Susan Sarandon ‘terrified but excited' to star on London stage
Described as a 'vivid, time-jumping mosaic of one woman's life', Sarandon and Riseborough will both play Mary at different ages over 70 years, with further casting to be announced.
Sarandon, who won the best actress Oscar for Atlantic City, has performed on Broadway – but has never trod the boards in the UK before.
Oscar-nominated Riseborough, who has starred in films including The Long Walk To Finchley and To Leslie, is returning to the stage after 15 years.
Sarandon said: 'I'm so honoured to be asked to be in a play during Matthew Warchus' final season at The Old Vic. Terrified but excited.'
The production will take place completely in-the-round, with the 200-year-old auditorium transformed to create a new seating configuration that will surround the stage.
Old Vic artistic director Matthew Warchus said: 'I'm delighted to be kicking off my final season at this wonderful theatre with this sensational new play from one of America's greatest living writers.
'And what a privilege to be featuring two such superlative actresses, Susan and Andrea, on the Old Vic stage – along with a large cast and creative team abounding with exceptional talent.
'I'm also really excited to be returning The Old Vic auditorium to perhaps my favourite configuration, and look forward to welcoming audiences to an unforgettable year of fully in-the-round, immersive, 360 degree performances.'
Riseborough said: 'It's an honour to be taking on the role of Mary – amongst others – in Tracy Letts' poignant play, alongside the extraordinary Susan Sarandon.
'I'm so very grateful to be working with Matthew again and thrilled to finally work at The Old Vic, a beautiful space. I look forward to us all bringing life to Matthew's remarkable vision for the play.'
Mary Page Marlowe premiered at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago in 2016 and opened off Broadway in 2018.
It will run at the Old Vic from September 23 to November 1.
Tickets are now on sale for members and will go on general sale from midday on Friday.

A major WWE match announced for SummerSlam 2025 is in serious jeopardy after a top superstar wasn't allowed to travel back to the United States. 'There's now a good chance I don't make #SummerSlam,' he captioned a video on X as he talking into his phone camera from a field. 'It's quite a week I've had. You wanna know how it's been capped off? i can't get back into America, They wouldn't let me board my flight,' he said in the video. 'I'm in England still, at my buddy's wedding – what a wedding it was. Planning to go back, train for SummerSlam, but no, no, no, no, I got blocked. **Warning – the below video includes strong language** 'Wife and I walked up to the gate, trying to check in, always goes perfectly fine. Not this time.' McIntyre noted that there was an issue with his documentation, despite never having a problem any of the other times he's been travelling. He continued: ''Drew, you don't have your US passport. I know who you are. I know you've lived there for a long time, I know you're showing me pictures of your US passport, and your global entry. ''I know exactly who you are, your property and the likes. But no, we can't let you in the country buddy. 'So my wife and I panic, we say we've got a sick animal at home, we're good people, we care about our animals, we care about people. In the end, his wife travelled back alone 'against her will' to see their pet cat, while McIntyre had to turn around and leave the airport. Ever the professional, the former world champion used the real life incident to continue his on-screen feud with Jelly Roll. 'Here I am. So what happened, what changed this trip? Jelly Roll. You know somebody, got some connections? You've got your 15 minutes of fame right now, can get away with some stuff? You're hot, soon you will not be, so you're getting it in when you can,' he quipped. 'You realised when I took off my shirt on SmackDown, you went , 'Oh my God! All that aura, I'm screwed!' Oscar winner Daniel Kaluuya's absence from spotlight fuels wild rumours
After winning an Oscar for Judas and the Black Messiah, Daniel Kaluuya has retreated from the spotlight, which has led some fans to believe that the star now leads a secret life outside of Hollywood Daniel Kaluuya's career has recently become the subject of wild speculation following his absence from the screen. Since winning the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 2021 for Judas and the Black Messiah, the British star has kept a surprisingly low profile in Hollywood blockbusters. World War II series based on 'one of the greatest books ever' is now available to stream

The gripping drama features an ensemble cast and is based on "one of the greatest books ever written". Telly fans are being urged to make sure to catch the mini-series while it is readily available, with viewers hailing the "amazing" cast and "wonderful" retelling of the book. Hulu series Catch-22 first appeared on the small screen in 2019, as an adaptation of Joseph Heller's celebrated 1961 novel of the same name. The series follows the journey of Captain John Yossarian (played by Christopher Abbott) and his comrades during World War II as they carry out their duties for their country. Their freedom depends on finishing a set number of operations. Yet, precisely when they approach their liberation, the mission tally is consistently raised, throwing them back into danger, reports the Express. The ensemble cast also features George Clooney as Scheisskopf, Emmy-winning Argo star Kyle Chandler as Colonel Cathcart, Godfather of Harlem's Rafi Gavron as Aarfy, Reacher's Daniel David Stewart as Milo, and Major Crimes' Graham Patrick Martin as Orr, amongst others. One TV fan gave the show a 10/10 rating on IMDb. They said: "Fantastic. The entire cast of this series is amazing. "It has all the drama and humor but not as slapstick as the movie. I've been glued to the TV since it was released. You will fall in love with these characters and the actors who portray them." Speaking about Abbott's performance as John Yossarian, they added: "His face is so emotive and he captured the complexity of his character."
