Terrifying moment war zone-like mass shooting leaves three dead in Philadelphia

Metro18 hours ago
A mass shooting that broke out in Philadelphia and left three people dead and 10 injured appeared like a scene out of a war zone.
CCTV footage from outside a home showed more than a half dozen people taking cover behind a short wall on the porch as countless gunshots rang out.
The 20-second Ring camera clip showed women and teenagers taking cover on top of each other and squirming while at least two men stood up with guns and opened fire toward the street.
Others could be seen hiding behind cars across the street.
Gunfire erupted on the 1500 block of South Etting Street in the Grays Ferry neighborhood just before 1am on Monday.
Police were patrolling the area as people gathered and played loud music, when dozens of shots were fired.
Three men, aged 19, 23 and 24, were killed in the massacre.
Among those who were injured were a 15-year-old girl, two 17-year-old boys and a 19-year-old man in critical condition. Other victims aged 18 to 24 suffered more minor injuries.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel condemned the perpetrators for engaging in the shootout with children nearby, and said it was 'hard to understand'.
'You see the size of this block – individuals just shooting randomly into houses, into cars,' said Bethel, according to WPVI.
'I mean, this is coward, wannabe thug stuff.'
He added that 'we will get to the root cause and we will bring those individuals to justice'.
Police have apprehended at least one person with a weapon.
The shooting was 'past frustrating' for Tyrique Glasgow, who is executive director of Young Chances Foundation, which works to end violence and give young men opportunities in Grays Ferry.
Glasgow said he knows some of the victims. More Trending
'They are working to get jobs and going to vocational school, and to have their lives stopped by gun violence is something that is frustrating and painful,' he told the news outlet.
The shooting happened during a community cookout.
'We are going to come together and clean it up, but the blood and the trash and the food and the activities that we are supposed to have today for our summer camp, we had to put on pause today,' Glasgow said.
It happened after a violent Fourth of July weekend, with 46 people shot from Friday to Monday, according to Bethel.

WWE superstars Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins' beach house was targeted by burglars hours after this week's Raw, it has been claimed. Euan Johnston: Police investigating 2016 murder launch new search for missing gun

Detectives investigating the "cold-blooded" execution of a man almost nine years ago are searching an area of land where they believe the murder weapon could have been hidden. Euan Johnston, 26, was shot twice in the head while sitting in his car at red traffic lights in Glasgow on 15 November 2016. David Scott was found guilty of Mr Johnston's murder in 2018 and received a life sentence, with at least 22 years in jail. Police Scotland detectives believe more than one person was at the scene, and the case remains open. As part of the continued enquiries, a detailed search is taking place around 100 miles away, near the Soroba Road area of Oban, Argyll and Bute, in the hunt for the gun. The search, in a grass embankment area near Oban Auction Mart, is expected to last several days. Detective Superintendent Peter Sharp said: "We know from our enquiries that there was more than one person involved in the murder of Euan Johnston and we are determined to bring those responsible for his death to justice. "Although his murder was almost nine years ago, time is no barrier for justice and we are working to get answers for Mr Johnston's relatives. "They have been informed of these new searches and specialist officers are supporting them during this difficult time. We will keep them updated as our investigations continue." Father-of-two Mr Johnston was sitting in his Audi RS4 in Glasgow's Scotland Street when he was targeted late at night. During Scott's trial at the High Court in Glasgow, jurors heard how Mr Johnston was chatting to his partner on the phone when an Audi Q5 drove alongside his vehicle and three shots rang out. Two of the bullets hit Mr Johnston in the head. The victim suffered a catastrophic brain injury and later died in hospital. Following Scott's conviction, the senior investigating officer at the time branded it a "cold-blooded" murder. As the new search gets under way, DS Sharp said: "As well as our searches, I am appealing for anyone with information, and who may not have already spoken to us, to do so now. "A significant amount of time has passed since Mr Johnston's murder and we understand that allegiances have may have changed over the time. "If you have any information, no matter how insignificant, please come forward. All new information will be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated."

School in lockdown in Liverpool after man in balaclava fires shots outside

Pupils have been told to stay indoors after shots were fired at a black cab in Merseyside. A man wearing a balaclava and riding a Sur-ron electric bike had fired twice at a black Hackney cab on York Terrace at 11.15am on Wednesday. The taxi sped off while the masked shooter is believed to have ridden off in the direction of Everton Valley. There are no reports of any injuries, at this early stage. Our Lady Immaculate Primary School nearby was put into lockdown, Merseyside Police has confirmed. Chief Inspector Andy Hughes said: 'The investigation is in the early stages but this was clearly a reckless act in a residential area in broad daylight. 'At this stage we have not received any information to suggest anyone has been injured but urgent enquiries are being carried out to trace the taxi and identify the bike rider. 'We would ask anyone who was in the area of York Terrace or Northumberland Terrace at around 11am today who saw the bike or has any further information or dashcam footage which could assist us to get in touch. 'We know all too well that tragedies can occur when people choose to arm themselves with guns and it is vital that the public comes forward and tells us what they know so we can take immediate and positive action.'
