Five hurt in late night bus accident in Sabah
The bus, carrying 22 passengers and a conductor, was en route to Semporna from the state capital when the incident occurred at KM15 of Jalan Ranau-Tamparuli around 10pm on Friday.
Ranau OCPD Supt Mursalin Mahmud said the 65-year-old driver is believed to have been speeding when he allegedly attempted to overtake on a double line and sideswiped a car being driven by a 30-year-old man.
The bus then slammed into the rear of another vehicle driven by a 51-year-old man, and was then pushed forward into a trailer in front, he said.

'Five people were injured – the bus driver, three bus passengers and one of the other drivers.
'All of them were sent to Hospital Ranau for treatment,' Supt Mursalin added.
He said blood and urine samples would also be taken from the bus driver to test for alcohol or drugs.
He said the driver had three unpaid traffic summonses.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
Dashcam footage of the incident, including clips allegedly showing the bus entering the wrong lane and narrowly avoiding oncoming traffic near the Kundasang roundabout, has since gone viral on social media.

Woman dies after hitting fallen metal bar, crashing motorcycle in Limbang
Paramedics from Limbang Hospital attending to the victim at the scene. MIRI (July 13): A 43-year-old woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident at Kilometre 3, Jalan Pandaruan in Limbang at around 9am today. Limbang police chief Supt Parum Niot said the victim, identified as Faridah Adek, succumbed to her injuries while being rushed to Limbang Hospital for treatment. 'The incident involved a motorcycle ridden by the victim and her husband, each on separate machines, travelling from Kampung Pahlawan towards Limbang town. 'The victim was riding behind her husband when she failed to avoid a metal bar which was lying across the road,' he said in a statement today. Parum said the metal bar is believed to have fallen onto the road following an earlier accident involving an excavator operating by the roadside. 'The victim's husband managed to swerve and avoid the obstruction, but Faridah, who was following closely behind, was unable to react in time. She collided with the bar and veered into the opposite lane,' he added. Faridah sustained serious injuries and was transported to Limbang Hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead en route. Motorcyclist killed, pillion rider hurt in Mersing crash
MERSING: A 24-year-old motorcyclist was killed, while her pillion rider was injured, after their vehicle hit a car and skidded into a drain here on Sunday (July 13). Mersing Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Shamsuri Shafai said they received a distress call at 12.20am about the incident at Jalan Ismail, in front of Taman Laut Mersing. 'A total of eight firemen and two fire engines were deployed to the scene, located about 1km away, to carry out rescue operations. 'The accident involved a motorcycle that skidded into a drain. 'A woman was found dead at the scene, while a 23-year-old woman sustained injuries and was (taken to the hospital) for treatment,' he said in a statement. Shamsuri added that the victim's body was handed over to the police for further action. When contacted, Mersing OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani confirmed the incident. 'Preliminary investigations found that the motorcycle was attempting to overtake a car that was turning right into a junction but failed, hitting the rear of the vehicle before skidding off the road. 'The victim suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the pillion rider sustained injuries to the left thigh and is receiving treatment at Hospital Mersing. "The 51-year-old car driver was uninjured,' he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
