Cleveland Browns 53-man roster projection: Post-minicamp prediction include close QB pick
So, in other words, it is a perfect time to take a swing at projecting how the Browns' initial 53-man roster will look when it's unveiled by 4 p.m. Aug. 26.

Naturally, with the Browns having only done about three weeks' worth of on-field team activities, there's some — maybe even a lot of — guesswork going to be involved in some of the spots. That's especially true in the areas where the best way to evaluate players is once the full equipment is put on and the full-contact drills begin in camp.
That's not going to happen for more than a month. Until training camp gets here, though, here's a guess at how the initial 53 will look for the Browns.

The next time a projection comes out, it may very well have Joe Flacco and not Pickett on this list. If this had been written on an even-numbered minute instead of an odd-numbered one, it could've been Flacco and not Pickett. Long story short, it feels very much like it's an either/or situation with the two experienced quarterbacks who are part of the four-man competition, and Pickett gets the initial nod because of two things. One is the fact the Browns traded to acquire him first, on the first day of the free-agency period, and the other is the number of reps he got in the two open OTAs and three minicamp practices. Of course, all of that goes out the window once training camp gets started, which is why it very well could end up being Flacco. The one thing that seems obvious, though, is that both rookies seem like safe bets to be on the roster at the end of the day.

Coach Kevin Stefanski and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees love to utilize tight ends in their offensive schemes. That's why it feels like four tight ends will end up on the roster, although another option could end up being a weekly game day elevation of a tight end off the practice squad if there's a squeeze at another position.

This is a group to watch once training camp actually gets underway — mostly because there are a lot of variables that could shuffle some of these names around. Jeudy is a definite, and Tillman and Thrash both look that way. Carter's spot is as much because of his work in the return game as anything. Johnson will have training camp to prove he was worth the one-year, vet-minimum, non-guaranteed deal he was given in April. Davis, meanwhile, has garnered rave reviews for his work in the offseason program and could be the surprise of the group. Obviously, Michael Woods II and David Bell will be in consideration if they can stay on the field.

This group needs to get on the field with actual full-contact reps to really get a feel for the way they could fall. There's also the question about Hall's knee injury, which he has been rehabbing during the offseason program. That could limit some of his preseason reps, which could open the door for someone else, such as Sam Kamara, who has been a favorite of the defensive coaches over the last couple of years and could easily edge someone out of a spot. Okwara's special teams chops could make him extra valuable.

Needham's addition gives the Browns the kind of versatile defensive back that allows for a bit of flexibility. He can play both safety and cornerback, which means they can keep him and maintain a balance between both spots. Tony Brown II and Myles Harden are two players who could find their way onto the roster with special teams work.

Loanees the first to return Johnson quite reasonably expects that Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian will start a little earlier, as they didn't make it as deep in the CWC as we did. Then there are others who weren't taken on the tour and have already returned to Cobham to start their preseason – but as Johnson points out: 'they are returning loanees who are expected to be sold.' 'Chelsea have just two friendlies, against Bayer Leverkusen and Milan, before their opening Premier League game versus Crystal Palace.' So for all the fun we had in the USA, we may pay the price in the early weeks of the season as we look to get up to speed and face teams who are a month ahead in terms of preparation. Don't be surprised by a few bad results, and a rather mixed up team in those early weeks as everyone plays catch up.

They say "keep your eye on the ball," but all eyes were on Cal Raleigh when the Mariner's faced off against the Yankees on Tuesday evening. The Yankees won the game 10-3, but Mariner's catcher Raleigh had an all-star moment of his own on live TV. Things briefly went pear-shaped for fans watching the regional sports channel YES Network on July 8 when broadcasters — and cameramen — focused in on Raleigh's butt. "They gave him the nickname 'Big Dumper' because he has a pretty large posterior," said longtime Yankees announcer Michael Kay. With a laugh, Kay goes further to explain the lore behind Raleigh's behind. "His former teammate Jarred Kelenic said he hated it," Kay says of the cheeky nickname, "then they're making t-shirts about it and then he did come around." By this time in the broadcast, the cameramen working the game managed to capture an extreme closeup of Raleigh's rear end. "I don't know if we need that, guys," Kay says to them before following up with an awe-struck, "goodness." While Raleigh may not have liked his nickname at first, he has since grown fond of the affectionate alias. "It gets the fans involved and they have fun with it," the Mariner's star told The Athletic in 2023, "and that's what it's all about." Raleigh's fans were happy to get behind the trend, making merchandise of their own to support the caked-up catcher. "In Seattle they sell number 29 jerseys with the name 'Big Dumper' on the back," said Kay in Tuesday's broadcast. Apparently those jerseys are quite popular in the rainy city. "You see more 'Big Dumper' jerseys than you do Raleigh jerseys," Raleigh told GQ Sports in June, "so they just sell them on the rack now." Bulls trade proposal sends Coby White to West contender for coveted 15.3 ppg forward
This offseason has been a quiet but wild ride for the Chicago Bulls. Over the past year, the Bulls' roster has changed dramatically. After finishing 2024 with a team built around the star duo of DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine, both of those wings have found themselves in Sacramento, with Chicago's youth movement taking over. This offseason has had plenty of twists and turns around the league, but the Bulls have mostly stayed out of the spotlight. However, as free agency has wound down, Chicago's lack of a deal with Josh Giddey has begun stealing headlines. Of course, the Bulls aren't the only team in that boat with a restricted free agent, and they could swoop in and make a deal with one of those other squads. As suggested by Bleacher Nation's Elias Schuster, the Bulls could make a deal for Jonathan Kuminga. A potential sign-and-trade could see Kuminga securing his desired contract while Chicago sends back Coby White on his $12.8 million deal. In the proposed trade, the Bulls would also get Trayce Jackson-Davis and a top-eight protected first-round pick. As Schuster mentioned, the Warriors simply need to get off of Kuminga before things get even worse in the Bay. While giving up Jackson-Davis and a future pick might not be ideal, getting back another proven scorer in White, who could be a perfect fit off the bench, would be hard for Golden State to turn down, especially at his salary. This deal won't necessarily solve all of the problems for either team, but it could be a step in the right direction for both franchises.
