won the Women's Euros 2025 Final Lioness star Chloe Kelly admitted that she 'needed to find happiness again' as she opened up on a 'dark' time that left her falling out of love with football. ‌ The 27-year-old appeared on Thursday's (July 31) episode of ITV hit daytime show This Morning alongside hosts Dermot O'Leary and Rochelle Humes following the Lionesses' big win. ‌ The team recently made history as they won the Women's Euros 2025 Final for the second time, with Chloe stepping up to seal the deal with the winning goal for England. ‌ However it hasn't been a smooth journey for the footballer as she admitted to struggling with her maternal health at the start of the year. Chloe struggled to find her place at Manchester City and admitted that she didn't see 'a future' at the club, before being swooped up by Arsenal. ‌ Dermot went on to ask: 'Chloe, you went through a period where you almost quit the game. Did you have enough?' In an emotional moment, Chloe admitted: 'Mentally I was in a really dark place in January and I needed to find happiness again on and off the pitch.' She continued: 'I think that it's really important to look after your mental health and football felt so far away at the time. I went on loan to Arsenal and I found such happiness coming back to London. ‌ 'It's my city where I grew up, being closer to my family and everyday stepping onto the pitch with Arsenal I felt like my smile was coming back.' Dermot, who is a proud Arsenal fan jumped in: 'I can't tell you how much that makes me feel so proud to hear that by the way and to hear the words Arsenal.' ‌ Chloe replied: 'Thank you. As the months went by I could feel myself smiling again and it's really important as human beings. 'We are footballers but we are also human beings and I think happiness is important and it allows me to be at my best on the pitch.' The star added: 'The Euros felt so far away from me in January because I just wanted to be happy so now to be a European champion is incredible so I'm really proud.'

League One outright odds, season preview and tips

The League One season gets under way on Friday with 3/1 title favourites Luton Town taking on AFC Wimbledon in the season-opener at Kenilworth Road (kick-off, 8pm). Birmingham City ran away with the title last campaign, amassing an eye-watering 111 points, but there should be a more even spread of points in the 2025-26 season. Ahead of the third-tier campaign, our expert tipster takes a look at the outright odds and best bets for the 2025-26 League One season, from who could be promoted to the top goalscorer betting. The Hatters were relegated on goal difference from the Championship last season and were starting to show signs of progress under Matt Bloomfield at the end of the campaign. Last term's top scorer Carlton Morris has departed for Derby County, but they have recruited smartly, with highly rated goalkeeper Josh Keeley and the experienced pair of Kal Naismith and George Saville among those to arrive, along with veteran striker Nahki Wells. The 3/1 on offer for Luton to win the title looks about right but it is Stockport County who are the value picks to finish top at 9/1 and to be promoted at 11/4. Dave Challinor has done a remarkable job since arriving at the club in 2021 and led County to third last season, before they lost to Leyton Orient on penalties in the play-off semi-finals. There is a risk that could set them back psychologically, but Challinor knows how to get the best out of this group, which has been strengthened by the arrivals of talented forward Malik Mothersille from Peterborough United and defender Joseph Olowu from Doncaster Rovers among others. They should not face the same level of competition at the top as last season and despite many fancying them to impress this term, their odds are still far too big. If you'd like to find more odds and offers, take a look at our list of the best betting sites as well as the latest free bets Tangerines in for a fruitful campaign Blackpool could be outsiders to force a promotion push and look a solid bet at 11/8 to make the top six. Steve Bruce's appointment at Bloomfield Road raised eyebrows last season but under the former Newcastle United manager, the Tangerines secured 65 points from 42 games. They finished only three places outside the top six and it should be a more balanced division in 2025-26. Losing midfielders Rob Apter and Sonny Carey to Charlton Athletic is not ideal, but they have recruited well with George Honeyman and Jordan Brown joining from Millwall and Leyton Orient respectively. Former Stockport centre-back Fraser Horsfall is a great addition to the defence, while Niall Ennis, who bagged seven goals in 19 appearances on loan last season, has joined on a permanent deal and can be a danger at this level. Dropping down a tier can benefit Wells Huddersfield Town's Alfie May, who bagged 16 goals in 44 appearances for champions Birmingham last season, is the 9/2 favourite to be top goalscorer in League One this season, but there is value to be had further down the betting. Those who think Luton can win League One this season can get better value from an each-way bet on their striker Nahki Wells to be top scorer at 14/1, rather than backing the Hatters outright. Wells turned 35 in June and is probably past his best but he scored 10 goals in 39 league games in the Championship last season, so there is a chance he could excel now he drops down a division. He has reached double figures in three of the past five Championship campaigns and should spearhead the attack of a Luton team expected to score plenty of goals. At 25/1, Mothersille is another player who appeals, having joined Stockport after an impressive season at London Road. Winger Mothersille is a key creator but he also scored 12 times in League One last term for a Peterborough team who finished 18th. He should have even more attacking opportunities at Stockport and, at the age of 21, he is only going to get better.
