The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) has joined forces with Wego, the leading travel app and online marketplace in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), to launch a summer campaign promoting Morocco as a top travel destination for regional tourists.
Designed to boost Morocco's visibility among Gulf and MENA travelers, the campaign highlights the country's diverse offerings, from cultural landmarks and historic cities to seaside escapes and mountain adventures.
The promotion showcases popular destinations such as the blue-washed town of Chefchaouen, the sun-soaked beaches of Agadir, and the scenic trails of the Atlas Mountains. It also shines a spotlight on major cities like Marrakech, Rabat, and Fez, known for their blend of heritage and modern charm.
Cultural immersion is a key focus. Travelers are encouraged to explore local craftsmanship, attend festivals, and sample Moroccan cuisine, from medina street food to rooftop restaurants serving classics like couscous and pastilla.
The campaign also appeals to those seeking a more laid-back escape, with coastal towns like Essaouira and El Jadida offering ocean views, fresh seafood, and artistic atmospheres.
«We're excited to collaborate with the Moroccan National Tourist Office to broaden the horizons of our users and introduce them to the richness Morocco has to offer», said Mamoun Hmidan, Chief Business Officer at Wego. «Our goal is to make it easier for travelers to find meaningful experiences, whether they're looking for adventure, history, or relaxation».
The campaign includes destination guides, digital promotions, and influencer-driven content. According to Rachid Hamzaoui, ONMT's Director for the Middle East and Asia, the partnership aims to position Morocco as «a top summer choice» for travelers across the region.

Italian racing sailboat Acrobatica found on Moroccan shores after 1300 mile drift

A racing monohull, the Class40 Acrobatica, has been found washed ashore near El Ouatia in southern Morocco, according to Ouest France. The Italian sailboat sank in the Atlantic in July 2024 following a violent collision with a tanker during the Transat Québec–Saint-Malo race. The skipper, Alberto Riva, and his two crew members were rescued by the cargo ship involved in the incident and later dropped off in the Azores. The boat, however, was left adrift and presumed lost at sea. «It drifted more than 1,300 miles, carried by wind and currents, before reaching the Moroccan coast near El Ouatia, off the Canary Islands», Riva wrote on Instagram. «After all this time, it feels like I've recovered a part of myself», he added, visibly moved. Riva's team is now working to recover the vessel. The sailor plans to travel to Morocco after his next race to oversee the operation and ensure the site is cleaned up. The story of the Class40 Acrobatica joins the rare and haunting ranks of ghost ships that reappear long after vanishing at sea.

Hassan II Foundation launches 26th cultural stay for Moroccan children abroad

The Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans Living Abroad is hosting the 26th edition of its «Cultural Stay» program for summer 2025 at its socio-cultural center in Kenitra, running from July 5 to August 19. This educational and cultural initiative aims to deepen the connection of Moroccan expatriate children to their homeland and strengthen their cultural identity through a summer experience blending entertainment, learning, and exposure to Moroccan heritage. This year, the program welcomes 960 children aged 9 to 13, divided into four consecutive ten-day sessions: July 5–14, July 17–26, July 29–August 7, and August 10–19. Participants come from various countries across Europe, Africa, and the Americas, including France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom, Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Canada, the United States, and Palestine. The first session opened with 237 children from France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, and Tunisia—136 boys and 101 girls. France leads in participation with 121 children, followed by Italy with 41, then Spain and Belgium with 25 and 24 respectively. The program offers a wide range of artistic, educational, and sports activities, including art workshops, cultural visits to landmarks such as the Mohammed VI Museum and Bouregreg Valley, film screenings, and cultural evenings. Sports activities include football, swimming, handball, volleyball, and video games, some culminating in competitions with symbolic prizes. Since its launch in 1998, the «Cultural Stay» program has benefited over 17,782 children out of 20,607 allocated spots, achieving a 91% completion rate. Participation has been predominantly male (65%), with encouraging growth in female attendance in recent years.
