Man caught hurling his elderly dog over a fence and onto concrete path
A man has been banned from keeping pets for five years after shocking footage showed him throw his elderly Staffordshire bull terrier over a gate.
Kieran O'Connor, 35, hurled the dog onto a concrete path, before opening the gate and walking in himself.
CCTV caught the self-employed gardener from Liverpool raising his hands and launching the animal into the air, leaving him 'exposed to acute pain'.
The footage shows Prince falling on his side and stumbling, as O'Connor seems unbothered.
A member of the public sent the clip to the RSPCA, who launched an investigation.
O'Connor was taken to court, where he admitted failing to meet Prince's needs to be protected from pain, suffering, injury and disease by the 'infliction of physical abuse and emotional distress' in breach of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
At Liverpool & Knowsley Magistrates' Court on July 2, he was given a community order which involves 26 programme requirement days, and ordered to pay costs of £500 and a victim surcharge of £114.
RSPCA Inspector Caren Goodman said in a statement that she went to the defendant's then address in Kirkby, Merseyside, in October last year.
Accompanied by police, she got no answer by knocking the door, but could see Prince through a window, sitting on the front room sofa.
The police officer who was with her called the defendant's number – which was advertised on his trailer parked outside – but he refused to attend the address.
After waiting 25 minutes, the officer gained entry to the property using a search warrant, and Prince was taken into RSPCA care.
She said Prince had 'ideal body condition', was 'bright, alert and active' and showed 'no obvious signs of distress'.
When she spoke to the defendant the following day, he claimed he was 'putting his dog over the fence' because his neighbours had accused Prince of attacking their dogs.
A vet at RSPCA Greater Manchester Animal Hospital who viewed the footage signed a Veterinary Certificate supporting Prince's removal from the house.
Although a full examination revealed that he had not sustained any fractures, the vet said he had been put through unnecessary distress and suffering, and he was given pain relief. More Trending
After the hearing, Inspector Goodman said: 'The most surprising thing about this case is that Kieran did not seem to understand that what he did was wrong.
'This attitude meant that he would not sign Prince over to us – even when the prosecution had run its course.
'We had to obtain an order from the court to make sure we could take him into our care and get him into a safe and secure environment.
'Nobody should be cruel or neglectful towards any animal and the kind of violence we saw here is absolutely unacceptable.'

A mass shooting that broke out in Philadelphia and left three people dead and 10 injured appeared like a scene out of a war zone. CCTV footage from outside a home showed more than a half dozen people taking cover behind a short wall on the porch as countless gunshots rang out. The 20-second Ring camera clip showed women and teenagers taking cover on top of each other and squirming while at least two men stood up with guns and opened fire toward the street. Among those who were injured were a 15-year-old girl, two 17-year-old boys and a 19-year-old man in critical condition. Other victims aged 18 to 24 suffered more minor injuries. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel condemned the perpetrators for engaging in the shootout with children nearby, and said it was 'hard to understand'. 'You see the size of this block – individuals just shooting randomly into houses, into cars,' said Bethel, according to WPVI. 'I mean, this is coward, wannabe thug stuff.' He added that 'we will get to the root cause and we will bring those individuals to justice'. Police have apprehended at least one person with a weapon. The shooting was 'past frustrating' for Tyrique Glasgow, who is executive director of Young Chances Foundation, which works to end violence and give young men opportunities in Grays Ferry. Glasgow said he knows some of the victims. Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 20, and his brother, Muhammad Amaad, 26, are alleged to have attacked the officers after Mr Amaaz allegedly headbutted a customer at a Starbucks in Terminal 2 on July 23 last year. Today the jury at Liverpool Crown Court watched the footage from opposite angles which the prosecution says captures a 'high level of violence' used by the pair. Minutes after the incident in Terminal 2, police approached both of the men at the pay station in the terminal's car park. Mr Amaaz resisted as officers tried to arrest him while Mr Amaad then intervened, the prosecution said. Mr Amaaz threw 10 punches, including one to the face of PC Lydia Ward, which knocked her off the floor, junior counsel Adam Birkby said. He also allegedly kicked firearms officer PC Zachary Marsden and hit PC Ellie Cook twice with his elbow. He is said to have punched PC Marsden from behind and had a hold of him before PC Cook used her Taser. Mr Amaad is alleged to have aimed six punches at firearms officer PC Marsden. The footage shown to the jury allegedly shows the officers arrival at the terminal, their attempts to arrest the brothers and their exchanges. It shows PC Ward appearing to say 'Oi, you b*****d' before she falls to the floor and screams. PC Cook points her Taser at one of the defendants and can be heard saying: 'Stay on the floor, stay on the floor whatever you do.' 'Get back, get back,' PC Ward then says. Footage also shows PC Marsden appear to approach the defendant who is on the floor and kicks out at him. Mr Birkby told the court: 'Mr Amaaz, while prone, lifts his head towards the officers. PC Marsden said he approached the pay station area with the intention of taking 'immediate control' and escorting the suspect from the crowd to arrest him where he would have radio signal. He said he placed his hands on Mr Amaaz's left arm, but said he was 'met with immediate resistance' and that he felt the suspect 'clench his fists'. PC Marsden said a change of plan was needed so he handcuffed Mr Amaaz and said he then felt an 'immense weight of pressure' to his right side and felt his Glock 17 semi-automatic pistol move across his leg and around his body. He told the court: 'My initial fear is that someone is trying to get my gun. If someone gained my firearm it would pose an immediate lethal threat to anyone in the vicinity. 'The risk of my firearm being taken from me did not stop until we gained control. 'There was more than one person involved here – the aggressor I was trying to arrest and possibly an accomplice who was a much bigger physical build than me and much taller.'
