The Hollyoaks moment Tom Cunningham returns after a year - but with a twist
This is the moment that Hollyoaks welcomes back Tom Cunningham (Ellis Hollins) after a year-long absence.
The beloved character, a show mainstay for two decades, was last seen in August of last year fleeing the village with sister Cindy Cunningham (Stephanie Waring) after they discovered Dave Williams (Dominic Power) was none other than Blue.
Fans have longed for a comeback for the character, particularly since the return of his one true nemesis Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix), who – despite being declared dead over a decade ago – is still very much alive .
But just what brings Tom back to the village?
Well, perhaps the more apt question is just what has landed him jail, given that the former market owner is serving a stretch behind bars!
Quite an unexpected comeback story for Tom, who was a stickler for the rules and always on hand to tell someone off for not following instructions to a T.
If you're eager for a look at the character's return then you needn't wait any longer as Metro has his first moment back on-screen, which you can watch above.

Donny Clarke (Louis Emerick) pays Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey) a visit in prison, urging him to name Clare as the real killer of DI Banks (Drew Cain).
DI Banks, as viewers know, was shot by Dillon Ray (Nathaniel Dass) earlier this year, with Rex – who groomed the teen – ultimately taking the wrap. More Trending
With Rex refusing to name Clare as the killer, Donny turns to Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson), who pays Rex another visit. Rex reiterates his desire to take the blame for Banks' death.
But as he makes reference to Clare Devine, Tom is seen nearby – and it's safe to say that his interest is piqued.
The character subsequently gets in touch with Donny, hoping to offer some information on his nemesis.

Evidence leaves the Dingles convinced of which Emmerdale character killed Nate
Since the villagers found out that Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) had been murdered and left to rot at the bottom of the lake, the finger of blame has been pointed towards both Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Tracy Shankley (Amy Walsh). The evidence has stacked up against both – Cain for beating his son and disowning him on the day he died, Tracy for the discovery of Nate's phone in her house, her using his credit card, and generally just looking shifty as heck. But a new bit of evidence comes to light that all but seals the deal for one of them, even though we all know that have-a-go-hero John is the real killer. On the day of the memorial and still barred from attending, Cain slates Tracy of robbing him of his final goodbye. Caleb Miligan (William Ash) tries to get his brother to relax but just as he does so, Nate's mum arrives in time to see Cain seemingly enjoying himself on the day she's to bury her son. While this is bad news for Cain, there's more to come his way. He stumbles upon the most convincing argument and most damning evidence yet that Tracy killed her husband – Sam (James Hooton) reveals that Tracy is set to get Nate's full life insurance payout. More Trending It's a tried and tested motive, and hard-up Tracy certainly fits the bill. Cain throws this new information and accusation in Tracy's face, and now even more convinced she's the killer, he tells her there's no way she's stopping him attending his own son's funeral. While Cain doesn't usually make Tracy fearful, seeing DS Walsh arrive at the church, followed by the entire Dingle posse, is enough to put her on edge. Tracy is so perturbed she's unable to go ahead with the eulogy and John (Oliver Farnworth) is forced to take over, which appears to be more guilty behaviour. Horror legend gets honest over why M3GAN 2.0 sequel flopped at box office
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Jason Blum has unpacked the reasons behind M3GAN 2.0 flopping at the box office, after it was brutally panned by critics. The horror sequel focused on the murderous doll (Amie Donald) returning to face off against military bot Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno) after the newcomer becomes self-aware and targeting her creators. Allison Williams reprised her role as Gemma, Megan's creator, with Violet McGraw, Jenna Davis, Brian Jordan Alvarez and also returning Jen Van Epps. However, while the original became a runaway success and made $181million at the global box office, lightning didn't strike twice as the follow-up earned $31m and a 58% Rotten Tomatoes score. City AM's Victoria Luxford branded it 'one of the bigger disappointments of the year', while the Cinesnob Podcast fumed that bosses 'made a colossal mistake replacing the action-movie gibberish'. Blumhouse producer Jason had his say on the response in a new interview, revealing film bosses were convinced the robot doll was 'like Superman'. During an appearance on the Town podcast, host Matt Belloni got right to the point, asking him: 'Why didn't this movie work?' 'We all thought Megan was like Superman,' he began. 'We could do anything to her. We could change genres, we could put her in the summer, we could make her look different. We could turn her from a bad guy into a good guy. 'We classically over-thought how powerful people's engagement was, really, with her.' Sharing a 'three-part' explanation on the flop, he continued: 'The first part is we decided to genre swap – audience was not ready to genre swap … People wanted more Megan just like she is. 'Every time you do a sequel, you have to ride this very fine line – if you make it too close to the first movie, everyone says, 'You ripped off the first movie, why'd you make this movie? What a waste of time.' 'And if you make it too far away from the first movie, everyone says, 'Why the f**k is this a sequel? This has nothing to do with the first movie and we're p***ed about it'. 'The second thing is [that] we thought she could live in the summer. We thought, 'We're going from a little movie to a tentpole!'' For the third reason, Jason pointed to a common criticism that they had faced from fans who questioned why the sequel was more action-heavy, compared to the scary first movie. 'The third thing is, when you genre switch, your execution has to be A+,' he insisted. 'Gerard [Johnstone] is a terrific director – Gerard is someone who could solve almost everything you throw at him, but needs time. 'On the first M3GAN, he had all the time in the world. I don't think we even had a release date until the movie got finished. On this, again, we got over our skis too far. Summer movie, change the genre, set the date. 'We got too excited by Megan and she didn't work, so that's what happened. That's the story of M3GAN.' After the MEGAN 2.0 trailer first dropped, many voiced their concerns that the horror elements that made the first movie so iconic had been stripped out and replaced with action scenes. Touching on the fears in an interview with Metro, director Gerard promised that the 'horror DNA' was still as present. 'For me, it's an extension of the character,' he told us. 'We're conscious of the fact that she's this murder-bot, but if we're going to have a redemption story for her, then why not move into more of the action realm, and espionage? 'I just thought, if a technology like Megan existed, this is the most obvious way to use it. Instead of drones, you can send in something that looks like a human and it's a much more targeted way of carrying out strikes. More Trending 'As soon as I looked at it from a logical point of view, it just made sense that the genre would have to change.' 'Having said that there are a lot of sequences in the movie that are anchored in a horror DNA,' he insisted. 'Especially Megan's lair, for example. But it's a different kind of horror. It's more mood and atmosphere, and it's undoubtedly more fun. 'We've taken the villain from the first movie and put her center stage. By virtue of doing that, it's not going to be quite as creepy as the first movie, but it's a different experience, and one that I still think is a hell of a lot of fun.' Got a story? EastEnders legend puts in a bid to secure the Vic as he lords it over everyone
When EastEnders' Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) announced she would be selling The Queen Vic last month, it marked the end of an era for the iconic soap boozer. With the pub now on the market, an unexpected potential buyer enters the frame next week – but they won't exactly make for a popular new owner. As the week begins, current landlady Linda informs Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) of a change in strategy to sell The Vic, revealing it is set to go to auction. This news soon reaches local entrepreneur Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt), whose business brain is sent into overdrive. He then tells mum Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) and her partner Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman) that he wants to rebuild the Beale empire and is going to bid for The Vic. Of course, with this being Ian Beale we're talking about, the idea of becoming the pub's new landlord goes straight to his head, and he wastes no time in lording this over Kat and her cousin Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner). Stacey's mum Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) soon starts to worry about losing her cleaning job at The Vic if the Beales take over, given her recent history with Kathy over her affair with Jean's ex Harvey. This prompts Kat and Stacey to come up with a plan, and Stacey later tells a furious Ian she has won £100k on a scratchcard and will be bidding for The Vic too. But is everything about Stacey's windfall really as it seems? Either way, it looks like it will be Kat who will win the bidding war, as reports have already claimed she will be The Vic's new Queen. She previously ran the pub between 2010 and 2013 with husband Alfie Moon (Shane Richie), before Linda and husband Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) took over following their arrival in Walford. Ian has also enjoyed a stint behind the bar too, as he lived in the boozer with Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) in 2020, after the Carters temporarily sold the place to Sharon. A bizarre turn of events saw longtime best friends Sharon and Ian get married, but Ian had no idea that she had been plotting revenge against him after finding out he had inadvertently been responsible for the death of her son Dennis Rickman (Bleu Landau). More Trending High-camp scenes saw Sharon try to kill Ian with a poisoned Christmas pudding, but she soon had second thoughts and revealed the truth, before eventually forcing Ian to leave Walford. Meanwhile, the pub was eventually sold back to the Carters in 2021, and Linda now owns it with her mum Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), following Mick's presumed drowning in 2022.
