The former UCF head coach, now offensive coordinator, has chosen not to participate in CFB '26, the football program confirmed to the Tallahassee Democrat on May 29.
Both Malzahn and White are entering their first seasons as coordinators on Norvell's coaching staff following a 2-10 season.
Malzahn left his head coaching gig to join Norvell's coaching staff after lasting four seasons at UCF. White joined FSU's staff in December after his two seasons with Nebraska.

While there are clear early favorites to win both NBA Rookie of the Year (LINK) and the Finals in 2026, the MVP race looks wide-open, even if it once again comes down to voters making a choice between Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. 2026 Opening NBA MVP Odds Below is a look at how DraftKings, FanDuel, bet365 and BetMGM rank the top contenders for this award as of June 28, 2025. Jokic (2021, 2022 and 2024) and SGA (2025) have not only won MVP in four of the last five seasons, but they also were the top two vote-getters in each of the last two seasons. Jokic has now finished five straight seasons as either the MVP or the runner-up, while SGA is seeking his third straight season as at least a top-two finisher in MVP voting. Gilgeous-Alexander is coming off a huge regular season individually (32.7 points, 6.4 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game), but the Thunder's 64-18 record was arguably the biggest reason why he beat Jokic for MVP. Somehow, Denver's star center put up significantly better numbers in 2024-25 than he did in any of his three MVP campaigns. Jokic recorded career-high scoring (29.6 points per game) and passing (10.2 apg) numbers last year -- while also averaging 12.7 rebounds per game -- to lead the Nuggets to a 50-32 record. This year's playoffs made it clear that A) yes, SGA was plenty deserving of every accolade he received but also B) there was no supporting cast in the league quite like OKC's. That likely means that if Jokic comes even close to replicating his historic 2024-25 numbers in 2025-26, he'll secure his fourth MVP trophy. Betting on Jokic does come with the risk that the 30-year-old declines a bit in Year 11, but he's nevertheless the best/safest 2026 MVP bet right now, especially at +225 at BetMGM. Best 2026 MVP Longshot: Victor Wembanyama Let's start with an honorable mention. Luka Doncic, who just turned 26 in February, has a shot to lead the league in scoring in his first full season as a Laker. But at 8-to-1 or shorter, he's not the most tempting longshot on the board. If we're looking only at players longer than 10-to-1, no one offers more upside than 21-year-old Spurs star Victor Wembanyama, assuming he's healthy. Wemby lived up to the massive hype as a rookie in 2023-24, running away with Rookie of the Year honors and nearly making history as the first rookie to win Defensive Player of the Year. He was also having an outstanding encore in 2024-25 before his season ended in February due to deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. Coming off a serious injury like that, his health this year is a legit question mark, but he has a real chance to put up MVP numbers if he can stay on the court. The 7-foot-3 Wembanyama feels like a lock to win Defensive Player of The Year every season he's healthy, and he's on a different level offensively than your typical DPOY contender. Wembanyama flashed a solid 3-point stroke as a rookie (32.5 percent from 3 on 5.5 3PA per game), but he quickly reached another gear as a shooter in Year 2, shooting 35 percent from deep on 8.8 3PA per game. He also averaged 11 rebounds per game and shot nearly 59 percent on 2-pointers last year, with a remarkable effective field goal percentage of 55.9 on 18.6 field-goal attempts per game. So, the question is not if -- but when -- Wembanyama becomes a fixture in the annual MVP conversation, and there's good reason to believe he could make that leap in 2025-26. The NBA is currently full of young players with sky-high ceilings, but Wembanyama's is unlike anyone else's. As long as San Antonio can 1) take a step forward and reach the playoffs in 2025-26 (which is admittedly no sure thing) and 2) keep Wembanyama healthy, he could absolutely be a factor in the MVP race. With all this in mind, he's well worth a flier right now, especially at +1600 at DraftKings. Newsweek may earn an affiliate commission if you sign up through the links in this article. Steelers Legend Makes Surprising Aaron Rodgers Prediction: ‘Real Ugly, Real Fast'

Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison has a bold prediction for quarterback Aaron Rodgers in 2025. It's difficult to predict what version of 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers the Pittsburgh Steelers are getting in 2025. But former Steelers linebacker James Harrison doesn't have a lot of confidence that it will be a good one. Advertisement 'I think they can make it work if they winning,' Harrison said on the 'Nightcap' podcast. 'If they start losing and it's looking like they ain't gonna make above .500, I think it gets real ugly, real fast. To the point of they may just be like, 'You know what, let's let this dude go midseason. For Aaron, let's just get him outta here and put one of these other quarterbacks in.'' Cutting Rodgers would be very surprising, especially after the Steelers waited several months for him to sign with them this offseason. Parting ways with Rodgers midseason wouldn't benefit Pittsburgh financially, either. His one-year, $13.65 million contract includes $10 million guaranteed, so the four-time NFL MVP would have to make things very uncomfortable to make the team move on. Advertisement Still, the 2025 season is all about going out on a good note for Rodgers after he had a very disappointing two-year stint with the New York Jets. New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers during a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 20, 2024. — Ed Thompson / Steelers Now In 2023, he suffered a season-ending torn Achilles on just the fourth offensive snap of the year. And then last season, he led the Jets to a 5-12 finish. So it's safe to assume he would do whatever it takes to not be released in what he believes will be his final season in the NFL. 'Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is it,' Rodgers said. 'You know, that's why we just did a one-year deal. The Steelers didn't need to put any extra years on that or anything, so this was really about finishing with a lot of love and fun and peace for the career that I've had. I mean, I've played 20 freaking years. It's been a long run and I've enjoyed it. What better place to finish than (with) one of the cornerstone franchises of the NFL.' American Press Male Athlete of the Year: Vital determined to be Hamilton's best, three-sport star sets high goals

Javon Vital was named the game MVP on Friday as Hamilton Christian beat Southern Lab 61-58 in the Select Division IV state championship game. He had 20 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, two blocks and three steals. (Rodrick Anderson / American Press) S ince he could pick up a ball, Javon Vital had the drive to be the best that he could be, no matter what. And one sport was never enough. His first sport was baseball at about 5 years old, but through the years, he tried others and succeeded at all of them. This past season, the sophomore led Hamilton Christian to its first state basketball championship, earned all-state first team and American Press All-Southwest Louisiana honors in two sports. For that, he is the American Press Male Athlete of the Year. 'If you want to be the best, you have to put yourself into those moments and be ready for those moments.' One of his biggest moments was in the Select Division IV state championship game at Burton Coliseum on March 14. Trailing state champion Southern Lab, Vital hit a floater in the lane and scored on an offensive rebound for a 59-58 lead with 30 seconds left. He was named the title game MVP with 20 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, two blocks and three steals to beat the Kittens 61-58. He had a triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in the semifinals. 'It felt great,' Vital said. 'We had an amazing team and amazing players. We played together. It was exciting. I knew it was going to happen, but I didn't know when it was going to happen. We just kept our heads down, let God work and it happened this year.' He ended the season with 15.5 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals a game. He was the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A MVP. He started his sophomore season with a stellar football campaign, leading the Warriors to a 9-2 record and the second round of the playoffs. He was one of two players in Southwest Louisiana to rush and pass for 1,000 yards. He ran for 1,503 yards and 25 touchdowns on 171 carries. He completed 81 of 136 passes for 1,239 yards, 18 TDs and five interceptions. His four return TDs earned him LSWA Class 1A all-state honors. He was the American Press All-Southwest Louisiana Small Schools offensive MVP. In a Week 7 win over Elton, Vital accounted for six touchdowns with 246 yards on the ground. He made big plays on defense, too. He helped seal a 46-40 win over St. John in Week 4 with a late interception and finished the season with two interceptions and seven pass breakups. 'When times got hard, my team trusted me to make big decisions and make the right decision,' he said. In track, Vital won the District 4-1A 100-meter dash title in 10.79 seconds and was the Class 1A, Region II long jump champion at 21 feet, 11 inches and second in the triple jump (42-11 3/4). Vital said playing multiple sports strengthens him year-round. He said he's received multiple offers from Division I schools for football, including LSU, and hopes to compete in track at the college level. 'Each sport helps you with something for the next sport,' Vital said. 'It is good if you do every sport. Track helps you with football, basketball helps you with baseball.' He said he feels driven by everyone around him, especially his younger brothers Ja'vonte and Ja'monte. 'It is my little brothers, my community and the people in Lake Charles,' Vital said. 'My little brothers look up to me. I feel like I failed them (if I don't succeed).' Vital said he has a strong feeling that his future holds much more. 'I feel great,' he said. 'I have more to accomplish. This isn't nothing. 'I haven't reached the end goal yet. I have to keep working and stay humble. I want to be the best athlete to ever come out of Hamilton Christian, and just put my city on the map.'
