Soap fans left fuming over 'stupid' change as episodes slashed from schedules
British soap fans have been left furious after a sweeping scheduling shake-up has wiped their favourite shows from TV listings this week.
Viewers hoping to settle in for their usual dose of drama from Emmerdale, Coronation Street and EastEnders have been met with disappointment, as all three major soaps have been pulled from the schedules tonight and tomorrow due to a summer of sporting action.
Emmerdale, which normally airs an hour-long episode on Thursdays, and EastEnders, which typically treats fans to a 30-minute trip to Albert Square, have both vanished from last night's schedule.
Meanwhile, Coronation Street, which doesn't usually air on Thursdays, will also be missing from screens tonight, leaving fans with an unusually long wait for their next visit to Weatherfield.
The disruption has sparked outrage among devoted soap viewers, many of whom have taken to social media to vent their frustrations. One angry fan fumed: "Why have we no Emmerdale or Corrie, cause women's football on ITV? Why can't the football move to ITV2 or ITVX? Stupid planning. The soaps must have much higher viewers than women's football, a lot of people unhappy."
Another ranted: "This is actually a full-on joke. It's about time ITV came up with a solution to suit all!! Some of us rely on soaps for routine and they are the only happy part of our day! YOU HAVE ITVX AND SEVERAL OTHER CHANNELS! Sort it out ITV!!"
A third viewer added: "This annoys me so much. I hate soap schedule changes due to football. Watching soaps at night makes my nights better as it gives me escapism from my daily life."
The changes come as the BBC and ITV juggle coverage of both Wimbledon and the Women's Euros, leaving little room in prime-time schedules for regular soap broadcasts.
Tonight, ITV will broadcast live coverage from Sweden as Portugal take on Spain, while Friday will see Germany face off against Poland, forcing Coronation Street off air once again.
EastEnders fans were treated to double episodes earlier in the week, with two back-to-back episodes airing on both Monday and Tuesday.
While many rushed to iPlayer to watch the drama early, others found themselves having to switch over to BBC Two to catch their fix at the usual 7pm slot.
Unfortunately for fans, the disruption isn't over yet. EastEnders won't be back on air until next Wednesday, although viewers can look forward to another double bill once the soap returns. Emmerdale fans will have a slightly shorter wait, as the show is set to return at 7.30pm next Tuesday (July 8).
However, Coronation Street fans face an even longer gap, as both the usual Monday and Wednesday episodes will also be cancelled next week due to further football coverage. Instead, Weatherfield drama will resume on Thursday at the later time of 9pm.

Future of fan-favourite Coronation Street star is revealed after they went 'missing for months' amid ITV cast cull
A Coronation Street star that has been 'missing' from the show for months has signed a brand new contract with ITV bosses. The actor, who has starred on the long-running soap for a whopping 17 years now, has been rarely seen on screen lately. However, Mikey North - who plays Gary Windass - recently returned with a major storyline as he fights for his life in hospital. His future on the Weatherfield cobbles has now been confirmed, with insiders on the street telling The Sun Mikey has signed a fresh deal to stay in the role. They said: 'Mikey loves working at Coronation Street and bosses love having him so it was a no brainer for him to sign for another year recently. 'Gary's got a huge year coming up and it's all just kicked off on-screen and it's just the beginning. 'There's going to be a lot of Mikey on screens in the coming months.' MailOnline has contacted reps for Mikey and Coronation Street. The 38-year-old actor first arrived on screens back in 2008 when he was introduced to viewers along with the wider Windass family. Offscreen, the actor keeps a private life, though he's married to actress Rachel Isherwood who is known for her work in Captain America: The First Avenger. The couple wed in 2016 and have two children together. Before Mikey's disappearance from Coronation Street fans had watched his character have a furious argument with his partner Maria. Lou had set him up to get back at Maria, framing him for a night of passion that resulted in the heated exchange. He had stormed out of the flat and apparently went to stay with his mother Anna Windass, but never returned. Maria then started to worry when Gary failed to return home after his Anna's house. Corrie fans have since learnt Gary is fighting for his life in a coma in hospital after being brutally attacked. A mysterious woman is also by his bedside, referring to him as his wife, while calling him Chesney. Maria and the rest of the residents on the cobbles are unaware of Gary's condition because of the criminal giving the false name to medics. Speaking about the storyline, Samia, who plays Maria, said: 'Maria and Gary are going through a bit of a rough patch at the minute and initially, she's upset that he's left but doesn't think too much into it. 'As soon as Gary misses Liam's birthday, she has a gut feeling that something isn't right and fears something awful might have happened to him. 'Maria's mind is spiralling but she doesn't stop for a second to think who actually attacked Gary. 'She's aware he has a lot of enemies from over the years who could have potentially wanted to take revenge on him.' Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV1 and ITVX.

Noel Gallagher's daughter gives 5-word verdict on Oasis gig after mum walks out
Anais Gallagher's dad, Noel Gallagher and his younger brother, Liam, performed on stage for the first time together in 16 years last night at Cardiff's Principality Stadium Noel Gallagher's daughter, Anais, has given a five-word review of her dad's epic Oasis reunion gig, which brought the house down in Cardiff last night. Liam Gallagher, 52, and his older brother, Noel, 58, performed on stage together for the first time in 16 years in the Welsh capital and didn't disappoint their legion of loyal fans, who were lucky enough to have bagged a ticket. Among them was proud daughter Anais, who shared a snap of herself, holding a pint, sporting an Oasis shirt as she watched her dad and uncle perform on stage. Giving a review of the special night, Anais, 25, captioned the snap: "It's good to be back." Oasis LIVE: First review as Liam and Noel Gallagher kick off 2025 tour in Cardiff Responding to her post, many fans agreed as one replied, saying: "It was amazing, epic, hope you enjoyed it" while another simply declared: "EPIC!" Anais' mum Meg Mathews, who was married to Noel from 1997 until 2001, was also in the audience - but was seen walking out of the reunion gig ahead of the band playing Wonderwall. The song may be a difficult listen to Meg, who Noel originally claimed inspired the song. A string of famous faces were spotted in the crowd as Oasis reunited in a comeback tour, which has been on the top of fans' wish lists for more than a decade. The band were seen walking onto the stage with their song 'F**king in the Bushes' before they then started belting out 'Hello'. The crowd welcomed them with cheers at the sold out gig, which kicks off a global tour for the Don't Look Back In Anger stars. In the audience was the likes of EastEnders star Danny Dyer as well as Line Of Duty actress Vicky McClure. Vernon Kay also posed for pictures outside the Principality Stadium. "Hey, beautiful people, it's been too long," Liam told the giddy crowd, which also included the likes of Glastonbury founder, Emily Eavis. Liam thanked the 70,000 fans who attended Oasis ' first reunion gig in Cardiff for 'putting up with them over the years'. The singer and his brother Noel have exchanged a bitter war of words for 16 years, with fans giving up on the idea that Oasis would reunite for another tour. However, they shocked the world when they announced last year that they would be embarking on an epic global tour. Cardiff was blessed with the very first gig on Friday night, with the brothers holding hands and raising them to the sky as they walked out onto the stage. The likes of Champagne Supernova, Supersonic and Slide Away were performed, with Noel pausing for a few bars while singing Half The World Away to take in the sensational scenes in front of him. After Oasis the stage at the end of the night, fans stomped and cheered as they demanded an encore. The band then returned to sing The Masterplan, Don't Look Back In Anger and Wonderwall before Liam thanked fans for supporting them. Still reeling from the last two and half hours on stage, he said: "Thank you, beautiful people. This is it. Nice one for putting up with us over the years. We are hard work, we get it."

Speaking exclusively to The Sun's TV Mag, she said: 'Oh, it's no secret - I have fillers, I have Botox, facials…. I do all of it., 'I'm really open about it. I don't think there's anything worse than someone promoting a cream saying: 'Buy this mega-bucks cream and your face will be as smooth as mine.' 'I'm like: 'Yeah, whatever.' So there's no cream - well, there is, but there are other things on top. 'I'm still marking my 50th. I've never really done birthday celebrations and I didn't want a big party because I'm not that kind of person. 'So I did lots of little things, and I'm still doing lots of little things. It's been lovely. I just feel like 50 is just going to get better and better and better. 'At 40, I had a massive crisis. I didn't like that at all. But turning 50 has really changed my mindset. I'm just thinking: 'I'm just going to hold things lightly.' 'If someone says something that's upsetting, I'm going to choose not to be upset. I'm just letting it wash over me and focus on what actually matters, you know, and that's the people around you, and those kinds of things. So far, so good.' Sally's character Abi is currently going through a crisis of her own, having her head turned by brother-in-law Carl Webster with the pair set to have a passionate affair. 'Your readers will say: 'Stay with Kevin!'' smiles Sally, who was previously best known for playing Kelly Maguire in comedy-drama Shameless. Soap star Sally Carman strips down to swimsuit on holiday with Coronation Street co-star 'He's given her a life and took a chance on her, so it's no wonder everyone's like: 'Don't you dare cheat on Kevin!' 'I mean, I feel the same! Abi loves Kevin, but Carl has awakened her feelings. She's been desperately trying to fight it because she knows what she's got to lose. 'In real life, Abi wouldn't be a friend of mine. I do like her, I think she's got great qualities - she's got a huge heart - but she's also a handful. 'And because she's emotionally immature, she gets very defensive, very upset, very hurt. I wouldn't want that in my life.' Sally has also confirmed that she wants to stay on the cobbles for as long as bosses will have her. Real-life soap couples Soaps are renowned for their sweet and scandalous romances – but it's not just in scripted storylines where love is blossoming. A number of our favourite small-screen actors have fallen for co-stars and soapland rivals when the cameras have stopped rolling. Max Parker and Kris Mochrie Despite playing brothers Luke and Lee Posner on Emmerdale, the pair never actually shared any scenes together. But the pair still fell in love after meeting on set. Max and Kris got together in 2020, moving in together later than same year and got engaged in 2022. In a sweet Instagram post, the couple confirmed they're planning a 2025 wedding. Beth Cordingly and Ian Kelsey Beth, who plays Ruby Fox-Miligan, announced her love for her co-star Ian Kelsey, who played Dean Glover, shortly after she joined Emmerdale at the beginning of 2024. 'I am very in love with Ian and very happy. I think it really does work him being an actor too. He has been so fantastic," she gushed. Laura Norton and Mark Jordan Kerry Wyatt and Daz Eden actors Laura and Mark met on the set of Emmerdale in 2014. The couple, who got engaged in 2018, told Loose Women they spent a long time deciding whether they should "just stay as friends." Although it seems they were meant to be and the pair now share two children together. Zoe Henry and Jeff Hordley Emmerdale favourites Zoe and Jeff, who play Rhonda Goskirk and Cain Dingle met at drama college in 1994 and have been together ever since. While working together might be too much for some couples, that's definitely not the case for Zoe and Jeff. Zoe previously told The Sun: "Working on the same show as Jeff also helps because if one of us is having a bad day then the other will completely understand." Lesley Dunlop and Chris Chittell Lesley and Chris are another Dales romantic success story. Unlike some of the other soap stars, the pair who play Brenda Walker and Eric Pollard, are together on and off screen, officially tying the knot in 2016. They also adore working together, but have clear home-work boundaries. "We make a point of not talking about Emmerdale when we're at home, though – that would be just too sad, wouldn't it?" Chris revealed. Sally Carman and Joe Duttine Abi Franklin and Tim Metcalfe actors Sally and Joe got together after meeting on the set of Coronation Street in 2017 and they tied the knot in July 2022. But unlike some of the Emmerdale stars, Sally and Joe prefer that their characters don't interact much. Sally previously admitted it "would be horrendous" to work on a storyline with Joe because "he's too funny." Anthony Cotton and Peter Eccleston Sean Tully may have been unlucky in love on the cobbles, but in real life Antony's met his Prince Charming. The soap star started dating long-term partner Peter in 2005, after they met when he was working as an assistant props buyer on Corrie. Jane Danson and Robert Beck Corrie favourite Jane Danson tied the knot with soap star Robert Beck in 2005. The actress, who plays Leanne Battersby, shares two children, Harry and Sam, with the former Brookside star. During their marriage, Robert has also done a stint in Weatherfield playing criminal Jimmy Dockerson. Caroline Harding and Chris Gascoyne Chris, who played pub landlord Peter Barlow, married soap star Caroline in 2002. Although she is best known as an Emmerdale star, Caroline did visit her husband at work when she did a two-episode stint as doctor on the Manchester soap in 2020. The couple share a daughter called Belle, plus two children, Pip and Freddie from Caroline's previous marriage. Nadine Mulkerrin and Rory Douglas Speed Nadine Mulkerrin, and Rory Doulas Speed are known for their Hollyoaks alter egos Cleo McQueen and Joel Dexter. The loved-up pair got engaged on a December 2018 trip to Amsterdam - just over a year after they announced they were dating. They now share two kids, Reggie and Dougie. Sophie Austin and Shayne Ward Former Hollyoaks star Sophie, whose best known for playing villain Lindsay Butterfield, was introduced to singer and ex-Corrie star Shayne through mutual friends. She gave birth to their daughter Willow in December 2016 and they welcomed a son in 2022. 'I see Corrie in my future and I'm hoping they [the show's producers] do [laughs]!' she said. 'Do you know what? If it was all to end tomorrow, I would literally be going out with the biggest thank-you, because I came in for six episodes and here I am. 'So there would be nothing but absolute gratitude. But let's hope not just yet! I'm loving it and I'm just grateful for every day.'
